Quince dupe for Patagonia Better Sweater?

Been looking at the Patagonia better sweater long enough to pull the trigger but then I see one that looks very similar on the quince site.

If you’ve used both, are they comparable? If so I don’t need to pay 2-3x just for the patch. Have enough of their pieces of outerwear that have been worth it.

Are you retiring at 65?

Without any stats for backup, lots of us are retiring early, while others can’t and will have to work beyond 65.

But are you planning for 65? What does that look like? I likely have the resources to bail early but my job is not difficult, aside from a few clownish coworkers, the pay is ok and the main draw at this point are the benefits. At 65 there will be sub-$1M to draw from and if health holds so will the lifestyle. Already have a few hobbies to focus on and enjoy two to three vacations a year. What am I missing?

Wow. This is top of mind for so so many of us. My takeaway at +380 replies currently is that what is “enough” is different for everyone. As is the case for so many things in my situation I’m prob average/median. My savings/pensions/gov’t will likely be ok, not high, not low, BUT the cost of living will only go up. So hopefully the quiet quitting to 65 will be smooth.

Pride FOMO

Every year I show up to Trans night/Friday or Saturday for the dyke March to participate/support and be part of the community. It’s been a few years since going on a Sunday just because of the crowds, so it’s another weekend in the backyard. We’re a 50-ish long term couple who are happily settled into domestic life.

But seeing all the friends and online friends’ posts from the dance parties gives legit fomo. Everyone looks like they’re having fun and experiencing joy in the community and I’d love to join in.

For next year where will I find out where and when to go?

Many slings are purses

Will put up another post with a photo of my current collection but I’m looking for an EDC sling.

In my search I’m finding that in the 3-7liter size the prevalent form factor looks like a traditional purse. After this it’s versions of outdoorsy pod, mini messenger bag, fanny pack, boxy tech gear bag/camera case.

The brand that speaks to me currently is bellroy. Will have to go to the store to inspect if they have the soft hand feel and minimalism that make them look more like a piece of clothing. With durability of course.

In your travels have you come across another brand that has its own look and feel/form factor?

Laser treatments for sun spots/hyperpigmentation

There seems to be no credible sources for a recommendation on where to get a treatment.

I’m getting a lot of ads on my algo and not lots of online reviews so it’s been hard to find a decent recommendation from real people. Help!

People behave badly all over

Came back from my workout to see the locker neighbor had vacated but couldn’t be bothered to toss his used towels in the laundry bag that was just outside the shot.

Good thing I didn’t have to make a Costco trip after to see abandoned carts blocking usable parking spots.

Supermarket Fruit trays: thrifty or splurge?

Generally, foods that are prepared for convenience are charged a premium for extra work, which normally could be done by oneself.

But I do enjoy the variety of fruits in the trays available at the supermarket. Although the unit cost of buying fruit, washing it and cutting are a fraction my argument is that buying the assortment will result in lots of leftovers which will end up getting tossed. And waste has a cost.

Having fruit at the ready will encourage eating it. Which is never a bad thing.

Edit: there’s only two of us and I’m thinking about cutting up just one melon and most of it stays in the fridge. Then gets thrown out. As a frugal person I still consider the value in buying a reasonable portion in these platters, the variety, that will get all eaten.

Edit 2: there’s enough people here who have also concluded paying for the convenience of prepared food that gets eaten is the frugal option compared to buying too much and throwing most of it away. Had to ask the question since I’ve been trained to do the work myself when I can. I guess all the people whose instinct is to reply with “it’s cheaper to make at home” can only see the $ value. This forum reminds some of us the difference between cheap and frugal.

Rains bags

The brand is on fbm quite a bit with bags and totes. The designs look good but the material is vinyl/PU, which gets sticky and absorbs odours easily. People still buy this stuff?!

Avocados

Loves me my avocado on toast…but at home. I’m genX and the thought of paying +$10 at a restaurant for something that can be executed by myself is weird. I’m happy to pay for food that is produced with special ingredients or techniques only from a commercial kitchen.

Anywho, I notice when avocados go on sale, which is when I buy them, the LCL stores tend to carry bags of five and not six. Is this correct? Food Basics and Freshco I know stock sixes. These are Toronto stores.

In my nightly scroll of streaming tv choices I noticed there are some actors who pop up and there’s an automatic save for later and they’re just compelling to watch . Others easy get scrolled past. It could be their personal lives are problematic or they’re just not very good actors who are painful to watch. Or both.

Examples:

Auto YES: Chris Evans, Jason Statham

HELLS NAH NEVER EVER: Mark walberg Chris Pratt gal gadot Will smith

Who are yours?
