Whatever happened to this guy?

He used to be a coliseum staple. You could spot him and Pat Dowd (Sign Guy) religiously. But ever since the team moved to Brooklyn, this guy vanished without a trace. Does anyone know what happened to him? Why did he ditch the jersey and the iconic gold hair?

My "Rejected" Designs

These are the 5 designs I submitted that will never see the light of day now. I was really hoping for a cream base jersey. Obviously I was pushing for a lighthouse logo. And orange since its my favorite color and we haven't had an orange jersey in 20 years. Only one left in the official vote I like is the orange lighthouse one.

Best islander you've met

Little bit of a change of pace here. What was a time when you met a current player or alumni that stood out to you? I've been fortunate enough to have met many players and alumni over the past 20 years. I have 2 in particular that stand out.

  1. 2013 Draft Party, got a chance to meet Bobby Nystrom, Matt Martin, Matt Carkner, Eric Boulton, and Ryan Strome. And out of all of them, Martin was the nicest one. I asked him to sign my yearbook which he did and without asking gave me 4 autograph cards and snapped a photo with me. Most super chill, down to earth, humble celebrity I've met to date, you would've never known he was a enforcer. Blew my mind that day and forever grateful I met him. Carkner and Nystrom were very nice too, also got photos with them.

  2. Last year I decided to try my luck and try to get a few autographs from the guys after practice as they were leaving. Given that Lou was gone and the team now had a breath of fresh air, I figured I'd take my chance. And boy did it pay off. Wound up getting 12 autographs that day. But the ones that stood out to me were Henieman, Sorokin, Romanov, Maclean, and Varlamov. And just as I was getting ready to leave, Schaefer drove past and I figured I missed my shot. But then he stopped and backed up and asked if I wanted his autograph. I was so excited I asked him to sign my foam finger from the draft party, using my yearbook to lean on. And then without me asking, he asked if I wanted another one. I said sure of course! So he signed my yearbook cover as well.

Having moments like that are why I've remained a fan all these years, I'd love to hear other stories.

Oh 1 more bonus story: I got to meet Shawn Bates at last year's draft party. I still have my 20 year old yearbook from my 1st season and I asked him to sign his photo. He had a good chuckle and was flattered to sign it.

When should I (28M) tell my crush of 9 years (30F) that I like her?

Long story, please bear with me. TL:DR at bottom

I'm a 28 yo M and she's a 30 yo F. I have known her since 2017 when we met in college, same major. I knew right there that she was the one. Everything about her stood out to me and seemed to be an ideal match. Only problem was she had a BF at the time so I couldn't say anything. She knew I had a crush on her but never said anything about moving on or not being interested, she was ok with it. She was in a toxic relationship at the time. He was in the air force and not around often. Now I am not bashing anyone at all in the armed forces, I hold the upmost respect. But he was not nice to her and definitely displayed some kind of abuse towards her as well as cheating. Yet she stayed with him for a number of years. I had kept holding out some hope that she would leave him. We both graduated and went our own ways in life but still kept in touch. Very good friends. We even currently have a 2 year snapchat streak. After awhile that hope faded and I moved on and started seeing someone else for a brief period of time, yet I still held out a little bit of hope. Eventually, she broke up with him 4 years ago and my other relationship had just ended. I thought maybe I had a chance. However she had just met this other guy right that I just assumed was a friend. I figured I just had to wait a bit before I could say anything. A couple months went by. I had everything planned out and before I could do so, she started officially dating the other guy. I heard nothing but good things about this guy so I thought that she had found her man. It got serious, they moved in together, they started planning their life together. I was both happy and torn at the same time, knowing I missed out on my only chance. Yet I still held on to that hope. Then this past Christmas/new years, she broke up with him. She didn't want to talk about it with me but from what I've gathered, there might've been some type of abuse among other issues. She was devastated, and said she needed to heal and self reflect. I have been very supportive of her and been by her side this whole time. She has reiterated several times (not specific to me, just in general) that she is not ready to date again, and wants to heal and find herself again.

I know I'm probably not going to get another chance to confess to her. Yet I want to let her know how much she means to me and how much I like her. And that brings us to now, what do I do? Do I finally come forward and just tell her? Or should I continue to wait until she's ready? If anyone has any advice and/or ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. I know I'm never gonna find anyone like her again and at least want her to know that I truly genuinely care about her and would do anything for her. I really don't want to go my whole life without telling her.

TL:DR: I've had a crush on her for 9 years but never told her b/c she's either been a relationship or healing/reflecting before dating again. When should I tell her?

I've waited 9 years to tell my crush how I feel about her. When should I go through with it?

What's up with the remaining UFAs?

Now I know this is a very weak FA class compared to previous years. But what's up with the remaining "big" names not having any deals in a week into FA? Mantha being the top winger available still not signed. Laine still available, a week after the rumor that the isles were interested. Michael Bunting and Tolvanen are still hanging around. Even older vets like Tarasenko and Patrick Kane are still unsigned? Is that something we could benefit from? The longer these guys remain unsigned, the cheaper we can get them? Maybe not Kane or Tarasenko but any of the other mentioned guys would be a welcomed addition to the team. Someone would have to go the other way 1st before we can get one of these guys. (ie Palat buyout or trading Duclair/Engvall)

Treated myself

Been awhile since I had the mozzarella sticks. Tasted a lot different than I how I remembered them

Bobby Brink anyone?

Last week I proposed the same question about Mavrik Bourque as an RFA target that most people seemed to be on board with. Yesterday we saw Bobby Brink not get a QO from Minnesota making him a UFA. Is that someone Darche should pursue in FA? Only 24 years old.

Mavrik Bourque anyone?

With most of the big names off the trade market and the only ones left would cost us a kings ransom (Robertson, Larkin) would you take a swing at Mavrik Bourque? He is an RFA and many believe a team could offer sheet him this summer. He's only 24 years old, coming off a 20 goal, 41 point season season. Dallas is in cap hell at the moment with them trying to clear cap for Robertson and the new rumor that Larkin wants to go to Dallas. That could make Bourque a cap casualty. We've got a nice young core developing, why not add another one? Realistically he shouldn't cost that much either on a bridge deal.

Potential buyout candidates?

Just curious, now that we're officially in the off-season, the buyout window period opens tomorrow. Any chance someone gets bought out? And if so, who do you think is most likely to be bought out?

No Draft Party?

I was just thinking about this the other day, are they not having a draft party this year? If not, any reason why? Would be crazy not to especially after last year's turnout

Loaded Jalapeño Whopper

Originally stopped in for the Mandalorian Whopper which unfortunately they've stopped selling at my location. So I decided to try this one and as someone who is not big on jalapeños, I was blown away! They've really been hitting their stride as of late.

Huge Star Wars fan, went to try these today. Whopper is your standard affair but the pickle chips were dynamite. And I was pleasantly surprised with the ranch cheddar tots!
