2020 S1000RR Coil Pack Replacement

2020 S1000RR Coil Pack Replacement

Hey y'all, frequent poster of this sub at this point with the problems my 2020 s1000rr has. So just confirmed that one of the coil packs have gone bad and my bike is misfiring. Do any of y'all have any idea on how difficult it is to replace on my own?

I do basic maintenance like oil changes, chain maintenance, etc. on my bike but the most mechanically difficult thing I've personally done on a bike was replace the clutch plates on my old R7. Just wondering how challenging it is to replace all 4 coilpacks on my own.

A nearby shop is quoting me around 4 hours of labor, around $500 in labor pretty much, thanks. I also found some OEM coil packs on ebay, just wondering if these are the right ones. I believe the ones I'm supposed to purchase are the ones with the 7924318-01 parts number. Thank you.

Clutch cable free play advice

Just wondering if anyone can help me with the clutch cable play on my k67. Thanks, also when I loosen the locking screw on the clutch cable, the adjusting screw doesn’t move at all.

Feels super boggy at idle/2k rpms

Hey y’all, got a 2020 s1k, I just bought it used maybe 400 miles ago. It’s got a full akro system but the previous owner didn’t specify where the ECU got flashed but he said it did get flashed.

What I’m wondering is today out of nowhere the bike started to feel super boggy and choppy at idle and lower rpm’s in 1st gear. Now I know that a liter bike at lower rpm’s in 1st gear is natural choppy but this feels way worse.

Idle it sounds terrible around 2k rpm’s, and I literally keep stalling the bike when I literally never did before today. Not too sure what’s going on, but I’m thinking maybe I just send the ECU in for a reflash by Bauce tune.

Looking for any advice or suggestions, thanks.

Shifting in lower gears feels off?

Hey y’all, I have a 2020 s1000rr and I’ve had it for around a month now. Haven’t put too much seat time on it yet, around 250 miles, but I find shifting in lower gears feels off.

First off, neutral is almost impossible to find for me at a stop, but I’ve talked to people and seems like it’s just a bit hard to find on these. But whenever I rev match from 2nd to 1st, I always find neutral, and whenever I pull the clutch back in to shift down to 1st from neutral the clutch cable literally feels like snapping.

Not too sure if I’m the problem but I’ve never had a problem on my zx6r or my r7 prior to that. Checked the clutch cable slack too and looks fine according to manual specs.

My girlfriend is chronically late

Hey there, just a rant on my girlfriend and her terrible sense of urgency. I’ve (24M) been with my girlfriend (23F) for 4 years and almost every time we see each other she’s late. I’m not talking 10-15 mins late, I’m talking 30 mins to hours late. It grinds my gears so bad because I’m constantly thinking about time.

For example, literally as I’m writing this, we had plans to go eat lunch with my mom, my brother and his girlfriend. I specifically told her to come to my apartment at 12pm. I wake up at 9am and she’s been up since 7:30am. I text her at 11am because she’s an hour and a half away by train already knowing she’ll be late. She ends up leaving her house at 12pm. She’s going to be an entire hour and 40 minutes late.

This is for almost everything, I had a date planned on Valentine’s Day in the most booked out city in the country. She arrives 30 mins late effectively ruining my plans, and she starts being sad that I’m upset. Great, now the entire days ruined and I have to apologize. It’s literally every single time.

Meanwhile I’m over here constantly thinking about time, thinking we have 10 minutes for this, and the commute will take 25 minutes, and the movies in 3 hours. She’s just not all there mentally ever when it comes to stuff like this and it’s unbelievably frustrating.

And I talked to her about this and all she ever says is she’s sorry and something came up to make her late. But nothing ever changes. Like today, we SPECIFICALLY BOTH said 12pm today. But lo and behold, her father needed help with something that makes her late an hour and a half. Shes been up since 7:30am. To her credit she lives an hour and a half by train and she usually comes over to me because I live alone and there’s more things to do here, etc. But this pattern is so concerning for me, what if things never change? It just feels like a complete lack of respect for MY time and everyone else around her. But she adamantly says that’s not the case and that there’s always just something going on.

The crazy thing is though, when we don’t see each other, that shit never happens. Either ways, I’m sick of it and it puts me in a terrible mood every time we see each other.

Motorcycle shop took my bike for a joyride without my consent or knowledge

Hey there, so I took my bike to a shop local to me. I went in to them to change a lowering link on my bike for the OEM one. They quoted me 45 minutes to 1 hour of labor but said they’ll tell me it’s ready in a few hours. They call me at 5pm that it’s ready for pickup and they charge me 2 hours of labor.

What really matters to me is that I check their instagram page and I notice on their story that they took my s1k for a joy ride, going over the speed limit 90mph that they didn’t tell me about. Now I’m wondering if they overcharged me for the labor because they took my bike out.

But it’s mainly the fact that they just took my bike out for a ride without my consent or knowledge. Am I wrong to feel upset over this? This job wasn’t something that needed to be ridden 90 mph to check if everything was okay.

EDIT:
It’s clearly my bike from the POV video they posted with identifiable modifications. They also posted a video of my bike from multiple angles after showing the same identifiable modifications. These were also uploaded the day after they worked on my bike. I screen recorded the video on my phone and will also download the story as well.

If you want to see the video go on instagram @brooklyn_speed, it should still be on their story.

From these responses it seems sentiment is split. Most stating that what the shop did was unacceptable and to ask for the labor cost back at the least, if not legal action. While some say that it’s completely normal what they did and I’m overreacting or that there’s no cause for my concern. I’ll talk to them tomorrow and go from there.

SECOND EDIT:
It’s clear that the shop had every right to test ride my bike to make sure that everything was okay, completely understandable. My problem comes with the fact that the tech who drove it rode at almost 3x the speed limit of the bridge the video was taken from. This wasn’t a quick ride around the block either, and if this is what they decided the post, how else did they ride it that wasn’t shown. My city is littered with cops and speed cameras everywhere, if this was down a long stretch of open highway, sure maybe I would be less upset. I also have no clue why my bikes capabilities change anything, if it was a 300cc would that change anything in the situation? No, it would not.

And I am NOT pursuing legal action against the shop for everyone assuming so. This entire post wasn’t whether to gauge if I had a plausible case against them in court, just to see if this is something sensible to be upset against. I sent the shop/owner an email and at no point will I be contacting any legal counsel.

Mechanic shop took my s1000rr for a ride without my knowledge or consent

Service reminder notification

Hey y’all, have a service due reminder on my s1k. Just got fluid flush service at a shop but they’re charging me $150 to get rid of the code. Dealerships asking $115, should I just buy the OBD scanner and moto scan app for the future? Or do yall have any suggestions, thanks.

Help with lowered bike

Hey, just picked up this 2020 s1k, but it’s been lowered in the back with a Brock’s adjustable link kit, and the front forks are pushed up through the triple clamp as well. I’m wondering if anyone has advice on whether I’d be able to do return the bike back to stock height myself, or to just take it to a shop, thanks.

New to me s1000rr

Just picked her up, can’t stop looking at her. So stoked, just a few questions if yall don’t mind me asking.

The bike was lowered in the rear and in the front forks, would any of y’all recommend I try to return the bike back to stock height myself, or should I just bring it to a shop. Also, the bike has a full akro system but has an ECU flash by a random shop, and honestly the throttle feels clunky. I know BT and 2WDW are some credible tuners but what would you recommend?

Can’t believe I finally have my dream bike, really excited to join yall!

Undoing lowering link

Hey yall, planning on buying a 2020 s1k. Only real reservation I have is the fact that it’s lowered in the rear and in the front. How easy of a job is it to return the bikes height back to stock? And which exact OEM link part do I need? Thanks!

Vacation with my family makes me regress to a sad upset teenager

Dinner: lobster rolls that cost an absurd amount but checked a mark on my to do list

I hate going on vacation with my family. I’m a first generation immigrant child and I’m reminded of that every time we go on vacation. Every time we go on vacation my parents and brother drive me insane. I literally regress to being a pubescent and hormonal teenager. I’m 24 now and live alone and make a pretty decent living, but every time I’m dragged back near them I want to rip my fucking hair out.

My heritage and background puts an emphasis on me being the first born son. As a result I’ve grown up with ridiculous standards to live up to compared to my brother. Excel in school, do every extracurricular under the sun, be in shape and lead by example. I dropped out of college twice because I had such terrible depression and was too afraid to be medicated because my parents never made me feel like I was allowed to be vulnerable. Meanwhile my brothers just graduated and is on track to get his masters and his CPA and follow in my fathers steps. I specifically remember that I wasn’t doing well and my mother immediately says “imagine what your brother thinks of you.”

Every year, without fail even though I know I’ll hate being on vacation with them, I’ll go. Whether it be the complete lack of autonomy, the rigid schedules, or the constant jabs to me, I end up going. I’ll always be grateful to my parents and I go on these not even for my own enjoyment, I just go to take pictures because I know my parents enjoy it. They’ll constantly take jabs and make snide marks at my education, my job, my interests, my hobbies, while they adore my brother. They ask him about his girlfriend, his life, his interests. Meanwhile I’m just the person who has to be at the tail end of a lecture or of someone venting.

I hate it so much that I get terrible self esteem issues. It’s why I hate picking up their calls or responding to their text messages. It’s why I regret going back to their house on the way there. Every time I walk through those doors I’m hit with an impending sense of anxiety that I feel like I can throw up.

I love my brother too but we’re not close at all. Our car rides are strained and quiet. Our conversations read like coworkers then siblings. He’s built an impenetrable wall around himself that any advance from myself feels impossible. If he ever needs something I’ll always be there for him, but I know he wouldn’t do the same. And when I’m in situations like this I grow extremely envious of him. I can tell he has no respect for me, and it hurts like a knife to my chest.

TLDR; I love my family until I’m with them.

Buying used s1k with lien

Hey there, so I'm heavily considering buying this used bike off of my friend. So the story goes my friend originally bought a 2024 s1000rr from the original owner upstate. He paid $24,000 for the bike knowing it had a lien on it. He paid the original owner expecting the lien release within 2 weeks, the original owner stating that he'd pay off the balance immediately.

My friend got the title transferred over to him (he didn't fill out the buyer's parts), but over the next few weeks the original owner would slowly start ghosting him. It's been about 9 months now and he's willing to sell the bike to me for $13,000 knowing that he took an immense hit.

Some pros are that he has the title in hand (albiet it has a lien on it) signed over from the buyer. The bike is still under BMW warranty and is very mint and has a very nice and tasteful assortment of mods. It has the bill of sale from the original owner to my friend, and BMW financial services is the real lienholder. It's also assumed that the original owner is indeed paying off the lien monthly, he just did not pay off the lump sum originally when my friend paid him.

Cons are that the original owner is a douche bag and ghosted my friend and I'm potentially never going to speak to him. I know that buying bikes with liens in situations like this are immediate red flag walk away stituations but still want to know your opinions, thanks.

Perfect for me zx6r

I very recently bought a 2020 zx6r and personally did not like how I bought it. It had underglow LED’s, candy red powder coated wheels, and a massive tank dent.

Over the course of the past 3 weeks I’ve fully made this bike feel perfect to me. Powder coated the wheels gloss black again, got an ECU flash by 2WDW, and added some various cosmetic mods including carbon fiber bits from motocomposites and a carbon fiber tank cover to hide the dent.

Really love where the bike sits right now, planning on getting engine covers and new tires soon, but finally at the point where the bike feels mine.

Ninja tank decal

Hey yall, so I had a surface rusted dent that was under some tank grips that the previous owner did NOT make aware of so I sanded, body fillered, and painted over that side, but in the process I had to sand down the ninja decal on that side so the paint and top coat could be blended in. Was just wondering if there’s anyway to take the decal off on the other side to make it match. Thanks.
