No-Tipping sign

No-Tipping sign

At a COSTCO-type store in the Philippines. The workers will help you carry your purchases to your car and help you load. To all other businesses out there demanding tips; take the hint. Take pride in providing a service and stop begging.

Tip in advance?

Using an app to find a car (like Uber) in the Philippines. It is asking for a tip before a driver even accepts! I never clicked it, and guess what; no driver accepted and the order was cancelled. They should change tip to “bribe”.

Cemetery….of Death!

Saw this at an amusement park in Vietnam. Not exactly Engrish, just a funny misuse of words. And “The Eyecatcher”?

5% service fee in lieu of a tip? Ok

Entire meal at a French restaurant in Vietnam cost $172 USD. Service fee was $7.50. I asked if I should leave a tip and the guide said “no no! included!” um….ok.

Tips for hourly desk clerks

Well, here’s a new one. I’m on vacation in the Philippines and staying at a (not-cheap) hotel at a popular beach destination. When checking in, this large tip-box was sitting prominently between us. I understand some people “work for tips”, but hourly workers at the front desk?

Here’s a new one

I know tipping hotel staff has been accepted, but I’ve never seen it in my “check out” page online.

Asking for a tip before service

Here’s a new one. An old car of mine (rebuilding) needed a jump start, so I called the Insurance company which offers free roadside assistance. Guy drives out and jump starts the battery; easy. Bro sends me a text asking for a tip before he even arrives. For a service I pay for.

Shoutout to Stanley Steemer!

I had Stanley Steemer come by this morning our carpets, he did a good job and was friendly, and when he was done, he came up to me with the iPad, showed me the amount, and (as usual) the tip screen came up, and he himself clicked it away (no tip), and asked me to sign.

I did so, but out of curiosity ask him why he hit the no tip button, kind of joking. “did you think you didn’t deserve a tip? Ha ha” and he replied seriously “I hate that bs. The company put it there. I get paid by the job, I don’t work for tips.”

I wanted to hug him for being one of us. He reminded me of Hank Hill.

What happened to MAGA guy on Woodman?

There’s a house up on Woodmen near Rangewood, used to have a ton of Trump flags flying. Last few months, I drove by I haven’t seen any….did he have to sell them to buy gas or buy groceries?

Tipping at places the family runs and works at?

Of course, I am all for ending tipping, but how do you all feel about smaller places that are owned by (normally) immigrant families, in which the entire family (or extended family) are working? The mother in the kitchen, the daughter waiting the tables, etc. I go to one place where the owner himself works the tables! I love the family, the food is awesome, no complaints, but it seems silly to me to tip the owner of the business, or even his family members!

In my view, the argument of "but the server is a low-paid college student/single mother" is out the window. All the money the place earns goes to the owner and his family.

We also go to another awesome little Vietnamese restaurant where only the older mother works in the kitchen and the middle-aged daughter works the counter. All the money goes to both of them already! I would literally be tipping the owner!

24-72 hours?

Hi, just signed up and it has been about 6 hrs now, line still “activating”. And just now, at 6pm, I get this email; “there’s a delay in the transfer process”. Verizon already disconnected me and I am showing SOS. Is this common?

Add another network?

Hi, thinking of signing up, but when doing so, I was asked if I wanted to add another network for more money? I’m totally new here, so I didn’t understand. I thought US mobile switched between carriers? Is there an FAQ I can read?

Drain plug used to drain water hose

It looks like that one robot in Futurama that is always stabbing people. Or just set a tweaker robot.
