TIL Points are practically useless now.

Hadn’t been to McDonald’s for a couple of months, was driving the other day so decided to grab and go a McChicken and free medium fries.

Then checked my points to see if they were going to expire, and that’s when I noticed: points are basically useless now.

I used to routinely spend 1500 points for a free McChicken, which in my area was about 2.5-2.79. But now there’s no point, no pun intended. A McChicken is now $2 and they’ve raised the cost to 2000 points. Looking at the rest of the catalog is equally disappointing.

Why would I spend 2000 points for something that’s $2, or 3000 points for something that’s $1 (with daily or weekly deal in app). It makes zero sense.

Edit: the only real upside is I can now get a $2 Mcchicken and use a coupon deal for another item for $1-2 at the same time. But still need to accumulate a lot more points to get something decent.

Well it finally happened

Waited 9 days for my video interview date, TA confirmed everything with the time/date and Zoom link. Prepped for about 2-3 hours, was very excited to share my story and talk to them about the position. Showed up a few minutes early, only to see nobody ever join.

Gotta say this is even a first for me. Still waiting for an email response. Not assuming the worst but wow.

15A toaster on 20A breaker question

I bought a new 1800W (15A) toaster oven and installed it the other day. Tested it, made toast on the main setting no problem.

2nd day did same thing, but it threw the breaker. Reset it, threw the breaker 2 more times. Unplugged anything else on the same circuit (3 outlets). Still threw the breaker. Didn’t have more time to mess with it so I reset it and went off to do other things.

3rd day same thing happening, unplugged everything else on the breaker and verified it’s 20A and the toaster oven is running max 1800W / 15A. Messed with the toaster some more after resetting. It’s only doing it on a few of the higher settings, but not on any of the medium settings.

House was built in 2020. Hard to know what else to try other than not running the toaster on High, even all by itself.

Anything else I can try? Can’t imagine it’s a bad breaker but maybe 🤔

Movie theatre - thoughts?

I haven’t been to BP Downtown in a couple of months, but was walking by the “temporarily closed” “K” movie theatre yesterday and noticed the new signs about what’s coming soon - a takeover by Regency.

Doesn’t look it will be ready anytime soon by a longshot - maybe for this fall?

Anyone has any other info about potential opening dates, please share.

Yikes Indeed

Just went on Indeed today since I hadn’t been on there in 4 or 5 days. Scanned for about 10 minutes and there wasn’t a single job worth applying to at all. For the record I live in an area of 9 million people and have about 19 years recent work experience on various types of projects. This might be a record for lowest number of relevant jobs I’ve found.

Yikes.

Odd neighbor / comments and fireworks

I have been living in the same place, in a dense suburb, for 6 years and it’s that time of year (USA) when people start setting off illegal fireworks. We live in a condo with a couple private roads for access to parking. There are many apartments across the main street about 2-3 blocks to the SOUTH where a bunch of these “professional” fireworks usually originate, and many are just a loud boom (firecracker) but some are mortars with a flower / bang that go into the air exploding over, or closer to our house. Every year leading up to the 4th it gets worse almost every night. These are banned in the town, but very hard to enforce and so it goes on. My dog hates it, and I also have a couple newborns right now that are easily startled awake. So for the past 7+ nights I’ve been hearing a few of these every night but has been ending pretty quickly.

Yesterday, someone started shooting them off in the daytime. Same sounds, etc but they were 100% exploding over our rooftop, so even closer than usual, but still sounded they were coming from the same direction as normal. I initially heard 4, in pairs spaced a couple of minutes apart. Dog immediately started barking and babies crying. About 5-10 minutes later, I heard 2 more and same result. I immediately called the non-emergency tip line just to get it on record and told them “hey somebody is shooting large fireworks directly over our house in the middle of the day” and described them and explained our situation, including the newborns. Then gave them the cross streets to the SOUTH where they usually come from. They asked me for my name and phone number which I gave, but never asked me for MY address. They said they’d check it out, but didn’t expect anything to come of it, just a “OK we’ll do a drive by” situation and that’s it. Never heard anything back. Moved on to other things and there were no more booms after that, until much later at night (and farther away).

Was walking my dog about 4 hours later along the main boulevard we live near, and here comes my douchey neighbor (who lives 2 doors down due EAST) who I didn’t instantly recognize, since there’s a lot of such people around here and it was outside our immediate neighborhood. As he got closer, he’s like “oh hey sorry about those two fireworks earlier, I know you have a newborn” and just kept walking. I’m like “ohh, really?” completely off guard and taken aback.

A few years ago we nicknamed the dad douche so this guy is son of a douche. He also seems to be on some sort of probation or parole for selling drugs, but I don’t know any more than that. He’s tried to say hi to me a few times but I just pretty much ignore the guy and keep walking. I’ve seen him outside other times while walking my other child and dog around the neighborhood. Never told him we have a newborn. Nor did I tell the police line he was shooting off fireworks, as I was under the impression they were coming from the other direction. My question is how the F did he know any of that?? I’m still a bit weirded out by it since the call was private from inside my own house (even with the windows closed) and I never went outside to investigate further, just went back to watching the kids.

Which one do I pick?

NGL the satin jacket is really nice but I already have a few jackets, including the windbreaker from last year, which was just OK quality wise. However a similar black jacket current sells on Fanatics for $115, so it seems like a good value.

The football is alright, if premature. I got the Aaron Donald one two years ago, but feel like I have enough footballs for now.

Vest is a no for me dawg.

Poker set looks cool and probably the most collectible of these. Doubt I’d use it to play poker. Need more chips than that!

Can’t be serious with this?

2 years? 6 months?

How about responding to every applicable role, in office, hybrid, remote for the last year or more, like the majority of people I’ve met? What then? Oh - not a filter problem… whoops.

TIFU by driving myself to ER

I didn’t feel right the day before yesterday, about 11pm after using the bathroom, wasn’t sure if I stood up too fast or pushed too hard or something else happened. But felt a little bit lightheaded and like someone punched me hard in my diaphragm, with a slight pain in my shoulder. Both didn’t get any better in about 10 minutes of me walking in circles, drinking water, and doing breathing techniques. Turns out I was having a heart attack and could’ve died on the way, or crashed into something and never made it.

I probably could’ve Ubered there or had a neighbor drive me or called 911 and wait for an ambulance to show up and take me. But none of this seemed right for whatever reason. The other part of the problem (IMO) is I live in-between two very mediocre hospitals, both 2-3 miles away, and the next “better” hospital is 20 minutes drive, but I was determined to go there (and I did, somehow).

So yeah don’t do this if possible. Good news, I’m still alive and doing better now 👍 They did a procedure and I have to follow up with my cardiologist and primary doctor. The hospital doctor when following up said, if I tried to sleep it off I never would’ve woken up.

The irony is I was getting ready to go to the gym when this happened. Can’t imagine how it would’ve gone down if it occurred there. I’m not overweight or enjoy greasy/fried foods, but I did have a lot of other risk factors like family history, genetics, etc and was already taking some medicine for it.

TL; DR I had a heart attack in the bathroom and drove myself to the hospital 20 minutes away and could’ve died. 49/M
