Random packages keep coming at my door.

Last week I got a package thrown on my buildings' doorstep addressed to a different part of town. No possible confusion, the addresses are completely different. I was thinking about bringing it to its recipient, errors can happen, right?

But today, a second one, again to another address, popped up. The packages both look like AliExpress/temu junk and are both shipped with a company called "speedaf". I could only find an address in Fribourg but no phone number or email to tell them to stop dumping stuff at my house. And now I don't feel like becoming a volunteer postman for them.

Has anyone dealt with such a thing?

How to mount this tyre?

I understand tyres having no markings if orientation doesn't matter, I understand a rotation arrow, I understand two arrows with front and back written, but this one (Mitas H04) has me stumbled.

Have bicycles' freewheels become louder?

Hi everyone, I live by a busy road and I know well enough the noise of a bike freewheeling (the famous "krrrrrrrrrrr"). But in the recent years I am feeling that they have become much louder. Is this how newer hubs are made? A trend similar to biker's "loud pipes save lives"? Am I hallucinating?
Thanks four your answers!

PS: I'm not complaining about it, there are much more annoying things on the road than a passing bicycle.

Newly acquired Shanghai "Forever" YongJiu: missing the rear fender rods

Hello everyone, and greetings from Switzerland!

I was contemplating getting a bike to use at my workplace, searched for "old bike", and found a listing called "old bike for sale" with "needs completely redone" as the only description. The equivalent of US$25 later the bike was in the trunk.

This glorious piece of machinery is one of the numerous Chinese clones of a 1930's bicycle, which are still produced to this day. Steel frame, single speed, rod brakes. It came with a front basket, original accessory from the manufacturer. It is was 100% original and low miles (almost no wear on the original tyres) before being stored in a damp basement of some sort, which killed a lot of the chrome. I had to replace the original red rubber "Two coins" tubes because they were literally split in half. Greased the wheel bearings while I was there. Races are perfect.

Now, I need your help because it's missing the rods that keep the rear fender in place. Does anyone know where I can get this kind of thing? and what shape are they if I need to make new ones myself?

Thanks for reading!

[FRANCE] In vacation and twelve local stamps to use!

Repost from r/RandomActsofCards because it seems there's not that much Frenchies there.

(English below)

Hi everyone, currently in vacation in France and the post office lady sold me local stamps by mistake and couldn't reverse the transaction. No worries, more postcards to send!

I've got 12 "Petit Prince" stamps and am currently in Noirmoutier, France. I live in Switzerland if you want to send me something in return.

Old house without a central heating, what to replace an oil stove?

Hi everyone,

Long shot given the specifics, but I'm looking for a bit of advice.

I live in an 19th century building and we still use an oil stove for heating. Works great but with heating oil prices going up every year, it's not sustainable in the long run. Also counting that while I can maintain and repair them myself, getting parts or a replacement stove will not become easier.

The house is a two storey building, so installing a regular central heating with a heat pump with radiators and running all the pipes would be prohibitively expensive.

What I'm inching towards is either

  • Wood pellet stove. Uses the already existing chimney and electricity outlet. Literally a remove and replace operation. Inconvenient: You have to get the pellets upstairs and autonomy is quite limited.
  • Multi-split air-air heat pump with one big outside unit and multiple inside units in the various rooms. Inconvenient: You have to run the refrigerant pipe through the apartment, but at least it's one white plastic thing.

Of course with the installation of solar panels on the roof.

Has someone installed such heating and would like to share about it?
