Meddling staff (and family!) would drive me nuts

First of all I realize it’s a dramatization of actual events for, well, drama’s sake. But every time the young queen is corrected, or coerced, or steered in one direction or another by staff I can’t stand it. She’s the queen, she’s literally your boss! Just because you’re a man doesn’t mean you know better! I also realize that in the 50’s (60’s, 70’s…) the male palace staff probably thought that they *did* know better. It just creams my corn.

Also, her mother is awful, so Victoria Hamilton did a great job portraying that and making me hate her with very few exceptions! (The darling scene in Scotland when the older gentleman didn’t recognize her and wanted to sell her a castle was one such exception!)

Kicking seat in front of him in the car

My mom takes us to and from preschool (she volunteered to do it) and most of the time it goes very well. For the past few days my son (four, five end of July) has been kicking my mom’s seat and refuses to listen to any gentle redirection. My mom’s strategy is to dramatically yell “NO!” and threaten not to drive him to school anymore which of course makes the kicking worse because she’s just getting into a power struggle.

Other than taking his shoes off any tips? He’s done annoying things before, goes through a phase of “bad” behavior and then just - stops, so I know it’s also a phase.

Thanks for any suggestions before I pop my authoritarian mom in the face😳

“Don’t overdo it”

I’m American although my dad was born and raised in German. When I was a kid a distant German relative (a generally nice middle-aged man) came to stay with us. One night I lost an entire book report I had spend an hour typing up and was hysterical with frustration and fatigue. He patted my shoulder and said “Don’t overdue it.”

I always thought he meant it sympathetically and kindly, in a sense of “don’t get all worked up, don’t work so hard, it’ll all be ok.” Now that I’m myself married to a German who I’ve heard say “don’t overdo it” in a sense of “Calm down, crazy, you have a lot of big feelings and are maybe exaggerating”…

What did my relative mean by it?🫣

Evening Zoomies 🫣

I’m so tired you guys. When does bedtime stop being the same fucking struggle every night? Like I know you’re tired, I know you need a safe, quiet, soft space to help you calm down but the throwing clothes and screeching and running in circles…

EDIT: I just had to wait for the storm to pass. Suddenly after twenty minutes of this he agreed it was time to put his pajamas on. He brushed his teeth and went pipi like a champ. My husband was summoned for evening cuddles and they’re chatting away happily in bed like nothing even happened 🤣I’m covered in perspiration but SO thankful the zoomies are over…for tonight.

Expiration dates that are impossible to find

Ugh! I just want to know what date my preschooler should really be eating his yogurt by. I’m a busy and often exasperated mom, I don’t need to go hunting for a tiny, impossible-to-find date. Please just make my life a little easier!

Oh, and Happy Mother’s Day to those who celebrate 🤣

Skincare ads that feature women with already-perfect skin

I know that they’ll sell more if they feature beautiful (young!) women with no pores and not acne-ridden crones, but come on. Show me how this works on a middle-aged lady with texture and pores and then we’ll talk.

I have so many samples I sometimes neglect my full-sized bottles! Sunday is such a great scent. A toasty matcha latte next to a bowl of creamy rice pudding - pure indulgence but also somehow fresh and not overpowering. I wore it yesterday and today my Apple watch still smells good, lol!

And legitimately couldn’t smell *anything.* Not Vetiver, not Another 13, nothing. The overwhelming “perfume“ scent in the air cancelled out anything I was trying to sniff. Unfriendly service, too.

However my two samples from Scentsplit, Gaiac 10 and Thé Noir, smell absolutely lovely at home!

I woke up a bit uncomfortable down there so I thought it might be a UTI. Went to pee in a cup and the urinalysis didn’t show infection (yay!) but the physician says elevated blood sugar can lead to discomfort.

I’ve been trying to reduce sugar, don’t drink soda, all (most…) the things. So frustrating!

Anyway. Today I learned that what feels like might be a UTI can be actually the universe saying “cut back on the sugar, girlie, I know it’s hard…”

It’s a bit, well, big on me but it’s also super comfy. Was supposed to arrive two days ago but better late than never, that’s what!

Etsy says my “twenty pounds of brown sugar” shirt should have arrived yesterday and I was so happy because my husband, not that he would have objected to my buying a fun thing for myself, was going to be out all day 🫣🤣

The damn thing is still not here! I don’t want to be a Rachel Lynde about it but it’s a disappointment, that’s what.

I bought a T-shirt that says “twenty pounds of brown sugar” on Etsy and I’m *unreasonably* excited for it to arrive 🤩They say it should arrive today…*tracks package for the hundredth time*
