Phosphorous lab level?

Hi all. My dad has had 5 cycles of first line treatment. Many of his blood levels have improved (hemoglobin, protein, calcium, IgG, IgA, IgM, m-spike is down to .1). His phosphorous went from normal to low as soon as treatment started and stayed there. Is it concerning that it hasn’t improved? Should I mention it to his onc?

7F is changing and it may be time for meds?

I am at a loss. My 7F has been able to manage with an IEP, some OT & PT (although she’s not in any therapy right now). There are some days when I think “she’s fine, just an emotional kid.” But there are other days when my stomach drops.

Recently, she’s started to hit at home when she’s frustrated. Her frustration tolerance lately seems at an all time low. The happiest baby/toddler who loved everyone and everything now seems miserable. Everything is “dumb” and “stupid”. She’s also constantly stuck in fight or flight mode, scanning for danger. We notice that friends and family aren’t clamoring to be around her anymore like they used to be.

I feel so sad. I don’t know what happened. But it’s gotten to the point where teven my husband is ready to talk to someone.

In Nurtec rebound hell - HELP

I started Nurtec as a preventive (every other day) about 2 months ago. The 1st month was amazing - 0 migraines! But this month has been a nightmare. I am getting a breakthrough headache on the 2nd day (right in time to go to sleep). Has this happened to anyone before? Should I use it as a rescue? Or do I change the preventive dosage to the afternoon or evening instead? Right now I take it in the morning. It seems to only be covering me for 36 hours, not 48.

Alternative to Thermal Spark?

Does anyone know of a comparable product to TS since it’s no longer being manufactured. Eva’s recommended a product to me that had a ton of caffeine which I’m not really interested in. Any suggestions?

Oral minox for CTE?

I have had CTE for 2 years. I think my initial trigger was a med but went off of it and nothing changed. My hair regrows but will not stop shedding. All normal bloodwork, derm says “it will stop eventually”.

Will oral minox stop the shedding? Looking for advice from people who have had similar stories.

Husband upset about the way daughter treats him

Hi all. My husband attempted to take our daughter 7F fishing today. I had a feeling it would not end well and I was right. According to him, they had a great time for about 30 mins. After that, she became dysregulated when he tried to help her with her rod. She became verbally aggressive, called him a horrible father etc (she is receiving consequences for that btw).

It’s frustrating because he comes home so doom and gloom. I completely understand he’s hurt and frustrated. But he paints it all with a wide brush. The last time they went fishing they had a great time and he sung her praises about how regulated and calm she was the whole time. Now he says he “never” can connect with her. To make matters worse, they are both very similar in personality and constantly trigger each other. I’m at a loss and very frustrated.

Is oral minox the solution to CTE & disrupted hair cycles?

I have had CTE for 2 years now. I was on a med (not glp1) that caused the TE and even though I went off of it, it never stopped. I feel like the med permanently disrupted the hair cycles and now they will never sync back up. I have no issue with regrowth, just shedding. All bloodwork is normal and even ideal for hair. Is oral minox the answer?

Can I space Nurtec out as a preventive?

I recently started Nurtec every other day as preventive and I like it a lot. Am I able to space it out more like every 2 days or every 3 days? I do have some minimal side effects which I am trying to decrease. I know people can take it as a rescue me but I don’t really want to do that either.

Will it always be a never ending battle?

Hi all. My 72M father was diagnosed with IgG MM in April after he suffered 5 broken vertebrae. He just finished round 3 of DVRD treatment and he has at least 5-9 more cycles to go. He is doing much better than he was prior to diagnosis, but this feels like “whack a mole”. When 1 thing resolves, another thing creeps in. And now he’s suffering from endless fatigue and diarrhea and headaches. It’s so exhausting.

His myeloma markers are all normal, and his m-spike is .1, which I am grateful for. I know he will be on meds the rest of his life in some capacity, but does this ever get better?

FWIW, we are not exploring SCT or car-t at this time.

Tips for social anxiety?

My 7F has developed social anxiety recently. She used to talk to strangers and be super outgoing. She is still very outgoing with peers her age, but she has developed anxiety around talking to people she doesn’t know well. For example, she refuses to check in every morning at camp. It’s like the older she gets, the more she understands social nuances and gets worried about messing up. She told me it feels “awkward”. She is not avoidant though to social situations (school, camp, birthday parties etc).

Any tips on how to help? She is not medicated, but she takes saffron which helps with mood. I did read “breaking free of childhood anxiety” by Eli Leibovitz and it’s been hugely helpful! It doesn’t help that much with the social piece, though.

Tough day after meltdown at the beach

My 7F Daughter has been so regulated lately and I’ve had high hopes. We even went on vacation last week without incident and had an amazing time. Today, we had plans to go to the beach. My best friend and her family (she has a 5F daughter) traveled an hour to come too.

Our girls played nicely all day, swam, shared, had a great time. After being at the beach for 4-5 hours in 105 degree heat, my daughter turned “dark”. This happens when she’s tired, hungry, or both. Then, she said something mean to my friend’s daughter and made her cry. My best friend is a total “mama bear” type and can be overprotective and gets defensive and upset when her daughter’s feelings are hurt. I’ve had this discussion with her that they are kids, and she acknowledges she’s too protective at times.

Well, it happened again and my bff got defensive of her daughter. The ironic thing is my bff has adhd herself!!! Anyway, her reaction to my kid sent me into a spiral and instead of deescalating the situation, I made it worse because I immiedately told my kid she was punished when she got home. My kid went then into full tantrum mode. This was at the end of the day so we packed up our shit and left.

I feel so sad. I’m upset she acted like that, and I’m upset about my reaction to her. I get so embarassed and feel so judged in these situations that it clouds my husband. My husband shrugs it off as “they are kids” and he thinks my bff is the bigger issue. He was even annoyed with me that I was so apologetic about her behavior. (My bff’s husband, on the other hand, was the complete opposite and told my daughter he loved her and couldn’t wait to see her again).

Thoughts?

ETA: your comments have opened my eyes more than you know. I am so so angry with myself. If the shoe was on the other foot, and my bff’s kid was “mean” to my kid, I would’ve checked in with my kid first and then showed hers some compassion! I’m so mad.

Separation anxiety is driving me nuts

My daughter (6F) has separation anxiety. She has no issue with going to school and she sleeps independently. But when one off situations come up, she absolutely cannot handle it. For example, we just had an emergency with our dog. I grabbed my keys and put on my shoes and told her I had to go and I would be home soon (she stayed home with my husband). Well she has been screaming and crying at home with my husband and even throwing things (not typical for her). She’s holding photos of me and rocking back and forth like I died. I called her to try and calm her down and she was a mess saying things like “I can’t live without you”. Wtf! I know it was unexpected I left so we couldn’t prepare her for it, but this is crazy. FWIW, she is unmedicated.

How to accept husband’s PE

My husband and I have been together for around 15 years. Truthfully, he has always had PE. But now that we have kids and careers and sex is less frequent, it’s bad. I love him and I’m not interested in anyone else. He is also a selfless lover and I always get off so no worries there. But we barely can have PIV sex. I think it lowkey stresses us both out. I never make him feel bad about it. My only complaint is he refuses to jerk off which I think would help. He also recently went sober which has also made things worse. We have done the numbing spray thing and I hate it. It smells bad and kills the mood. Just looking for advice, I guess. Especially interested in hearing from other partners on how to cope.

(No creepy dm’s!)

I can’t stop dreaming of my (nightmare) ex for years now

Hi all. I’m at my wits end. I dream about my nightmare ex multiple times a week and I need it to stop. Let me explain further.

The ex I am referring to is my high school “sweetheart”. We dated until our early twenties, but were entangled until mid twenties. The last time we had any contact was 2010, and I met my wonderful husband in 2011.

My ex is a complete narcissist and compulsive liar. I know the word “narcissist” is trendy now, but I’m saying I knew he was a narcissist when I was 17 in 2002 before anyone really knew what it meant. I do not stalk him online. I do not think of him in my waking hours. Yet somehow, I dream of him multiple times a week.

The dreams usually center around sex or attraction. I was incredibly sexually attracted to him. The sex wasn’t even good, but I craved him and had to have him. Truthfully I haven’t felt the way about another man since him, but I also know that the toxicity played a huge part of that. I also wanted him for a very long time before we actually got together, so there was definitely a “yearning” component too.

I hate dreaming of him. This is a man that I had to spend years and years in therapy for. So how do I make this stop?

Interesting tidbit: a few years ago, I went on a daily migraine medication and the dreams completely stopped. It was amazing! Unfortunately the medication didn’t wind up working so I had to go off and the dreams returned.

We cut screens today

My 7F’s behavior has gotten progressively worse since her screen time increased and also the content changed. As of today, there is no more computer and YouTube at all.

I know today is only Day 1, but what can we expect? This morning she was happy and entertaining herself but by the afternoon, she’s miserable (but not asking for screens) and exhausted and sleeping a lot. When do you typically see the shifts in better behavior?

Daughter keeps getting violent with Dad

I need advice. My 7F has always had a rough housing relationship with dad. I had warned him before that he needed to be careful with this because she would get confused. Anyway, now she keeps getting violent with him. Yesterday, she punched him in the nuts for no reason (I’m guessing she thought it was funny). She had consequences for that last night, and we obviously spoke with her. This morning, he went to brush her hair before school and she got angry and did it again. He obviously got very mad and now feels horrible because 5 mins later she got on the bus for school.

She is not violent towards anyone else. It is obviously the impulsivity. Has anyone been through this? For reference, she is not on meds.

I’ve had it with the body repetitive behaviors!

I can’t take this anymore. My 6F has constant body repetitive behaviors. It’s either picking her nose, excessive wiping which leads to irritation or something else. I’ve had it and I want to start her on an SSRI, but I know my pediatrician will be against it.

She’s already done OT and they basically kicked her out after a few months and said she didn’t need it. I don’t know what else to do at this point.

CTE here for almost 2 years. Have not been able to figure out the trigger, I think a med I took a long time ago messed up my hair cycles and it never recovered. I think it may be time for oral minox, even though regrowth is not my problem. My hair cannot recover because it’s constantly shedding.

Did anyone start oral minox and abandon it because the dread shed is so bad? I’m so scared of that
