I Got Sick of All The Vampire Survivor Clones...So I made A Game Where You Kill A Hero!

Game Title: Zero Survivors: The Hero Must Die

Playable Link: https://peggydoggames.itch.io/zero-survivors

Platform: PC (Windows) on itch.io

Description: There are many, many, MANY games out now where you play as a hero, unlock weapons and abilities and kill a load of skeletons. Has anybody stopped to think about how those poor skeletons feel about this?

Zero Survivors: The Hero Must Die Flips that whole genre on its head. You play as death fighting one single, solitary Hero. Of course, death has no attacks, weapons, silly abilities ext. Death selects the right combination of minions, powers and cunning to defeat the hero by any means necessary.

Orbs are still available for experience gain, and you level up...but so does the hero! You will be fighting the hero for every experience orb. If they get an attractorb you had better hope that you can get closer than them to the experience!

Stand next to graves to capture them. Each captured grave will spawn minions, albeit at a slower rate than death. You want as many of those graves captured as possible, but running off to capture graves will allow the hero to farm up experience killing your lovely minions! They will also try to stop you getting those graves whenever they can.

One of my personal favourite parts of the game is the nem ... I mean Heroes of Lore system. If you defeat a hero, they have a chance of coming back stronger and wiser. If you swarmed them with bats to defeat them, then they will have damage bonuses and resistances against bats! You will have to be on your toes with these ones. Of course, the rewards will be far greater too.

Oh - and no bullet heaven is complete without treasure. The only difference is it's the hero getting the treasure of course; not you! Watch them open treasure and pray that it's only one item in that chest.

Most importantly - have fun. I spent a long time on this game so I really hope you like it

Free to Play Status:

  • [x ] Free to play
  • [ ] Demo/Key available
  • [ ] Paid (Allowed only on Tuesdays with [TT] in the title)

Involvement: Solo developed this game over quite a while. I'm currently trying to decide whether to give the game its steam debut instead of just itch, so any feedback is very much appreciated

Trying To Decide Whether I Should Give This A Steam Page. It's Free on Itch Now So Feedback Appreciated

Like the title says - I'm liking the systems and features and frankly I think it is fun. I won't lie and say it's perfect and doesn't need brushing up a bit, but I would pay a couple of quid on Steam for this (with better assets maybe). It's different as well. What impressions do you get from the trailer? (that's also a WIP). Is the game worth creating a Steam page? Free on itch now. Link in comments

Advice please

I'm creating an indie game Called Zero Survivors: The Hero Must Die and wanted to know if the idea had legs. It's all very WIP but the idea is you play as death and wrestle for experience against the hero. The hero unlocks normal vampire survival weapons and abilities on level-up, the player (Death) unlocks minions and powers on level-up. You have to kill the hero before the timer reaches 20 mins. Any advice would be great. As an aside I've already changed the swarm logic so that minions cannot overlap each other. There are also graves which Death can "Capture" which pump out minions at 1/3 the rate of death, helping create that "Surrounded" feel for the hero. Does the idea have legs? I've put quite a bit of time into it now.
