How would YOU (yes, YOU), change Gohan's character?

Honestly, if he just unlocked SSJ3 at somepoint before the Buu Saga (maybe if they used Bojack in a canon way) or was able to use SSJ2 at will, that would be enough.

EDIT: Also, yeah, keep Goku dead, make him stop neglecting his training (or at least make ultimate form a permanent boost) and just have him take Goku's place in Super
