Some recommendations for Photomator

I've recently switched from Lightroom. I will never go back, but I think there could be some improvements to the UI of Photomator. I'm not sure if developers browse this sub, but interested to know what you guys think.

I enjoy the more minimalist look, however, I think there should be an optional left side panel and some top sticky menu items. For those who use many LUTs, it would be nice to be able to browse them to the left as in lightroom. Furthermore, there is a black line that appears in the top when revealing that menu. Not sure if others have this issue.

Filtering out the slop

Hi all. I have a well paying day job but am looking to expand my income. I put about 50% of my salary in indexes, managed funds and some individual stock picks. I do alright. I have been flirting with the idea to start trading to supplement my income.

I just feel like most of the resources I come across is just horrible slop. There are so many brain-dead sounding influencers talking about "their 200% strategy" and to just "buy their courses and indicators". It irks me to a point that I don't even want to bother, and the fact that they probably lose most of their money on the market and make it selling their course to desperate people makes me even more angry. They seem among the lowest of humanity.

Anyway, aside from that rant, where do I find genuine resources for building up enough solid knowledge to start properly analysing trades? I'm an engineer and by nature want to see the maths, the statistics. Can anyone recommend any books, sites, blogs, or channels where people are not just telling you what they bought? I am a complete newbie but want to do this the right way. I don't plan on quitting my job and doing this full-time if I ever get to that level, because I love what I do, so I only plan on ultimately spending 3-4 hours a day, and only actually putting money into it once I've built enough of a base. Any help appreciated.

Cannabis for sleep

Backstory: I am 23 and have had insomnia in the form of not being able to fall asleep (takes 6-7 hours on average) for about 5-6 years now. I have tried melatonin to begin with, then numerous other prescription meds. Beyond medication, I’ve tried every trick in the book: music, silence, bedroom temperature, reading before bed, no screens within 2 hours of going to bed, earlier dinners, not exercising too close to bed time. I exercise intensely 5 times a week and work as an engineer in a fulfilling but draining role. I SHOULD be tired when I go to bed, but I am not. My body doesn’t feel tired, my brain buzzes with thoughts endlessly. When I do fall asleep, I sleep like a rock. It’s very difficult to get up in the morning and if I could sleep until 1pm I’d easily get my 7-8 hours. But that is not compatible with working life, unfortunately.

I had only used cannabis on rare occasions previously, and only in social settings maybe once or twice a year. But this past week I decided to get some gummies to see if it would help. I took it about an hour before intending to go to bed and it was like absolute heaven. I had never felt tired like that in years, and when I woke up I felt incredibly fresh. Got 8 hours of sleep with multiple deep cycles according to my Garmin.

Here is my worry. An uncle of mine developed schizophrenia from recreational drug use. I have also known heavy cannabis users report sleep issues due to it. I’m at a stage now where I need to balance these risks against the endless problems that may haunt me later in life if I don’t fix my sleep soon. Am I going to become heavily reliant on cannabis or can I use it to set my body clock and wind down? I know this is going to be different for everyone but I just want to hear about your experiences. And is there a medical test I can do to discover my risk level of developing a mental disorder from using cannabis regularly?

Is this sleep paralysis?

So about 5 years ago I developed increasingly worsening insomnia. It seems to be relatively stable now but still quite crippling. But this isn’t a post about that, I’m working on it, although the two might be linked.

More recently, for about the last 3 years, I experienced a rare occurrence when falling asleep and want to know whether or not it is sleep paralysis. Every few weeks, sometimes multiple nights in a row, I will be falling asleep and suddenly get an extremely intense feeling in my head, dizziness, heaviness, world spinning, losing control. It usually freaks me out and I can snap out of it pretty easily by jerking my head quickly or sitting up. Once I didn’t do anything because I was so sleep deprived I didn’t care and I genuinely went into a full paralysis state for a minute or so. I was terrified trying to scream or move but nothing was responding. This I’m certain was an episode of sleep paralysis, I’m just trying to find out if the feeling I experience before is well known? I can’t find much online and understand that paralysis is far more common when waking up rather than falling asleep.

Also, what should I do in the future? When I knock the feeling off a few times and walk around it seems to subside but then it’ll be back to usual: not falling asleep until 4am. It just feels like such an intense episode that it can’t NOT be harmful, but I’m quite a paranoid person.

Looking for alternatives

Like most of us, I hate Adobe as a company. I have found good alternatives for all Adobe products I previously used, except for lightroom. I'm sure this has been a hot talking point so if you point me in the direction of what I'm looking for I'll probably close this post.

I have looked at Apple's Photomator and am seriously considering it, but I would like to see what else is out there before committing. I need the AI denoise and remove features. I also would like to be able to transfer the presets I have developed over the last decade in a way that doesn't involve making them from scratch.

Let me know if you have a list/point me towards one that compares features and pricing such that I can make an educated decision. Thanks in advance!

Advice on my program

Built this weekly program with the help of AI. I am a 23 y/o male, weigh 78 kg and want to go up to about 83-85kg. I’m an avid swimmer but want to build lean muscle, used to swim 3-4 times a week but now swimming twice. Seeking advice on my gym program.

GENERAL NOTES

• Rest 90–120 seconds between compound lifts.
• Progressively increase weight whenever all prescribed reps are achieved with good form.
• Pull-ups can be weighted once bodyweight sets become easy.
• Swim sessions alternate between endurance-focused and speed/interval-focused work.
• I may switch Saturday and Sunday depending on my weekend plans.
• Wednesday and Saturday/Sunday are full recovery days.

Not enough axes

I go through many fruit bushes and can’t seem to get enough axes to chop them down. I’ve tried wheating but genuinely get one axe every like 20 minutes of continuous work and I don’t want to be spending that much time doing something so mundane my life is worth more than that. I’m level 42 so maybe more fields in the future would make wheating more beneficial but any tips rn?

RSS Value spreadsheet?

I’m a nerd and I have seen a few people do some spreadsheets to find the best time to money ratio for items to sell in the RSS. I have identified two problems:

  1. Don’t take into account previous production times (i.e. jewelry will require bars that take longer to produce than the final item so you can’t keep required ingredients in continuous stock and your time to produce is effectively longer)

  2. Optimizing production chains. E.g. Cheese is used to produce multiple upstream products, we need to isolate production chains so that the few most valuable end products can be produced in parallel.

Does anyone know of a system that has fully taken these into account and if not, who is keen on working on one collaboratively?

Suggestion for animal homes

I saw Supercell developers sometimes monitor this sub for suggestions. I’m not sure how many people suffer from this issue, but when I was younger I bought 4 dog houses because I thought it was sick. I got into the game recently because of my dead-end job, and I only have three dogs, which all fit into one house. The other three empty dog houses need to be placed on the farm, even though they’re empty. If only I could store them like decorations or simply delete them from my inventory that would be very helpful. Cheers.

Where do I send formal letter

Shopify has been restricting me from transferring my domain name, which is against ICANN policy. I have a formal legal letter, where do I send it? I can't find an email for them anywhere it is infuriating. Their chat agents are shockingly useless.

Transferring domain, Shopify sketchy behaviour

Hi there. I opened a Shopify store and bought a domain name through them. I switched bank accounts and a charge didn't go through, but I decided I wasn't ready to open my store anyway so I didn't reactivate my deactivated account. I have since decided that Shopify is not the service I plan to use but I would like the domain name access so I can transfer it to Cloudflare.

I cannot access the DNS or nameserver because my account is in arrears, but I have already paid to own the domain name. I reached out to their customer support and they said I will need to pay the outstanding invoice before they can give me access to my domain. Surely this is not right? They are withholding a separate product which I own because I didn't pay for a different service that I have paid for in full and that has been rendered inactive anyway...

Transferring domain

I want to transfer my domain from Shopify to Cloudflare. Apparently I need to go through another registrar to do so, which seems ridiculous, but oh well. I've attached a screenshot with their instructions, does anyone have a registrar that allows nameserver changes that I can use as an intermediary, for free?

I have been in jhb for a few months after moving from the Cape. I have still not actually been inside the CBD. Most people I have met here basically insinuate that I’m going to get murdered. I assume this is a huge over exaggeration, however a colleague of mine did get robbed at knifepoint on the one occasion he visited as he needed pick something up. I have no business there and get everything elsewhere but I am interested to explore a bit. I have seen relatively good things about Marshalltown and Newtown. Any tips?
