I accidentally dropped the stylus onto the felt slipmat while it was spinning, do you think it's damaged?

These are the best photos I managed to take (sorry for the poor quality of the photos, my camera is a bit of shit).

I wanted to spin a 45, so I put it on the turntable, select the speed, and drop the needle on the first groove, only that instead of starting to feel the vibrations, It slips off the disc and onto the felt slipmat, I managed to get it off in a second, I can only tell you it almost gave me a heart attack.

Now jokes aside, I'm really worried about the needle situation, after putting another record in pretty good condition and listening to it I don't notice any distortion, skip while listening, the cantilever seems straight, the diamond seems to be where it has always been, in short it seems fine, but I also wanted to ask the opinion of other people who have more experience than me.

Springer just jumped in muddy puddle

Despite my constant shouts of ‘no’. it appears a puddle of mud is more rewarding than me. Just had to bath him - which was v exciting for him and v annoying for me.

I’m 30 years old and I’m about to listen to dark side of the moon front to back for the first time in my life, on vinyl

Here we go …

Needle bent?

Trying to decide if I should replace the needle on my AT-LP120X. The needle looks kinda bent to me and I’ve been having anti skate issues with it.

Is the nib damaged?

I'm not sure if the nib is damaged. It's my first turntable and I was trying to set it up. I'm not sure the nib is supposed to look like this and after about an hour and a half of playing I'm pretty sure the right channel is lauder than the left one, although this could just be in my head.
If it's damaged it could have been when I was messing with the weights or because I put it too on the edge the first (three) time and it flew right off.
Or maybe it's all fine and I'm sweating over nothing.

Hi, I have a question. I touched the needle on a fabric pad for vinyl records. I'm worried something might have happened to it. Could someone take a look at the photo?

So I got this AT120xusb out of a dumpster. It looks like new. I bought a new needle as the other was not good. But this 1appears to be riding way low. Is it me or the cartridge or the weight. The counter weight seems to slide forward and back as well as turn

Maybe a counterfeit needle? It came right out of the package like this. The needle is level with the green plastic part

Setting up lp120, does this look good for the cartridge? I don’t wanna set it to be too heavy

I have it set to what I think is just over 2 grams but I’ve never set one up and I don’t wanna accidentally ruin records

New record day!

Always liked this version but I scratched my original so went looking for a new one. £5 on Discogs. Not been played - I could tell as the hole was just a tad too small for the spindle.

I messed up.

The other day I accidentally dropped the tonearm on the rubber mat (just wanted to clean the stylus and my finger slipped off of the headshell handle on the side, also forgot to raise the cue lever) and it bounced a couple of times. Also, I guess I have put some sideways pressure on it while trying to grab it. Anxious rookie mistake, I know.

Thought not much of it, then came back to this view yesterday while putting on a record 🥲 The turntable is fairly new, so I was trying to stave off the itch to get a better stylus, and just enjoy it, but I guess it is time for an upgrade?

How did I Do????? Absolutely ecstatic here :-) All were in killer condition - not a scratch on them.

Seeing these worth 15-40$ a piece at a record store…. Sadly

Pioneer PL 430

I bought this a while ago and it got some use as a second table to my Thorens but it had a speed issue - which looking at vinyl engine is apparently caused by breakdown from one of the rubber suspension things affecting the speed switch. So I dug it out of storage and fixed it. Dead steady now. Sounds surprisingly good too.

New collector, safe to store my records like this?

I’ve been really enjoying collecting music for a few months now and got a new shelf for my setup that I saved up for, I’m exploring my options to store records and lol I have another 16 coming in the mail so I want to make sure they are all stored properly, sometime soon I will post a setup tour.

Off centre pressings

Really boil my piss. Especially piano music. I have reamed out a few so I can get them centralised but I am reluctant to do this to first editions and rare records.

Trade in ships

Which ones are any good and more importantly are they worth it. I have a Carnot I want to get rid of but of the options there there is only the incheon ( which means buying more dubs) or the Mainz which I have any interest in.

Can’t play Des Moines

Can play this ship for some reason. I have like 36% victories compared to the Wooster where I have over 50.

Any tips to improve on it.

What have been using the last 10 years.

I bought a lot of vintage audio stuff about 15 years ago before there was much interest in it- particularly turntables - some of the stuff you could get a low prices was insane.

After going through a garrard zero 100sb, dual cs505, technics sl150mk1 with a rega arm, technics sl120mk2 again using a rega arm, and a Lenco 75, I finally settled on the thorens td321 with a signet xk50 arm.

I got the luxman for less than £100 and it has stayed while many other amps have been sold - lovely class a discreet circuit amp. Got the tuner for cheap and - although I don’t use it much - it sounds great (better than a DAB tuner I also have). The cd5 I bought new and have repaired and rerepaired it over the years so I kinda have sentimental attachment to it. Not the best cd player but I don’t hear the improvements much with cd players - I also bought a Cambridge audio azur 640v2 but sold it as I preferred the sound of the cd5.

I found the celestions on eBay for about £50 and they sat unused for ages as I used the MS20i pearls. But I dug them out to see if they were still ok and they sound fantastic - so I kept them in the system. I really like the sound of these speakers. Warm punchy bass with a little scoop on the midrange. The tweeters have been changed to vifa dg25 which I think are smoother than the originals.
