Cartridge connector

M64 Cart Connector

GOOD: Seems WAAAY more reliable than the one in my Analogue 3D. I've only had to reseat the game a couple times ever.

Bad: It appears to be permanently attached to the main PCB; not designed to be modular and replaceable.

I read the iFixIt teardown. They disassemble the eject mechanism and door flaps but there is no mention of removing the cartridge connector.

This part of the console gets mechanical wear and can also be damaged by a small object getting accidentally smashed into the contacts.

Analogue 3D -has a sub-board that can be removed or swapped.

Analogue Nt mini -the same, I believe.

RetroUSB AVS -allows you to swap the cartridge slot. Very fortunate because BunnyBoy had to replace them.

Original N64 -cart slot can be detached from main board and swapped.

SNES (model1) -cart slot can be detached from main board and swapped.

NES (model1) -cart slot can be detached from main board and swapped.

Maybe I missed something. If the M64 cart connector actually *is* removable and replaceable, it's strange that the iFixIt disassembly missed that.

Perfect Dark screen freeze during transition instead of going black

This issue is *not* related to "occasional FPS drops" as mentioned on the compatibility list. It's a new / unrelated issue.

I noticed the screen freezes instead of going black after dismissing the title screen to load the Carrington Institute / user interface. It also happens when you select "change agent" and the scene reloads. It makes the game *appear* to lock up for multiple seconds. With Analogue 3D, the screen goes black until the scene reloads. I believe the black screen is the correct behavior for original hardware. It seems really glitchy to see the frozen screen on my M64.

Just reporting this to everyone before I report it to ModRetro. One of the first things I noticed while playing around with it.

Weekend flea market haul.

Most of this came from one vendor. I think that seller buys storage units. Not really game guys.

Some of it is super clean. Some other items from the same seller were nasty. Spent just over $200.

That nasty N64 controller has a great thumbstick!

Cased N64 games have original manuals and cut up original boxes. Normally a case like these would have been included when purchasing a Performance brand controller memory pak.

3DS LL (XL) is Japanese.

N64 is NS1[X] serial number, so it should be good for the easy internal RGB mod. Power supply AC cord is damaged so I'll need to replace that bit. I think that's just rust on the bottom shield but I'll disassemble to check for bugs

N64 games are all authentic. Both controller paks are authentic Nintendo-brand paks. Dunno why one of them shares a case with Goldeneye 007 because the game has internal EEPROM save and does not use the controller pak.

SMB2 (NES) is a less-common print. Strangely the most common print lacks the Nintendo seal.

Model 3 Sega Genesis is VA2 board inside. Not the most desirable one. No power cord or AV cable.

Pictionary is worth $1 just for the Tim Follin title screen music alone!

I definitely missed out on some stuff that was getting purchased just as I approached the table. I think those guys bought Zelda OoT with a similar case + manual + chopped original box. There was a super clean copy of Rogue Squadron with a case and chopped box, but the case was missing the front and there was no manual. I suppose that seller might find those things in the bottom of a box somewhere. I already have the game so I skipped that one.

No idea why my phone uploaded the stick bug photo but I'm leaving it there.

Wife is in SE Asia. These are GRAPES???

They're HUGE! She said they are sweet and seedless. The same texture as any other grape. So I guess these have been cultivated and hybridized to a similar degree. Why is this not the standard grape around the entire world???

Filthy flea market find. WTF???

What would possess someone to do this? Methamphetamine? I bought this trash purely out of curiosity to find out what might be inside. I'm so confused! Getting more and more confused as I get deeper...

- Someone sanded the entire outside. Very rough. Dull buttons and D-pad. Chunks missing from Select buttons.

- Seems like they started with a real controller. I can faintly see "Nintendo" on the back side, but someone intended to remove it completely.

- All the gray areas are now silver. I think it was a silver Sharpie marker because there's some scribbles on the inside.

- No cord.

- Wrong screws. 3 screws are missing.

- Thick paper cut into the shape of the original circuit board. Holes cut with razor to make it sit flat against button rubber membranes.

- Some of the alignment posts are snapped off.

- Rubber pads are absolutely filthy.

Maybe I'll put an 8BitDo DIY Bluetooth kit in here and use it ironically :)

My wife is THE GREATEST! (Amazing Analogue bundle)

TL;DR: Had to give up Super Nt and Mega Sg during a difficult time. Thought I'd never own them again because second hand prices are crazy. Wife found AWESOME bundle for me on opposite side of planet.

- Super Nt (SF) +box
- DAC (new, sealed)
- Mega Sg (JP) +box
- Mega Sg cart adapter v1.1 set +box

Total ~$850!!!

The consoles are not in perfect shape, but I don't care. Rubber foot pads on both appear damaged from SE Asian heat. Mega Sg pad is oozing sticky stuff like my old Logitech devices. I'll replace with something custom; or maybe Analogue still has some original rubber pads around to include with my next order. Super Nt doesn't have the mockup Turrican box. Mat for Sega/Mega CD is missing. A rubber mouse pad will work perfectly for me. Everything else was included (SMS cart adapter, USB power, HDMI).

We've worked for years to bring my wife to USA. In January we were at the very end of the process; then USA suspended all immigrant visas from 75 countries "indefinitely." Worst timing! She would have arrived Feb 6. She already quit her job and let the apartment lease expire. Now she's staying with parents and I'm sending extra support money. Meanwhile, she's bored! She finds strange stuff at flea markets and second-hand shops.

During one of the 1st Analogue 3D restocks, I tried to buy a white A3D to go with my black one (brother shares retro gaming bug and we buy many things in twos). I had been waiting to buy Duo, Pocket Dock, and other accessories with the A3D and minimize shipping. I encountered incomprehensible shopping cart restrictions and blocked credit card transactions. This ALWAYS happens when it's "go-time" to order from Analogue. At some point I had wasted an hour and all my credit cards were blocking transactions from Analogue. The only thing I had been able to order successfully was the white A3D. Pocket Dock went out-of-stock at some point. It had been available a week or so earlier when I planned the order. My wife had been waiting for my call, so I gave up and called her. I explained why I didn't call an hour earlier, describing the frustration. Then she just went to the Analogue web site and ordered the Duo for me! I told her she should not have done that, but the Duo is great and I thank her for it often!

Just a few days ago on the 1st of July, I was on a video call with my wife. She found some cool things for me at a flea market. One was a Nintendo "Ten Billion" 1980 puzzle toy for $0.57 - super cheap! Also a Famicom Super Mario Bros (looks authentic) for less than $5. On the video call, I showed her the Analogue Duo she helped me buy months earlier. I thanked her again. I showed her the other Analogue stuff: A3D, Pocket, Dock, etc. I showed her the Nt mini Noir and told her it's probably worth twice what I originally paid. The conversation drifted to me describing my favorite Analogue consoles (Super Nt and Mega Sg) and how I will probably never have another chance to own them again due to insane second-hand prices.

While I was blabbing, she started searching the Internet and found a nearby Super Nt with brand new (sealed) DAC for a great price. I couldn't believe it! I told her to wait. I will pay some bills and then send some money. She ignored me and purchased it with some kind of pay-later thing. The seller also had a Mega Sg. She immediately bought that too. Seller also had the Mega Sg cart adapter v1.1 set. He can't easily sell them in SE Asia without the Mega Sg. I told her not to negotiate. The seller's prices were already fair. I'll just buy it. I couldn't talk her out of it (a cultural thing). She got the adapters with a discount. In the end we got Super Nt, new/sealed DAC, Mega Sg, and v1.1 cart adapters.

I worried it was a scam. On a video call this morning, she unboxed the packages. It's all there! I'm so happy!

If you're proficient at typing, iOS is your enemy. $@&!

This makes me want to smash things.

https://youtube.com/shorts/5smx72yc3eo

iOS thinks it knows better and will not allow me to type "21 ..."

[edit]

It's the standard iOS 26 keyboard. iPhone 17 Pro Max. Turned off swipe-to-type. Turned off autocomplete suggestions (I need the screen space). iPhone is set to old man mode during initial setup. I'm in my mid-forties but my eyes have aged poorly. It's still difficult to use my phone without 3x magnification reading glasses.

There are no names or account details in the screen recording. I checked.

Question about 8BitDo M30 2.4g + Pocket Dock

(posting here and also in r/8bitdo) I installed the specific M30 2.4g firmware to use with Analogue Pocket Dock so it does not require the USB dongle. Button layout should work great for almost any game or OpenFPGA core. I haven't tried games yet, but I'm disappointed to find that navigating the PocketOS menu is not intuitive. The A-button is back/cancel and B-button is accept/advance/confirm. Does it seem backward to you? I know I'll experience confusion every time I try to navigate the OSD menu. Can the functions of these buttons be swapped?

Can't get to the pins? Find a way...

Carnage! After so much determination, the seller got lazy and used AI to write the title and description. Doesn't mention "tilt" or "color" at all. Unexpectedly yammers on about Megaman. "Publisher: MEGAMAN"

I'm tempted to buy this to build a library of nasty game carts.

u/Aromatic_Method7767 — 2 months ago

I think this was one of you guys.

If you waited a week or so to buy the 2.4g version, you could have saved ~$30. I considered getting this but 8bitdo's button sets do not include shoulder buttons. All of these will still have ugly transparent shoulder buttons unless you can mold and cast your own opaque shoulder buttons.

I think this would have been better! PPPPppppppprove me wrong! :)

For real, I'm on the fence about buying it for $90 but I would definitely buy the thing if it worked like this.

Tested A3D compatibility with various Apple Type-C PSUs 29W and higher

Tested Analogue 3D compatibility with various Apple PSUs that feature USB-C +PD, universal input voltage, and swappable AC prongs. Lots of people already have these laying around. Thankfully the Apple devices they came with usually are not too picky about charging from other sources, so you can use your compatible brick for the A3D if you want and charge the Apple device with something else.

WATTS MODEL A3D? NOTES
29W A1540 No from 2015 MacBook
30W A2164 Yes
35W* A2676 No Dual port
61W A1947 Yes
96W A2166 Yes
140W A2452 Yes

I keep my original Analogue PSU in the box, still undisturbed. Some time ago, I got the 96W Apple PSU from a thrift store and I've been using that - but 96W is just overkill! I think I'll switch to the 30-watt A2164.

Minor glitch with A3D + flash cart. Can you replicate?

  1. Does your A3D exhibit the same behavior with your flash cart?

  2. Which flash cart do you have?

I have the current A3D firmware (with "Memories" save state feature), but I suspect this glitch affects previous firmware too.

My flash cart is old (EverDrive v2.5), but it works great. I don't want to clutter my library with entries that don't correspond to my actual cartridge collection, so I keep going through the A3D library to remove everything that came from my flash cart. It's tedious because I have dozens of entries to scroll through for my actual carts.

I loaded Mario Kart 64 (Japanese) from the EverDrive. I quit the game and returned to the A3D library menu, where I found the newly-created entry and deleted it. I then press the B button to jump through the library to my current cartridge (still the EverDrive), but it will not allow me to launch the EverDrive! I power-off the A3D and reboot. Then the EverDrive launches just fine.

I've repeated this a few times. Each time I quit the game and delete the newly-created library entry, I cannot re-launch the EverDrive until I reboot the A3D. At least one time, the A3D's remote power-off function left me with a black screen while the A3D power light was stuck on. I had to get up from my seat to power-cycle that time.
