How to play more intentionally

Currently GM3 and wanting to get better.
This may be a dumb question or very hard to answer as it was also hard for me to word. But what I’m asking is basically how to think more while I’m playing rather than just auto piloting. A lot of people in this sub talk about identifying win conditions, but how exactly do you do that? How do you determine what the right play is at any given point? I know this is the key to being a great player I just need to learn how to do it.

This character is not easy.

I’m a magik player trying to add Wolverine to my bag. But this character has been so hard for me dude, how do you play him when you don’t have your grab? How are you guys not getting fried 24/7? I need help with the basic gameplay loop of this character I think.

[VOD REQUEST] [GM3] Elsa

Had a lot of deaths and bad aim at points in this game, but I’m mostly looking for advice on positioning/game sense. Let me know anything that you guys notice and thank you so much.

How much will self vod-reviews help me and how to do them?

I’m trying to lock in and actually get better at this game and gonna take the step into vod reviewing my games. I have no idea where to start, would anyone be able to lay out the blueprint for what I need to look at or the mindset I need to have going into it?

DPS hero pool suggestions?

I’m trying to be a more flexible DPS, my current hero pool is: Psylocke, Magik, iron fist. I am thinking about picking up Bucky/elsa and or wolverine. What do we think of this? Or any other suggestions.

What to do in fights when it feels like nothing is dying?

As a DPS player there are sometimes fights when it feels like nothing is dying and the fight is just stalemated. Of course I am the one to be blamed in these situations but I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. There are probably lots of answers to this but I’d appreciate any help you guys have.

[VOD REQUEST] [DIAMOND 1]

This game was so winnable but I think I played it very badly. On defense the comp we were facing felt unbeatable, I’m thinking I should’ve flanked more but the peni nest made it so hard.

How to have better game sense?

I know it’s not an easy question to answer but I’d like any help you guys could give. Diamond 1 currently and trying to take the game more seriously and really climb. I want to be very flexible and play multiple characters in multiple roles and I know game sense is the key to that, as well as the key to climbing in general.

[VOD REQUEST] [DIAMOND 2] Trouble identifying mistakes I made

I know we would’ve won this game if I adapted but I’m having trouble identifying the win condition or where I made mistakes. Anybody that could take a quick look at this and help me out would be much appreciated. I feel like there is a lot of learning potential in this loss.

How to counter being perma marked on off angles?

I play a lot of magik and psy and I struggle the most when I’m met on my angle before I can dive (which is what they’re supposed to do) but how do you play against this? Do I just take the 1v1?

Is it okay if I climb more towards the end of the season?

Last season I hit GM for the first time after 450 hours but I was in the last week of the season and it feels kinda fraudulent. Are games easier towards the end of the season and should I be trying to peak earlier on?

When should I actually swap?

People say that this character isn’t really counterable if you’re good on her (unless I’m just wrong) but I feel like I swap off of her too much to really improve because I don’t want to throw games. Are there certain times I need to play differently with her and if so, when?

How to get better?

Currently D2, I’ve hit GM one time but I mostly just sit in diamond but I want to start taking this game seriously and climb. I know everyone says go vod review so I’d prefer some different advice. My hero pool is mainly Psylocke(been moving to Elsa recently) magik, strange, Invis, Luna. What did you guys have to learn to get good at this game?

When to “play tempo” or ult early

Been watching Kingsman play and he talks about this all the time but i don’t fully know what it means. Would anyone be able to fill me in on what tempo means and when to use it?

How much easier is it to play meta?

(Diamond 2) I mainly play dive/brawl (magik, iron fist) which can be pretty hard to get value with at times. If I switched to playing meta heroes would climbing feel noticeably easier or am I coping?

I don’t know how to believe in myself

20M I am currently in the lowest point in my life rn, unhealthiest I’ve ever been, no motivation, no passions, unemployed, basically as bad as it could be. I have never in my life truly believed that I could do hard things or like be successful. I have been wanting to be healthier or like just get my life together but part of me just knows I’m gonna fail. I don’t understand how some people just have such unwavering confidence and can overcome anything. Please teach me.
