Ya Piri Reis, Portekiz'i Yenseydi?

Calm Before the Storm | Europe, 2040

Lore:

2019-2027: The Covid-19 Pandemic, which began in Wuhan, China in 2019, soon takes the entire world under its influence. Even though the pandemic ends in 2022, casualties reach 35 million in Continental Europe alone. The incompetence shown by governments in the war against the pandemic, combined with the migrant crisis and income inequality, leads to the rise of far-right parties. By the year 2025, far-right regimes are established in almost all of Western Europe. These regimes, the majority of which are against the European Union and claim that the EU weakens nation-states, begin to reduce their relations with the USA and increase their production in the field of defense in order to eliminate foreign dependency. This process becomes the beginning of a period in which the influence of the EU and NATO diminishes, and some European countries even leave both organizations. Meanwhile, in March 2023, Russia modernizes its army and launches the invasion of Ukraine, for which it had been preparing since 2014. Although Russian troops launch attacks toward Kyiv in the north and Kharkiv and Odessa in the south during the first months, the three aforementioned cities are never captured. In the Battle of Kyiv, the Russian Army loses against the Ukrainian Army, despite suffering very few casualties compared to them, and is forced to retreat. Although Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Luhansk are captured in the south by 2025, Russia can never cross the Dnieper River and is pushed back from time to time by the Ukrainian Army's summer offensives. Russia launches one final offensive in February 2026 to try and capture Kharkiv, but although the Russian Army makes progress, it fails to capture the city. Consequently, through peace negotiations mediated in Istanbul in October 2026, it is decided that Russia will annex certain oblasts, but will withdraw its armies from the north and will not station more than 10,000 soldiers in the territories it captured in the south until the year 2036. At the same time, Russia is forced to withdraw its support for Transnistria. Although Russia appears to have won a victory, approximately 1 million Russians and 760 thousand Ukrainians have lost their lives for a Pyrrhic victory. Putin tries to convince the public using media channels that Russia won a victory, but these efforts yield no results.

2027-2033: With Russia withdrawing its support, Transnistria comes to the brink of economic bankruptcy. Along with the unification of Romania and Moldova through a referendum in 2028, Transnistria is forced to join the newly established Romanian Federation. In 2030, NATO and the EU are completely dissolved, leaving their place to the European Military Organization (EMO) led by Germany. The EMO is an alliance established to prevent the Baltics and Poland from sharing the same fate as Ukraine, where each member state is required to allocate at least 4% of its budget. However, the organization does not achieve great success. The EU losing the support of the USA by its own choice, while not having a strong army, draws countries like Bulgaria, Hungary, and Greece closer to Russia. The EMO becomes nothing more than a symbolic alliance with only 12 countries participating. In 2030, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko passes away at the age of 75. Upon this, Belarusian nationalists, who want to break free from Russian influence and become a more independent country, seize control of most of the country. Russia intervenes in the situation and invades eastern Belarus. The EMO declares that it will intervene if the Russian Army advances any further. Upon this, the Russian Army decides to stop, as they are not yet ready for such a large-scale conventional war. While eastern Belarus is annexed into Russia, the Republic of Belarus is established in the west. At the same time, Serbia attacks Kosovo and Bosnia. With high levels of weapons and ammunition support from the Russian Army, the entirety of Kosovo and eastern Bosnia are occupied. However, with the support of Turkey, Albania and Macedonia also enter the war. Albania and Macedonia go on the offensive and liberate most of Kosovo. Although Serbia expands at the end of the war, Kosovo unites with Albania and Turkey increases its economic influence in the Balkans. Meanwhile, through a referendum held in 2032, Northern Ireland joins Ireland. Scotland declares its independence from the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom dissolves and leaves its place to the Kingdom of England.

2033-2040: The events in Belarus and the Balkans lead to a realization of the EMO's importance. Most European countries join the EMO, increasing their defense spending and beginning to prepare for a potential war against Russia. In Russia, Vladimir Putin passes away and leaves his place to Mikhail Alexandrov, a more radical and nationalist figure. Just like the Europeans, Russia begins arming itself and preparing for a potential European war.

What if Germany won WW2- Wait, what?

That's a double-what if scenario about Germany winning both WW1 and WW2. By 1950, Europe's divided into 3 sides: Communist Britain, resisting to German domination with poverty and low morale, Imperial Germany and its Allies (Reichspakt), controlling nearly all of Europe with military and economy, and the fell nations (like Serbia, Greece and Russia), the nations which have weak economies and armies, has no people support and non-alligned. But the national interests of Reichspakt members start to conflict. Such as the Ottomans want to crush Bulgaria and expand to Balkans throught Albania, while the Danubia wants to protect Bulgaria and integrating Serbia. Also the puppet state of Germany in Eastern Europe wants to become independent. This small problems are making the Reichspakt collapsing. One day, the world will face a 3 or 4 party Cold War. Upvote for the continuation.

What if the Reichspakt Lost WW2?

You all know Reichspakt won the Zweiten Weltkrieg in our universe. But today I wondered and thought what would happen if they lost. I don't believe that both International and Entente can win a total victory, so i thought the Europe would be divided to 2 parts, one is socialist and leftist, while the other one is liberal and right. I also think that Germans can't lose the war while they have strong allies like Danubian Federation, Bulgaria Tsardom and Ottoman Empire. So I imagined that they lost in the regional wars they join (Danube War, Third Balkan War and War of the Desert). Without their Allies, the Germans would be alone and losing the war would be inevitable. I also believe there would be puppet states around all of Europe, maybe Germany would be divided into 2 states. Or there will be Socialist Switzerland, because Germans lost the war, so there are nobody to protect them against French. I know, this is to unrealistic. But creating scenarios about the situations that never happened is really difficult. Thanks to the Reichspakt, we don't have a world like this.

What if Russia Lost 1877-78 Russo-Turkish War?

The Post About Ottomans

The Danube Disaster and the Collapse of the Tsardom

In the final months of 1877, the humiliating defeats suffered before Plevna and the subsequent chaotic retreat sent shockwaves through St. Petersburg. As the Ottoman army advanced as far as Moldavia, the Tsardom was forced to its knees, compelled to sign the Treaty of Constantinople on July 13, 1878. This treaty marked not only a military catastrophe for Russia but also the beginning of its geographical fragmentation. With Bessarabia—the gateway to the Black Sea—ceded to the Ottoman Empire, the staggering economic burden of the war combined with a massive indemnity completely bankrupted the Tsarist treasury.

Capitalizing on this vulnerability and backed by Western support, the imperial subjects rose in rebellion. Along the empire's western border, Poland, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia revolted against the central government, wrenching away broad autonomy. Russia was left a battered giant: geographically isolated from the Europe to which it had long turned its face, imprisoned within the Black Sea, and its borders pushed back to the fringes of the Baltic coast.

Revolution at the Winter Palace: The Rise of the Narodniks

The collapse of the economy, the shutting down of factories, and the chaos wrought by millions of angry, disabled veterans returning from the front lines sealed the fate of the Tsarist regime. Organized underground for years, the Narodniks—a populist and socialist-revolutionary faction—masterfully navigated this moment of collective social madness. Securing the backing of university youth and dissident, peasant-born officers within the military, the Narodnik movement paralyzed St. Petersburg and Moscow with massive strikes. Fearing an all-out civil war and the total annihilation of his dynasty, Tsar Alexander II surrendered his absolute powers to preserve his crown as a figurehead. Russia transformed into a fragile constitutional monarchy, governed by a parliament (Duma) controlled by radical revolutionaries.

However, this forced compromise was short-lived. The Narodnik government, attempting to modernize the country into an agrarian socialism centered around peasant communes known as the "Mir," clashed incessantly with the Tsarist bureaucracy. Upon discovering that Alexander II was covertly plotting with conservative landowners to reclaim his absolute power, radical Narodnik cells (Narodnaya Volya) assassinated him in 1881 with a bomb attack. The newly crowned Alexander III ascended the throne as a virtually powerless "window-dressing tsar," ruling under the strict surveillance of the parliament and the Narodnik government. Yet, when the new tsar also attempted to oust the Narodniks from power, they deposed him, executed the royal family by firing squad, and abolished the monarchy entirely. Russia was now a wounded but vengefully passionate revolutionary republic. Furthermore, abandoning the title of the Russian Empire, the country was renamed the Russian Socialist Republic, adopting a brand-new national flag. These events triggered massive public protests that verged on civil war, but the armed operatives of Narodnaya Volya dispersed the demonstrators and bloodily suppressed the unrest.

Heavy Industrialization and Radical Modernization

By 1886, cast in the shadow of assassination and internal turmoil, Russia launched a radical modernization program. The Narodnik government implemented draconian measures to close the fiscal deficit caused by the indemnities paid to the Ottomans and to erase the military humiliation felt before the West. Church lands and the estates of the old aristocracy were seized and nationalized. The Narodnik doctrine of "Going to the People" manifested as collective farming campaigns in the countryside, while massive iron-steel works and armament factories sprouted across the Urals and along the Siberian lines.

To avoid losing the autonomous Polish and Baltic territories entirely, Russia attempted to forge new economic bridges with them; however, beneath the surface, it pursued a covert policy of "Russification" and militarism to suppress separatist elements in those regions. The objective was singular: to drive the Russian peasantry into the factories, rearm the military with modern rifles and heavy artillery, and forge a massive military machine capable of avenging their lost lands. Forged in the discipline of peasant communes and revolutionary zeal, Russian society was acquiring a completely new national identity.

The Triple Entente Negotiations

Faced with the steadily strengthening and increasingly organized bloc of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire, Russia entered into negotiations with the Western powers of Britain and France to forge an alliance for revenge. However, the tumultuous events of recent years and Russia's steady shift toward an increasingly left-wing structure caused these talks to fail. While the United Kingdom and France drew closer to each other, Russia was left locked out—diplomatically isolated, economically starved, and militarily and socially boiling with rage in recent times.

What if the Ottoman Empire won 1877-78 Russo-Turkish War?

Point of Divergence: In the final months of 1877, the Ottoman Army mounts a heroic defense at Plevna, repeatedly defeating the Russian forces and inflicting nearly 200,000 casualties. The military genius of Osman Pasha, combined with the superhuman endurance of his soldiers, completely drains the Russian army both logistically and morally. Not content with merely breaking the siege, the Ottoman forces leverage their moral superiority to launch a swift and merciless counter-offensive. As the Russian troops retreat in panic north of the Danube River, the Ottoman army makes a historic move, reclaiming Romania and advancing into the plains of Moldavia.

The shockwaves of this defeat echo in St. Petersburg, forcing the Tsarist court to its knees. With the "Treaty of Constantinople" signed on July 13, 1878, the Ottoman Empire not only preserves its existing territories but also deals a fatal blow to Russian dominance in the Black Sea by annexing Bessarabia. Most importantly, the massive war indemnity paid by Russia serves as a lifeline, liberating Ottoman finances from the suffocating grip of foreign debts. However, this victory reignites the centuries-old anti-Turk and anti-Islamic sentiment dormant in Western public opinion; the European press begins portraying the Ottoman Empire as a "growing threat that must be put in its place."

Turmoil in St. Petersburg and the Silent War in Istanbul

In Russia, this humiliating defeat triggers a massive social explosion. The misery of the peasantry and the anger of veterans returning from the front lines are masterfully channeled by the Narodniks—an intellectual and radical revolutionary movement. Securing the defection of several dissident officers within the army, the Narodniks paralyze the capital with protests, cornering Tsar Alexander II. Known for his radical reformist tendencies and fearing an all-out civil war, Alexander II surrenders his absolute powers to save his crown, signing the decree that transforms Russia into a constitutional monarchy. Russia morphs into a fragile state, desperately trying to heal its internal wounds.

Meanwhile, in Istanbul, a silent but far more dangerous war rages within the corridors of the newly resplendent state. Grand Vizier Ahmet Mithat Pasha, the logistical and political architect of the victory, has become a national hero in the eyes of the public. Confined to the Yıldız Palace, Sultan Abdulhamid II endures a deep existential anxiety. Having witnessed the dethronement of his uncle Abdülaziz and his brother Murad, he deeply fears Mithat Pasha’s reformist cadres and constantly looks for an opportunity to dismiss them. Yet, due to the Pasha’s immense influence over the public and the army, the Sultan cannot touch him, living almost like a hostage in his own palace. Abdulhamid begins building a sinister intelligence network and rallying the conservative ulema, waiting for the day he can reclaim his absolute power. He appoints loyal commanders to most imperial provinces, integrates Turkic-Islamic culture into the school curriculum to raise new generations sympathetic to his ideology, and gradually isolates Mithat Pasha by purging officers close to him.

The First Multi-Party Ottoman Elections

The year 1886 becomes the greatest milestone in modern Ottoman history. With the establishment of new political factions, a historic multi-party election takes place with around ten parties competing. The "Hürriyet-i Osmani Fırkası" (Ottoman Freedom Party), led by Mithat Pasha, secures votes from all corners of the Empire, entering parliament with an overwhelming 65% majority. However, Mithat Pasha, a Turk himself, is unsettled to see that more than half of the parliament consists of ethnic minorities, making him realize that urgent electoral reforms are necessary. Although he initiates legislation to restructure the system, this process is abruptly cut short due to escalating developments in the Aegean Sea.

The Calm Before the Storm

By 1890, global geopolitics have fundamentally shifted. The existence of a strengthening, debt-free, and rapidly industrializing Turkic-Islamic power horrifies Great Britain and France. Particularly Britain, seeing the Suez Canal and the crucial trade routes to India directly threatened, casts aside its historic animosity toward Russia. A covert rapprochement begins between London, Paris, and Constitutional Russia. Their objective is clear: encircle the Ottoman Empire militarily and economically from the outside, while covertly funding nationalist rebellions from within.

Indeed, the Cretan Revolt of 1889, ignited with the backing of British intelligence, serves as a litmus test for the new Ottoman strength. However, the Western powers do not encounter the hollow, sluggish empire of old. The newly modernized Ottoman navy, highly organized through a dense network of telegraph lines established by Mithat Pasha, swiftly blockades the island and decisively crushes the rebellion. In response, Western media orchestrates a massive propaganda campaign, branding the intervention as a massacre. As the final months of 1890 approach, the global stage is divided into two colossal blocs: On one side stand Great Britain, France, and a constitutional Russia burning for revenge; on the other, the industrializing Ottoman Empire and its staunch military ally, Germany. Internally, Mithat Pasha has grown old but maintains his tight grip on parliament. Meanwhile, Sultan Abdulhamid is putting the final touches on a counter-coup, plotting alongside his loyal "Alaylı" (traditionally trained) officers to dissolve the assembly. As the echoes of new-model rifles resound across the borderlines, the world stands on the precipice of a much earlier, and far more devastating, Great War.
