Subreddits for promoting UK grassroots punk / pop-punk gigs?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to find the right UK-based subreddits for sharing small grassroots live music events.

I’m involved in putting on a charity pop-punk / punk all-dayer in Southampton, and I’m trying to reach people who are actually into local gigs, DIY music scenes, punk, pop-punk, ska-punk, emo, alt-rock and similar stuff.

I don’t want to spam the wrong places, so I’m mainly looking for subreddits where it’s acceptable to post about:

UK live music events
Grassroots gigs
Punk / pop-punk / ska-punk
South Coast music scenes
Charity gigs
Independent bands and promoters

So far I’ve found things like r/UKPunk and local city subreddits, but I’d love to know if there are better places for this kind of thing.

Any recommendations would be really appreciated.

Cheers,
Sam

Pop Punk Palooza charity all-dayer in Southampton this Saturday

Hope this is okay to share here.

I posted yesterday asking about South Coast punk, pop-punk and ska-punk bands, and a few people were really helpful, so I thought I’d share the actual event I mentioned.

I’m helping put on Pop Punk Palooza at Heartbreakers in Southampton this Saturday 4th July, raising money for Dreamflight, a charity that takes children with serious illnesses and disabilities on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Orlando.

It’s a full grassroots pop-punk / punk / alt all-dayer with 9 bands playing:

We Know John
Everyone Lies
Wide Awake Club
Lucky Hit
Stickerbook
Industry Plant
Junk Season
Save Our Ships
Halfway Home

It should be a really fun day if you’re into bands like Blink-182, Green Day, Sum 41, New Found Glory, Zebrahead, ska-punk, emo, alt-rock or just loud DIY guitar music in general.

The honest bit is that advance ticket sales really matter. These kinds of grassroots shows are hard to make happen, especially when it’s a charity fundraiser, and buying in advance is what gives the event the best chance of going ahead properly.

So if you’re anywhere near Southampton, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Hampshire, Sussex or along the South Coast and fancy a proper pop-punk all-dayer, come down and support it.

And if you can’t make it but know someone who might be into it, tagging them or sending it their way would genuinely help a lot.

I’ll put the event / ticket link in the comments.

Cheers,
Sam

Any Bournemouth pop-punk / punk fans fancy a South Coast charity all-dayer?

Hope this is okay to post here.

I’m trying to reach more South Coast people who are into small live music, especially punk, pop-punk, emo, ska-punk and alternative bands.

There’s a charity all-dayer happening at Heartbreakers in Southampton on Saturday 4th July called Pop Punk Palooza, raising money for Dreamflight, a charity that supports children with serious illnesses and disabilities.

It’s got 9 grassroots bands playing across the day, all giving their time for the fundraiser, and it should be a really fun one if you’re into bands like Blink-182, Green Day, Sum 41, New Found Glory, Zebrahead or UK pop-punk in general.

I know it’s not Bournemouth itself, but it’s still South Coast and I’m hoping there might be a few people here who travel for gigs or know people who would be into it.

The honest bit is that advance ticket sales really matter for grassroots events like this. Buying on the door is lovely, but advance tickets are what help show the venue that the event is worth going ahead with.

So if this sounds like your thing, or you know someone who still loves proper small live music, please give them a tag or send it their way.

Brighton / Sussex punk fans, where do you find South Coast gigs?

Hope this is okay to ask here.

I’m trying to get a better sense of where people around Brighton, Sussex and the South Coast actually find out about punk, pop-punk, ska-punk, emo, hardcore and alternative gigs.

I’m involved in putting on a charity pop-punk / punk / ska-punk all-dayer over in Southampton called Pop Punk Palooza, and it’s made me realise there are probably loads of bands, promoters, venues and little scene pockets I’ve completely missed.

Are there any Brighton/Sussex/South Coast promoters, venues, Insta pages, radio shows, Facebook groups, WhatsApp groups or bands that are worth following?

Also, who are the local punk / pop-punk / ska-punk / alt bands people should be checking out?

Cheers,
Sam

South Coast punk / pop-punk / ska-punk bands worth checking out?

Hope this is okay to ask here.

I’m trying to dig a bit deeper into the South Coast punk, pop-punk, ska-punk and alt scene, especially around Southampton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, Sussex and Bournemouth.

I’m involved in putting on a charity all-dayer in Southampton called Pop Punk Palooza, and it’s made me realise there are probably loads of bands, promoters and little scene pockets I’ve completely missed.

Would love to know who people recommend checking out.

Bands, promoters, venues, radio shows, Insta pages, Facebook groups, anything really.

Especially anything in the world of punk, pop-punk, ska-punk, emo, alt-rock, hardcore-adjacent stuff or DIY gigs.

A few bands on the day are Stickerbook, Junk Season, Save Our Ships, Everyone Lies, Lucky Hit, Wide Awake Club, Halfway Home, Industry Plant and my band We Know John, but I’d love to discover more around this scene too.

Cheers,
Sam

UK pop-punk fans near Southampton, charity all-dayer with 9 bands on 4th July

Any UK pop-punk fans near Southampton?

I’m putting on a charity all-dayer at Heartbreakers on Saturday 4th July called Pop Punk Palooza, raising money for Dreamflight.

It’s 9 bands across the day, mostly pop-punk, punk, ska-punk and alt-rock. Think local scene, singalong choruses, horns, sweaty room, lots of bands, all for a good cause.

Line-up:

We Know John
Everyone Lies
Wide Awake Club
Lucky Hit
Stickerbook
Industry Plant
Junk Season
Save Our Ships
Halfway Home

Tickets are £15 in advance: www.poppunkpalooza.co.uk

I know this is a global sub, but thought there might be a few south coast / Hampshire / UK people in here who’d be into it. Would be lovely to see some pop-punk fans come out for it.

Cheers,
Sam

Where do people talk about punk and pop-punk gigs around Portsmouth?

Hope this is okay to ask here.

I’m trying to find where people around Portsmouth and the south coast actually talk about local punk, pop-punk, ska-punk and alternative gigs.

I’m involved in putting on a charity all-dayer called Pop Punk Palooza at Heartbreakers in Southampton, with a bunch of local pop-punk, punk and ska-punk bands raising money for Dreamflight, and it’s made me realise how hard it is to reach people who still love grassroots live music without it just disappearing into the void on Facebook and Instagram.

Are there any Portsmouth/South Coast bands, promoters, pages, venues, radio shows, WhatsApp groups, Facebook groups or Insta accounts that are worth following?

I’m especially looking for stuff around punk, pop-punk, ska-punk, emo, alt-rock and DIY gigs.

Also, are there any Portsmouth bands people would recommend checking out?

Cheers,
Sam

Student-friendly pop-punk / alt charity all-dayer at Heartbreakers on 4th July

Hope this is alright to share here.

I’m putting on a charity all-dayer at Heartbreakers on Saturday 4th July called Pop Punk Palooza.

It’s 9 bands across the day, mostly pop-punk, punk, ska-punk and alt-rock. Very much for anyone who likes Blink, Green Day, Sum 41, New Found Glory, Zebrahead, local bands, noisy guitars, singalong choruses and that sort of thing.

Bands playing:

We Know John
Everyone Lies
Wide Awake Club
Lucky Hit
Stickerbook
Industry Plant
Junk Season
Save Our Ships
Halfway Home

It’s raising money for Dreamflight, which is a brilliant charity that takes children with serious illnesses or disabilities on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Orlando.

Tickets are £15 in advance: www.poppunkpalooza.co.uk

If you’re still around Southampton over summer and fancy a proper local gig day at Heartbreakers, come along. Would also really appreciate anyone sharing it with mates who are into rock/alternative music.

Thanks,
Sam

Hampshire pop-punk / punk bands worth checking out?

Hope this is okay to ask here.

I’m trying to connect a bit more with people around Hampshire who are into local punk, pop-punk, ska-punk and alt-rock.

I’m involved in a charity all-dayer at Heartbreakers in Southampton on Saturday 4th July called Pop Punk Palooza, raising money for Dreamflight, and it’s made me realise how hard it is to actually reach people who still love local live music.

There are 9 bands on the day:

We Know John
Everyone Lies
Wide Awake Club
Lucky Hit
Stickerbook
Industry Plant
Junk Season
Save Our Ships
Halfway Home

If anyone here is into that sort of scene, or knows any good Hampshire/South Coast music groups, promoters, pages, radio shows, Instagram accounts or communities where people actually talk about local gigs, I’d really appreciate any pointers.

Also if any of those bands are already on your radar, let me know who I should be checking out more properly.

Cheers,
Sam

Southampton, I've organised a charity pop punk all dayer next Saturday!

Hi everyone!

I thought I'd share something I've been working on over the last few months.

Next Saturday (4th July) I'm putting on a charity music event called Pop Punk Palooza at Heartbreakers.

It's a full day of live music with nine bands from across the South, all raising money for Dreamflight, an amazing charity that gives seriously ill and disabled children the holiday of a lifetime.

I've been lucky enough to volunteer with Dreamflight for the last three years, so this event is something that's really close to my heart. I wanted to combine my love of live music with raising as much money as possible for a fantastic cause.

The lineup is:

• Industry Plant
• Halfway Home
• Everyone Lies
• Lucky Hit
• Save Our Ships
• Junk Season
• Wide Awake Club
• Stickerbook
• We Know John

We'll also have acoustic music between sets, a charity raffle with prizes donated by local businesses, and plenty going on throughout the day.

I'll be honest, ticket sales have been slower than I'd hoped, so if you're looking for something to do next Saturday, I'd absolutely love to see a few Redditors there.

Even if it's not your kind of music, a comment or an upvote to help more local people see this would genuinely mean a lot.

Thanks everyone ❤️
