Safe areas to live in Winnipeg

Hello guys! I don’t know if this is the right place to ask this question: what are some safe areas or neighbourhoods to live in Winnipeg. I’m moving there next month and all I know is that Winnipeg’s downtown is notoriously dangerous and one should avoid living there at all costs. Locals please give some suggestions!

Planning to go to corrections

Hello guys, I’ll get my class 5 license by February 2027 and I’m thinking of getting into corrections. I still have 6-7 months with me to gain some experience or skills that can make me an ideal candidate. I have a BA in criminology (from SFU), have 2 year work experience in crisis line, 1 year work experience in McDonald’s, 150+ volunteer hours from Surrey crime prevention society and 100 hours from Efry. I can speak 3 languages other than English and have first aid cpr, non crisis intervention certificate and ubc certificate for indigenous knowlege. What should else should I do to strengthen my application. Where should I volunteer or work to make me shine out during hiring process. Please provide some guidance

Feeling lost

Hello guys, I’ll be graduation with a crim degree from SFU and have no idea what to do. I’m moving to Winnipeg (a city known for crime) and i won’t get my full driving licence till February 2027. I have no idea where life is taking me. I won’t have anyone wherever I go and I’ll be on my own. I have no direction whatsoever and I’m feeling like I’m in a never ending maze. I’m kind of feeling that maybe I shouldn’t have pursued criminology. I’m thinking of volunteering in some organization to strengthen my application and actively looking for jobs related to my field. Is this feeling of uncertainty common? I’m overwhelmed. Guys please provide some advice or guidance.

Graduation ceremony advice

Hello guys! My graduation ceremony would take place on October 2026 and was wondering if one does not attend their graduation ceremony, do they regret later on? In my situation, I moved to another province, have no one who can come with me to the ceremony and I’m recently realizing that my degree (crim) isn’t that worth it. Please provide me advice guys. I’m planning to just pick up my certificate later on from the campus. Am I missing something or should I pass this without regrets.

Desperate need of research volunteer opportunities in Edmonton

Hello guys! I just graduated from university and I’m thinking of pursuing clinical psychology. From what I’m hearing is that research experience is highly valued in these types of applications. Does anyone know where can I find such research related opportunities in Edmonton. I’m literally ready to do anything to get into some sort of research related position. I know job market is competitive right now that’s why I’m looking for volunteer position. I’m moving to Edmonton, and I don’t know the city yet and where should I look into to get my foot into the door.
What else should I do to make my application stand out. My gpa is 3.6, I have a crisis line work experience and had volunteered in Efry and Surrey crime prevention society. Any advice would be highly appreciated. I’m also thinking of volunteering with AdaptAbilities where I can gain some experience with disabled kids.

Sfu crim graduate looking for advice for masters.

Hello guys! I would be graduating this October with a crim degree (3.60 gpa). I got into university of Edinburgh criminology masters program, but I decided to apply for clinical and health psychology masters at Edinburgh this year for 2027. I’m reconsidering my crim masters offer because many people say that crim masters is a waste of time and money. I don’t have a plan for what I really want to do. I’m just exploring options and volunteering here and there to gain some experience and find my passion.

  1. So, is it a good idea not to crim masters and pursue clinical and health psychology at Edinburgh. Also, I’m looking for some research experience to make my application stronger, but since I’ll be graduating this October, research opportunities from Sfu would not be possible. Is there any other avenue to get access to research related volunteer opportunities.

2)What should I do to make my application stronger or is it even worth to pursue masters at all.

I feel like getting into masters program in Canada is way too competitive, that’s why I applied to universities in uk. Becoming a cop or a correctional officer is a last option for me due to the nature of the job. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
