Do you <3 the Monster?

I was exposed to the Toxic Avenger (1984) back in elementary school during a late night marathon. The tale of Melvin's metamorphosis into the titular character exhibits great effects & quirky characters that deliver good 80s schlock. What are your thoughts? Is it the best Troma film in your opinion?

TCM 2, my favorite Leatherface film

I actually saw this before the original and instantly loved it. From the quirky dark humor to the grotesque set pieces, it delivers most of what I love about 80s horror. My favorite character is the Cook played by Jim Siedow & enjoyed his sendout with the "FU Charlie." It's a must own feature & earns every rewatch it can get.

Any fans of John Carradine?

I probably saw him 1st in the 1995 Halloween schlock fest, Jack-O. Throughout the years, I've enjoyed other low budget gems of his such as The Monster Club and Billy the Kid vs. Dracula, which is one of my favorites. By his death, he acted in over 300 films. So, what are some of your favorites by Carradine? Keep it schlocky!

The Vineyard (1989)

This gem stars James Hong (Lo Pan himself) as an ancient alchemist who steals the essence from youth to stay young. Overall, it's a good cheesey time & I was happy to see the Dunsmuir House (Phantasm, 1979) being used as the estate. There are random zombies for reasons to spice things up. It's worth checking out if you like 80s schlock, James Hong or wine with your horror.

Morterok's Quick Cuts

I've dabbled with doing random (brief) reviews of my favorite schlocky 80s & 90s flicks. Just getting it going but it's fun so far. Also, would be open to ideas.

Piranha Women (2022)

If anything, this film delivers what it promises. I've been digging through Fred Olen Ray flicks & felt the need to check this out. I was not disappointed despite having questions best left unanswered by the end of the movie's 57 minute runtime. There's cheesey acting (love the detective scenes), gorey killings, chompy boobs and a bartender with DILAGAF vibes. It's worth a watch if you dig the schlock.

Alienator (1990)

In my trip on building up my exposure to Fred Olen Ray features, I checked out this sci fi flick from '90. If you ever wanted to see what a killer American Gladiator stalker film would be like, this one's for you. Despite lacking the levels of gore and flesh of a typical Fred Olen Ray production, it was a decent film. Apart from the Snu Snu terminator, I was happy to see P.J. Soles (Halloween), John Henry Richardson (Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers) and Joseph Pilato (Day of the Dead) in the cast. There are worse ways to spend an afternoon and I think I'll be running with this theme by checking out Star Slammer (1986).

Demonwarp (1988)

What a delightful mess of a film! Starring George Kennedy who worked 3 days on the production and walked away $15k richer, this 80s flick delivers crazy. Bigfoot, zombies, aliens and boobs... nuff said for a Tubi afternoon. The keen observer will also spot Michelle Bauer who graced several other 80s light night gems. I'd definitely recommend to fellow late night schlock connoisseurs.

The Town that Dreaded Sundown (1976)

Just finished this slasher from '76 and happy to have done so. It felt like it was trying to be other things besides horror. When the killer has his scenes, it's a really good slasher film however, the police investigation included some decent comedy, especially with "Sparkplug." Overall, I enjoyed both moods and couldn't help but feel this influenced Jason's design in Friday the 13th Part 2.

976-Evil (1988)

Directed by Robert Englund & starring Stephen Geoffreys (Evil Ed from Fright Night) this gem is an 80s delight. There's a tremendous amount of nostalgia with the plot line being centered upon a hotline. It exhibits a bit of corny with the uber religious mother and high school bullies while giving a good bit of supernatural Faustian horror. The cats in the film don't particularly fare well but it's worth a late night viewing for those craving 80s horror.

Screamboat (2025)

This was a much better film than I predicted. Starring David Howard Thorton as Steamboat Willie, this gem features nice practical gore, laughs and even Q from Impractical Jokers. I loved the drunken Disney princesses, corny references and the b horror elements of dark humor and dismembered body parts (penis included). This was certainly worth an evening viewing.

This was a great nature film featuring a deformed gypsy slasher. I felt it could've had more kills; however, I enjoyed the atmosphere. There are many shots of animals frolicking about the woods. It does have Jackie Coogan (Uncle Fester from the classic Addams Family) as a park ranger, which is a plus for me. If you love summer/wilderness horror like "In a Violent Nature," this 80s flick may be worth a watch. So grab a Coors, a Banjo and a Cucumber/Cream cheese sandwich and enjoy.

What the hell did I just watch? This features Melinda Clark (Return of the Living Dead 3) and the cool premise of a nun getting infected by a monstrous alien, which is manifested as a murderous tongue. Robert Englund even plays in this as a villainous prison director. This is a fever dream I managed to miss back when. It has some decent body horror and some qualities that make it a late night treat.
