Almost every character is more boring as a gun character

A pure gun character is the most boring thing in the game, to play and to fight against. They all play more or less the same, it feels like- point and shoot. Every single time a character gets turned into a gun character it feels like they lose so much of what makes them interesting. Just look at Victor, or Lash, or Bebop. Maybe it's just personal preference, but I have so much more *fun* when it comes to spirit characters.

They're also more dynamic to play against. Fighting a gun character? Buy metal skin, maybe plated if they're really an issue.

Fighting a spirit character? Well, spirit resil is also a good start, but for more acrobatic ones slowing hex can be good, and spellbreaker works against burst, etc. Bullet is so much less interesting to itemize for.

I do think there are some interesting M1 characters, but imo they work best when they're hybrid, like non dash infernus, or wraith. Those also tend to be more interesting to itemize against (can buy dispel magic for instance instead of just metal skin).

After almost 500 hours in the game, I finally did it... I finished a run!

For years I've played this game and been able to get past midgame at best, with most runs ending around 100 years. I always found war tedious and managing a shit ton of planets to be a massive inconvenience. Now, though, I've finally made it! Made my way to my first endgame crisis (Cetana) and defeated her once and for all.

A few things helped me, I think. Firstly, biogenesis. Getting chimeral consciousness from the evolution tree made managing worlds fun again (all hive worlds made it a blast). The new planet management and economy changes felt really good too. 4.0 as a whole and 4.3 especially finally gave me the motivation, I think.

My fleet after defeating Cetana

I have to say, as boring as midgame was, getting through it was so worth it. Going from seeing a Fallen Empire awaken for the first time, to seeing them subsequently destroyed by Cetana, was super cool, and I enjoyed the gameplay of raiding her and stealing her dark matter tech to buff my ships.

I didn't get into a single war this game, and that was very much for the better. Claiming too much territory is annoying, though maybe that's my next hurdle. Anyways, love this game, and I'm so happy to have finally 'beaten' it!
