26M | The Egyptians believed…that finding a partner on Reddit makes a great story

Not giving in to the traditional rishta process so hopefully this works out this time. Otherwise, it’s time to go out and touch grass and disappear to a farm in hunza!

I’m a 26 year old guy, 5’10, and on the thin/lean side. I like to stay active and am trying to keep health as a primary goal for this year 🏃

Born and raised in Islamabad, living in Pindi side currently and in a joint family system!

A bit about my personality:
Hmm, still not sure how one describes themselves in just a few paragraphs because there’s so to every human out there! INFJ-A according to that online quiz, amazing according to my siblings. All together solid 4.8/5 if I was a uber rating.

On a serious note, I like depth in conversations as much as I like random yap. Philosophy, history, random thoughts(why water is blue why¿ pyramid big, how?), movies, art, any and everything is can be interesting to talk about as long as everyone involved is willing to listen.

I love creating memories and spending quality time. Some days its playing some sports, other days its yapping and board game night, or just chilling at home. I try to get out of my comfort zone whenever I can, especially to gain new experiences. This can be in different forms like trying new type of dish(even though I’m not a foodie), walking around in a new area, traveling, building a new lego set.

I am an introvert at heart I think, but I have learnt communication skills over the years so I can come off as an extrovert. Love learning and growing as much as I can!

I take my time to think, and sometimes overthink but never one to shy off from difficult conversations as long as it’s necessary and has useful outcome. However…. if your words hurt someone deeply, it’s better to let it go and not say it even if it’s the truth.

Other than this, I think about digital issues and ethics every now and then. Not daily but sometimes I’ll do a quick read on AI trend and how they’ll impact users, to how marketing can psychologically impact behaviour, etc. I like content creation as well, and the thought of inspiring people through storytelling really makes me happy so I keep an eye on artsy trends and related content. Other than this I enjoy a good walk, driving around in nice weather.

Religious views:
I’d like to think I’m in the middle. I’m liberal in some aspects and conservative in others. The classic paradox some of us feel. I listen to music, watch movies, and have all types of friends.

At the same time, I don’t smoke/drink, lie, don’t believe in mixing culture with religion. I pray 5 times a day, however, I do struggle with the timing, especially Fajr, and hope to get better at it!

Over the past 5 years, series of events have made religion an important aspect in my life, and it guides me in a lot of aspects like career planning, patience, risk taking etc. However, it’s honestly no credit toward me that I started wanting to be better at this but rather a blessing that I was lucky enough to receive alhamdullilah. I’m anywhere close to being the best/perfect Muslim, however, it’s close to my heart and I would love to strive to be better Muslim with my partner.

Career and goals:
My great friends overthinking, procrastination and high ambition are currently paving the path to where I should go.

The short term goal is to acquire as much knowledge as I can through jobs, online sources, and build a network. After which I’d like to start something of my own for a bunch of reasons!

Currently I’m in media/tech on the analysis and product side. In the long term(1-2 years) a PhD, content creation, and a few other ideas are on the plate. As things pan out, I’ll hopefully have more clarity by end of this year Insha Allah!

What I’m looking for:
Communication is a huge deal to me. Every marriage has challenging times, however, mutual respect and boundaries should never be crossed. It should always be a ‘us against problem’ mindset, and this mindset works best when you’re willing to talk and hear each other out

I think of myself as someone who listens very intently when it comes to the people I care, especially in moments of seriousness, so I end up remembering lots of things that people often forget. It’ll be great to have a partner who has the same level of attention to detail and support too!

No one is perfect and I’m sure I have my fair share of flaws or things someone may find annoying, however, marriage to me is not about finding someone who can fix you or give you something you lack. I see it like a partnership where two individuals who are doing well on their own and can take care of themselves alone but choose to come together and go on the journey of life together.

“And then we get to choose who we let into our weird little worlds”, you’re absolutely goated if you know which movie this is from

Dealbreaker:
- Anyone who does not want anything to do with religion or thinks they are better because they are religious
- vaping, abusive language, or rudeness to strangers
- Inability to initiate conversations at all or keep the conversation flowing
- Not paying attention to the people you love.
- if you hate adventure or are lazy in your approach to life
-since I’m a bit skeptical about Reddit, someone close to Islamabad/lahore area would make it easy to manage logistically

I have a provider mindset, however, in this economy I unfortunately can’t retire at 26 or go on that euro trip every month. For me, it’s a matter of when, not how Insha Allah! But regardless, thought I’d mention this as it can be a deal breaker for some and that’s completely fair!

Timeline:
Also I’m not in a rush, I’d like to get to know the person and take it slow because there’s too many bad stories out there

Thank you so much for attending my ted talk! If you think we’d be compatible, feel free to DM me with details about yourself and please don’t send one line. I’d appreciate a summary with enough details so that we can talk more on our values, perspectives, and thoughts!

Best countries for socio technical PhD ?

Hi everyone, I’ve been thinking a lot about a PhD and wanted to evaluate by getting people’s opinion.

Profile: I have a bachelors in management, and MSc in innovation and analytics. I’m currently working and have around a year of experience.

Interest: Even before the AI hype, I used to think a lot about impact of technology on human, and this curiosity has not dimmed down over the years. So I want to research into how this domain. Topics like Consumer surveillance, Digital platform manipulation and user cost, User data protection and behaviour, etc etc

Goal: I don’t see myself working in academia, although it’s not a dealbreaker. But I would love to establish myself as a credible source of information and build that trust, which would make me an independent consultant maybe. I hope the vision makes sense

My questions are:

- what would be the best countries for these sort of topics? I understand supervisor matters the most but I’d like to know the best countries in general for this field

- do you think a PhD should only be if I want to go into academia ?

- is my topic scope going to be too niche ?

- could a second masters by useful instead ? If so, where could I get a fully funded option ?

Any suggestion and feedback is welcome so feel free to share your opinion

26M | The odds of finding a partner on Reddit are low, but never zero 🫵

I posted around 2/3 weeks ago for the first time and it was a learning curve, hence, I’m back with more clarity this time

About me:

26 year old guy, born and raised in Islamabad, living in Pindi side currently. In a joint family system atm!

I’m 5’10, and on the thin/lean side. I like to stay active and am trying to keep health as a primary goal for this year 🏃

- Love gaining new experiences. Whether it’s trying a new type of dish(even though I’m not a foodie), walking around in a new area, traveling, building a new lego set, or a spontaneous sensible trip, you can count me in!

- Over the past few years, I’ve loved diving into digital issues related to ethics, user autonomy, privacy. I like content creation as well, and the thought of inspiring people through storytelling really makes me happy so I keep an eye on artsy trends and related content. I’ve tried spoken word, animation, and photography as hobbies in the past

It’s time to give Tom and zendaya some competition!

The odds of finding your life partner on Reddit are low, but never zero, so here I am 🤣!

26 year old guy, born and raised in Islamabad. I’m 5’10, like to eat as healthy and stay active as I can. Recently started working after a long gap because I shifted back home after a few years.

Things I like doing:
- I love spending quality time with friends and family whether playing some sports, gaming, or just chilling at home.

- Love gaining new experiences. Whether it’s a new type of dish(even though I’m not a foodie), walking around in a new area, traveling, or building a new lego set, you can count me in!

- Over past years, I’ve loved diving into digital issues related to ethics, user autonomy, privacy. I like content creation as well, and something about the thought of inspiring people through storytelling really makes me happy so I keep an eye on artsy trends and related content.

Personality:
Hmm, not sure how one describes themselves in just a few paragraphs because there’s so to every human out there! INFJ according to that online quiz, amazing according to my siblings. All together solid 4.8/5 if I was a uber rating.

But on a serious note, I like depth in conversations as much as I like random yap about philosophy, history, why water is blue, movies, art, etc. I am an introvert at heart I think, but I have learnt communication skills over the years so I can come off as an extrovert. Love learning and growing as much as I can, and sometimes I go into a rabbit hole of the most random thoughts in my head like ice age cold, how¿ pyramid big, how?.

I take my time to think, and sometimes overthink but never one to shy off from difficult conversations as long as it’s necessary and has useful outcome. But…. if your words hurt someone deeply, it’s better to let it go and not say it even if it’s the truth.

Religious views:
I’d like to think I’m balanced. I’m liberal in some aspects and conservative in others. The classic paradox some of us feel.

I pray 5 times a day, however, I do struggle with the timing, and hope to get better at it! I truly believe that giving something in the way of Allah never reduces your it from your end whether it’s finances or whatever, so I try to do that as much as I can

Over the past 5 years, series of events have made religion an important aspect in my life, and it guides me in a lot of aspects like career planning, patience, etc. However, it’s honestly no credit toward me that I started wanting to be better at this but rather a blessing that I was lucky enough to receive alhamdullilah.

Career and goals:
Quarter life crisis atm, so bear with me! My great friends called overthinking, procrastination and high ambition are currently paving the path to where I should go.

However, the short term goal is to acquire as much knowledge as I can through jobs etc and then start something of my own, not for the money particularly but rather various other reasons too! Currently I’m in media or tech, but not sure yet.

What I’m looking for:
Communication is a huge deal to me. Every marriage has challenging times, however, mutual respect and boundaries should never be crossed. Plus, despite how hard it might be in those moments there should always be a ‘us against problem’ mindset!

I think of myself as someone who listens very intently, especially when it comes to the people I care and moments of seriousness so I end up remembering lots of things that people often forget. So ideally I’d want a partner with the same level of attention to detail and support too!

Dealbreaker:
- Anyone who does not want anything to do with religion. Completely respect and understand you, however, foundational difference hojai ga
- vaping, abusive language, or rudeness to strangers
- No initiating conversation at all
- Not paying attention to the people you love. Simple example: if your close friend/sibling casually mentions how much they love ice cream from cafe A, you should remember it and if you can’t, at least write it in your notes so that you can surprise them with it.
- if you hate adventure or walking 30km in the streets of Barcelona, then we’d probably have to book separate trips. I do love a peaceful trip but I don’t think anyone would hate that.

I do have a provider mindset, however, in this economy I unfortunately can’t retire at 26 and go on that euro trip every month. But it’s a matter of when, not how! Regardless, thought I’d mention this as it can be a deal breaker for some and that’s completely fair!

Also I’m not in a rush, I’d like to get to know the person and take it slow because there’s too many bad stories out there and I’m not risking such a big decision.

If you like think we’d be compatible, feel free to DM me with details about yourself and we can talk more on our values, perspectives, and thoughts!

Hello friends!

so funny story kinda but i just found this subreddit yesterday while doomscrolling and I thought lets post.

I shifted back to isb after i was gone for my studies and tried to make it but alas, the dream was shattered by uk companies. Most of my friends are from childhood, uni, or social scenarios but i think after your mid twenties it gets a tad bit difficult to do that since everyone is busy, however, here I am! would love to talk with new people and make some friends

a bit about me i guess, I’m old like *clears throat* twenn…twenty…..twenty six. up for early retirement with this back pain tbh. but jokes aside I am a social gamer, love learning random facts, history, philosophy and anything someone is passionate about tbh, tried padel for the first time when I came back so I play that sometimes. trying to figure out how to discipline myself more these days.

so yeah, send me a message if you‘re around my age
