Just got a triangle remote and the left dpad isn't working

Any fix for this? Tired to resync and do the one battery insert reset, no luck. Anyone else ever have this issue?

What's the fix here?

I'm not a plumber but reasonably good with DIY, but could use advice.

My plan is to just take the part into the plumbing store today, however it kinda looks like the top rusted away right from the sink (however I can't / don't want to replace the sink at the moment as we plan to redo the whole kitchen in the near future).
