For those who graduated in veterinary medicine at 23 versus those who graduated at 27 or 28, I’d really like to hear about your personal experiences.
Did graduating later have any disadvantages in terms of career opportunities, salary, confidence, relationships, or settling into life? Did you ever feel behind compared with people who graduated earlier? Also, is graduating at 27/28 considered normal or fairly common in cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, and Chennai?I’m especially interested in hearing from people who have personally gone through this, rather than general opinions or statistics.

Opinions about Euthanasia???

I want to know everyone’s perspective on euthanasia before joining veterinary medicine VS after experiencing it firsthand. Before I went through it, I always believed euthanasia meant giving up. But after facing it myself, my perspective changed completely. The first time was in 2024, and the second was in 2025. Even today, I still carry guilt. I keep wondering if I could have done something more.
He was a stray dog who, along with his best friend, chose our veranda as his home. We fed them every day, got both of them neutered, and made sure they were fully vaccinated. Unfortunately, both of them developed canine distemper. We fought for 19 days. They even showed signs of improvement, which gave us hope. I genuinely believed they would recover because they were otherwise healthy and vaccinated.
Then everything changed. His best friend slipped into a coma and passed away two days later. Looking back, maybe I was naïve for holding onto hope, but I just couldn’t accept that they wouldn’t make it.Two days after losing his friend, my other boy started giving up too. It felt like he had lost his will to live. He stopped eating, became partially paralyzed, and despite changing three veterinarians, nothing helped. Finally, one experienced veterinarian looked at us and said:
(Ye uski final stage hai. Likh ke deta hoon, kuch bhi kar lo, ye nahi bachega. Isko tadapane se achha hai isko jaane do apne dost ke paas.)That sentence broke us…….:/
That entire night, I sat beside him apologizing over and over again. Even though his legs were paralyzed and he could barely move, he wagged his tail.I can’t explain what that moment felt like.To me, it was as if he was trying to comfort me instead. It felt like he was saying, “It’s okay. It’s not your fault. You did everything you could. You can’t change what fate has decided for me. Let me go.”The next morning, it was time.My dad couldn’t bear to watch, so he said he wouldn’t come. The veterinarian arrived around 10:30 a.m. and spent almost an hour trying to find a vein but couldn’t.Then my dad finally walked in.He kissed him on the forehead and whispered, “I’m sorry.”Almost immediately afterward, the veterinarian found a vein in the very same place where he had been trying for the past hour.A few moments later, he was gone.It felt like he had waited for one last goodbye from the person he loved most.Even now, I still feel guilty sometimes. I still wonder whether I made the right decision. But when I remember how much he was suffering his entire lower body paralyzed, unable to swallow food, his body rejecting IV fluids I also remind myself that loving an animal sometimes means choosing to end their pain instead of prolonging it.I don’t think euthanasia is about giving up anymore.
I think it’s one of the hardest acts of love a person can make.🐾❤️

Veterinary medicine IS NOT a BACKUP for mbbs bds idiot !

Yaar, I genuinely wish there were a separate common veterinary entrance exam.(one nation one exam )
This field isn’t about who scores the highest marks. It’s about passion, empathy, patience, and a genuine love for animals. If you’re confused between XYZ course and BVSc, then, my child, BVSc probably isn’t for you. Please don’t choose veterinary just because you couldn’t get MBBS or BDS, or simply for the prefix. Animals are already suffering. They deserve veterinarians who are passionate about helping them, not people who see this as a backup option. In my state, animal welfare is only carried by NGOs, rescuers, and animal lovers. There are definitely amazing veterinarians, and I have immense respect for them, but very few seem genuinely passionate. I’ve also come across vets who seemed more interested in money than animal welfare, and that’s heartbreaking.Do you know one of the vets in my state actually told me to bathe my cat with Dettol because she had a skin allergy? 🙄🙄 Advice like that could have seriously harmed her. Sometimes I genuinely feel that, through years of rescuing animals and constantly educating myself, I’ve ended up knowing more than some of the vets I’ve met.One day, I hope I can expose negligent practices and push for strict action against professionals who put animals at risk including suspension or cancellation of licences where it’s genuinely warranted. Animals can’t speak for themselves, so someone has to stand up for them.Veterinary medicine isn’t just another degree. It’s a lifelong commitment to animals. If your heart isn’t in it, please choose another path. Our animals deserve knowledgeable, compassionate, patient, and dedicated veterinarians.

Telegram gc ??

Can y’all make a Telegram GC for 2+ year drop students (21+)? 🥲
I gave NEET again after a 3-year gap, and it completely humbled me. My goal isn’t MBBs
it’s BVSc but through AIQ, the cutoff is almost as high as getting an MBBS seat in some states.
I’ve forgotten most of my Physics and Chemistry basics, and honestly, I’m a bit insecure because of my age. It would be nice to have a group where people in a similar situation can share study updates, keep each other accountable, ask doubts, and even vent when things get overwhelming.

How Important Is an MVSc After BVSc?

before anyone says, “You’re just a spoiled, privileged brat I know I’m incredibly fortunate. I fully acknowledge the privilege I have.
Not everyone gets the chance to drop out of college at 22, fail NEET, and still have parents and a partner who continue to support them. I’m genuinely grateful for that, and I never take it for granted.I know many people don’t have the same opportunities, which is exactly why I want to make the most of mine and build a career doing something meaningful for animals and wildlife. My goal is to work with NGOs, wildlife, and animal welfare. I’d also love to do specialized short courses in things like safari veterinary medicine, marine wildlife, rehabilitation, conservation, etc. I don’t really see myself opening a private clinic. I’m from Goa, and my long term boyfriend has shifted to Mumbai, so my plans have changed a bit too.
I was honestly so happy thinking I’d get into Mumbai Veterinary College through the Goa state quota this year… but yeah, life had other plans. 🤣🤣🤣
Right now I’m thinking of taking a partial drop, with NEET 2027 as my target. If I start BVSc at 23, I’ll probably graduate around 28. After everything I’ve been through NEET and dropping out of law after 3 years I can confidently say I’ve been humbled. 😅 I genuinely don’t see myself studying for another master’s after my bachelor’s.
I plan to work in India, but I’d absolutely love to do internships, workshops, or short certification courses in places like Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, or anywhere I can gain hands-on experience with wildlife and conservation.

Veterinary at 23 worth it ??

Guys, I appeared for NEET in 2022 but didn’t score well. After that, I gave CLAT, joined law college, and eventually dropped out this year because I wanted to pursue veterinary medicine.
I appeared for NEET again, and after the re-exam my score is in the 200s. My goal has always been BVSc, not MBBS.
Would taking a partial drop be a good idea? It would be my third NEET attempt, and I’ll be 23 years old. Has anyone here taken a similar path or gotten into BVSc after multiple attempts? I’d really appreciate your advice.

22 (F):lawschool (India) dropout for veterinary medicine , need some guidance

Let’s assume there are 250 days left until NEET ( medicine entrance test ) 2027. I can’t afford to take a full drop year, so I’m thinking of joining short-term courses alongside my preparation, such as:
Livestock Technician
Paravet Training
Poultry Farming
Veterinary Lab Technician
I’ll continue preparing for NEET 2027, and if I get into a BVSc college next year, will the knowledge and practical experience from these courses help me in my future veterinary practice?
I don’t really mind if these courses don’t provide a certificate. For me, gaining knowledge, practical skills, and hands-on experience is what matters most.
Do you think this is a good idea, or would it be better to focus only on NEET preparation? Let’s assume there are 250 days left until NEET ( medicine entrance test ) 2027. I can’t afford to take a full drop year, so I’m thinking of joining short-term courses alongside my preparation, such as:

I genuinely have no hesitation when it comes to cleaning their urine or feces, or treating pus-filled, maggot-infested wounds if it means relieving their suffering.
I truly want to dedicate my life to helping animals.
Age has never been an issue for me. The only thing I can’t accept is sitting at home without doing meaningful work. If I cared about my age or what people might think, I would never have dropped out during my third year at NLU to pursue what I truly want.

Relaxation possible on state veterinary seats ?

Guys, after looking at the NTA data, I found that only around 1.7k candidate qualified from my state this year, compared to about 2.4K last year . Even last year, they couldn’t fill all the MAFSU seats only 9 out of 11 were filled.
This year, a new veterinary college (40 seats ) is also starting. From what I’ve seen, many students in my state prefer pharmacy , bsc over bvsc so I’m wondering if seat vacancies could become a bigger issue.
Do you think the vci could ever allow a relaxation similar to what happened in neet pg where the qualifying percentile was reduced (effectively making the cutoff 0 percentile for General and lower for reserved categories) if a large number of BVSc seats remain vacant?
I genuinely want to pursue veterinary medicine. I even left my 3rd year of college because this is the career I want. With just 1.5 ki prep studying only a few Biology chapters and Inorganic Chemistry, I still managed to score 201 . I’m feeling really disappointed, but I’m still hoping there’s some possibility if a significant number of seats remain vacant.
What do you all think? Has anything like this ever happened, or is it realistically possible?
As per VCI rule 3rd round ke bad state ki seats vacant rahi toh state decide kar sakti hai kya karna hai , aur ye MP , maharashtra mein pehle hua hai

Please guide 🐾

I’m planning to do a one-year certificate course while preparing for NEET 2027, with the goal of getting into BVSc next year. If I get admitted to BVSc, will that one-year certificate course be useful for my future career? Will it add any value or help me during my studies or professionally later on? I’d appreciate some guidance.

🐈‍⬛👋🏼

I’m probably not going to get into BVSc, but I still want to do something meaningful for stray animals. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to make their lives easier and better?
In the future, once I’m financially stable, I’d love to work on bigger initiatives for them. For now, I also want to join a course or workshop that teaches basic animal first aid, emergency care, wound management, and other essential skills so I can help animals safely until they can receive veterinary treatment.
If you know of any good courses, workshops, or ways to get involved in animal welfare, I’d really appreciate your suggestions. 🐈‍⬛🎏

Is it true ??

One of my counsellors told me that some deemed/private veterinary colleges in states like Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab conduct their own entrance exams. According to them, if I appear for and pass those exams, I could get admission. Is this actually true?

What next ??

I dropped out of law in my 3rd year when I found out that my state was finally starting a government veterinary college. Around the same time, Maharashtra was still reserving 11 BVSc seats for Goa students, and the previous years’ cutoffs gave me hope:
• 2021 – 178
• 2022 – 86 (last open-category seat)
• 2023 – 180
• 2024 – 216
• 2025 – 162, and even then one seat remained vacant.
With just two months of preparation, while also appearing for my law exams, I scored 290 in NEET by focusing almost entirely on Biology because I had lost touch with Physics and Chemistry. Based on previous trends, I was confident that 290 would be enough to secure a government veterinary seat in Maharashtra under the Goa quota. Even in the worst-case scenario, I believed I’d get into the new Goa Government Veterinary College.
Then NEET was re-conducted.
I scored 201. I thought I’d at least qualify, but the qualifying cutoff for the General category turned out to be 213. In one moment, everything I had planned fell apart. I couldn’t even become eligible for management quota admissions.
I’m honestly shattered.
Veterinary medicine wasn’t just another course for me. Animals—especially dogs and cats—helped pull me out of one of the darkest phases of my life. I wanted to dedicate my life to helping them in return.
Now I’m 22 years old, I’ve left law, and on paper I’m back to being just a 12th-pass student. It feels like all the years I invested have disappeared overnight. I don’t know what happens next, but right now it hurts more than I can put into words.

Please helppppp 😭🙏🏻😭🙏🏻😭🙏🏻😭🙏🏻

After scrolling and talking to a lot of people all night, I came across discussions about NEET qualification relaxation in the spot round. Since I’m from a state where many students still prefer BA/BSc over BVSc, I feel there’s a good chance some BVSc seats may remain vacant, especially with the new veterinary college starting this year.
The NEET qualifying marks are also quite high this year, so I feel there’s at least some possibility of relaxation if a significant number of seats remain vacant.
Has anything like this ever happened for BVSc admissions in any state? While searching online, I came across mentions of states like Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, and a few others where some form of relaxation or special measures were reportedly taken when seats remained vacant.
Do you think there’s any hope that NEET qualification relaxation could be allowed in the final spot round if seats still remain vacant? Something similar happened for BAMS and BHMS admissions last year, and there was also relaxation in JEE-related engineering admissions this year. Is a similar decision for BVSc even possible?
Edit : last year mere state se bs 10 log MH mein gaye the under Goa state quota

Need some guidance

Guys, I really need some guidance.
For the past 3 years, my state has been saying they’ll start a government veterinary college, but there has been no real progress. Even if it starts this year, I honestly don’t think more than 10 students will join because BVSc isn’t a popular choice here.(last year only 8 students joined bvsc in MH from my state under Goa state quota )
My NEET score is good enough to get a seat in my state’s government college, but it’s probably not high enough to get a private veterinary college through VCI counselling. My parents are ready to spend around ₹20–25 lakh if needed, so I’m wondering if taking a management quota seat would be worth it……. I really want to get out of my state for a few years. After graduation, I’ll most likely have to come back to my hometown and spend the rest of my life here. I just want a change, to explore a new place, become more independent, and grow as a person.
Also, can someone explain how management quota admissions work for BVSc? If I’m not mistaken, aren’t most private veterinary college seats reserved for students with that state’s domicile, with only a limited number available through VCI? If that’s true, what options does an out-of-state student have?
I’d really appreciate any guidance from someone who’s been through this.
