Can I sit outside with my boy?

I’m picking my boy up tomorrow after 4 nights away from him while he’s been at the hospital. No surgery but crate rest for 4 weeks has been given. He is apparently doing great and every day he’s been at the vets he’s gotten progressively better.

He is crate trained and I’m so thankful for that! My question is, he LOVES the sun and sunbathing, so would something like 23 hours in the crate (minus pee breaks) and one hour of me holding him sitting down outside so he can feel the sun be okay?

Or for example transferring him from one crate in the utility to another in the living room so he can be with us in the evening be too much movement?

Thank you ❤️

Changes you made after IVDD

My 5 year old boy has just had his first IVDD episode. Friday mild lameness, Saturday partial paralysis. He has been at the vet referral hospital since Saturday and I’m so grateful we were able to catch it quickly and give him the best chance. He has made really good progress and where we were thinking surgery was going to be needed the neuro surgeon phoned me to say with a month crate rest he is happy for him to come home in the next day or two.

I would love to know what changes you made after IVDD, our boy has always been allowed on and off the sofa which will now stop. I won’t ever play fetch with him again (the trigger) and he will also wear a harness as opposed to a collar now. I’m also going to make sure his diet is high protein.

Is there anything else I can do?

Does anyone else just feel “meh” about the baby/being pregnant?

I’m a FTM currently 18 weeks. Planned pregnancy. Before getting pregnant it kind of felt like all I wanted and the missing piece to my life. And then as soon as I got pregnant the “Oh god what if this is all a mistake?” set in. And it hasn’t really left. I had hyperemesis weeks 6-12. And then horrendous heartburn constantly. And ptyalism since week 8. So my pregnancy has basically sucked so far.

I don’t really feel anything at my scans or when I hear the heart beat. I don’t wish harm to my baby and haven’t ever wanted to terminate, but I also feel a sense of regret because I’m so worried about how detached I feel. What if the baby comes out and I’m like “Meh, I feel nothing for this tiny human who is mine?!”.

Has anyone else felt like this but then gone on to feel different once the baby is actually here?!

When did you start coming back to life?

Just for a bit of fun!

I had the worst first trimester. Full blown HG. I got new meds and by 12 weeks I started to feel human again.

I realised I was coming back to life when I could open the dishwasher without vomiting.

Also, being able to drink plain water again. Magical 😂

Sex drive in the first trimester

I’m 14 and a bit weeks and haven’t had sex with my partner since I conceived 🫪🤣 I had the most horrendous nausea and vomiting for 11 solid weeks so sex was the last thing on my to do list. I’m still sick once a day a few times a week but would like to get back into sex. Is there anyone else who just didn’t have sex at all in the first trimester/ longer for one reason or another?! I feel like the longer I leave it the easier it will be to just never have it again!

I promise the sickness gets better

I want to caveat this by saying of course there are women who have sickness throughout and I am so so empathetic to you. My sister had HG until birth.

But I want to do a post for anyone who is in the trenches right now. I am nearly 14 weeks and I can’t even tell you how surprised I am that I have made it to this point. Because frankly I was wishing for death and seriously considering not continuing with the pregnancy.

I was in the absolutely pit of hell from weeks 6-11. I’m talking the most severe nausea and sickness of my life. I was vomiting so much it got to the point it was just bright yellow bile and blood. I felt delirious from the dehydration. My MH was in the gutter because I was bed ridden. My life was literally put on hold overnight for a solid 5 weeks.

I had to get extra scans and IVs because I was so ill. I’ve lost half a stone.

Tried multiple meds. Food was enemy. I wanted to move house because EVERY THING was a trigger.

And then I woke up at 12 weeks and I felt like a functional person again. Don’t get me wrong, I was still being sick and had crazy aversions and I’m still suffering horrendously with ptyalism, but life feels bearable again. I remember reading these kinds of posts and thinking “I hate that person. I’m so envious. I’ll never make it to that point of feeling okay again”.

For anyone in the midst of it right now, I see you and I’m here for you. Whether you want to talk privately or just vent in the comments. You are not alone 💜

Imposter syndrome being pregnant

I’m 13 + 3 with my first baby. And since finding out I’ve felt this weird sense of imposter syndrome that I’m make pretend pregnant /embarrassed to be pregnant. It’s such a bizarre feeling. I’m in a long term relationship with a full time job in my 30s and yet I feel like people are thinking “She’s just a teenager” or “Who does she think she is, being pregnant?”. It’s utterly bizarre!! I find myself embarrassed to people like they’re going to burst out laughing at the ridiculousness of it.

Does anyone else feel like this?!

Scopolamine / hycosine for the spits/ptyalism/excess saliva

OH. MY .GOD. this is truly doing my head in. 13 + 4 and I have been spitting every 20 seconds since about week 7. My mouth is literally FILLED with saliva to the point I gave up spitting into a bottle (which was a massive trigger anyway) and literally just have a towel stuffed in my mouth EVERY WAKING MOMENT. It is horrendous and severely limiting my QOL as I can not go anywhere or talk without needing to spit. I simply can't swallow it.

Could I have experiences with these patches? Did it work? I would especially appreciate if anyone in the UK has been able to get their GP to prescribe.

Thank you <3

What is a good middle name for Freya?

I think I’m set on Freya for the first name for a girl. Surname is Wright. But none of the other names I like sound right:

- Freya Sadie Wright (do Freya and Sadie sound too harsh together - like they’re both first names?)
- Freya Janey Wright (this sounds softer to me)
- Freya Millie Wright (we both love Millie but is it better as a first name?)

Open to other suggestions!

Thank you!

Episiotomy experiences

Please could I hear from people who have had an episiotomy? How long were you allowed to push for, did the actual procedure itself hurt, how was recovery, etc.? I’d be extra interested to hear if you’ve had 2 births and could compare pain/recovery etc. if you only had to have it done with one of the births. I’m worried about needing to have one but equally as worried about needing a C-section because I’m really squeamish with surgery!

If you are small were you able to birth vaginally?

I’m small, 5’2 and around 8st6 (currently 12 weeks pregnant). I am worried that because of my size I will need a C-Section. I would love to hear stories from women of a similar build who were able to deliver naturally! I appreciate a lot of it comes down to how you’re built and not necessarily size but just looking for reassurance that I will actually be able to push a baby out 😂 My partner is 6ft or just over and a slight built.

Do you have any strange triggers?

Mine is the front and back garden. Specifically, the dryness of it right now (heatwave in the uk) and the weeds. I have never had a problem with this before but it REALLY triggers my symptoms. Lush leafy gardens are fine. It’s so fucking weird. Does anyone else have any weird ones?

Feel like I’m going crazy

Has anyone else reached the point of feeling like they don’t know what is real or in their head anymore? I have ptyalism and I have a cloth in my mouth any time I’m awake because I can’t swallow the saliva. I can’t spit into a bottle because it triggers me. Chewing gum makes me produce more and I can’t swallow it even if it’s flavoured. I made my boyfriend show me how much saliva he had in his month after one minute and I had literally double the amount. But I felt like I had to see it to believe it. Does anyone else know this feeling?!

Dealing with all the saliva

As if the nausea and vomiting isn’t enough the saliva is really making me so miserable. It’s 24/7. I got fed up of spitting every 10 seconds so I now have a towel that I stuff in my mouth and rotate the sections once soaked. I’ve had to stuff tissue in my mouth if I’m in public. How do you all deal with this? Spit in a cup? Spit onto a towel? Is anyone else as desperate as me and stuffing things into their mouth? I truly feel like I’m going crazy

I’m so miserable

I honestly don’t know how to get through any more of this. 8.5 weeks. I’ve had debilitating nausea from 5.5 weeks, I throw up two or three times a day but feel SO SICK 24/7. I’m so so tired. All I want is to drink water but the glass smells like shit so I can only drink out of the hosepipe or the tap. I have constant excess saliva. Vile taste in mouth.

I’ve tried all the usual recommendations plus meds but nothing stops the nausea. I genuinely feel like this is psychological torture.

Did your nausea just vanish?

3 previous HG pregnancies. 7w4d with current pregnancy. Felt like death on a plate week 6 to 7w2. All day debilitating nausea, couldn’t sleep, function, basically bed bound. I then got to a few days ago and suddenly felt okay again. Can eat and drink normally. Still gagging and puked water this morning but I no longer feel like I’m dying from the Bubonic Plague. Everything was fine at my scan a few days ago, no cramping or spotting or any reason to believe I’m no longer pregnant.

I’m sure this won’t be the last of my nausea but has this happened to anyone else where you felt absolutely floored and then suddenly you just had “normal” nausea and sickness than than ALL CONSUMING? I’m looking for hope 🤣

Nausea worse as the day goes on?

Does anyone have this? I wake up fine and then from about 1pm I am down and out with the most horrendous nausea that I can only survive in a dark room with ice packs. In other pregnancies I've been vomiting constantly all day and night (HG) so in so many ways I'm so grateful but I find knowing that every day is going to be lonely, and the same, so hard.

Surviving the vile mouth taste

I think anyone with HG knows what this is, that HORRIBLE, dry, stale taste in your mouth that never goes away. I’ve tried sucking on hard sweets, mints, using mouthwash and it is always there. It’s hell. How are you all coping? Any tips?

u/BeautifulPiggles — 4 months ago

Cyclizine, Promethazine/Phenergan and Doxylamine

I have these three drugs ready to take as soon as nausea hits, I just want to ask those who had this same cocktail at what point in the day did you take them? Did you take them all at the same time or at different hours?

I don't care about being drowsy as I'll be off work! Thank you!
