3 panel Waterlilies at Moma

So I realized this year that I have seen 10 Waterlilies in person, including the circular one from Dallas and also one from a private collection, both during a traveling exhibition this year. I also just added Cleveland and Dayton in the past week, which is what brought my total to ten.

I plan to visit both The Met and MoMa (the latter specifically for their Waterlilies) next month, which will add either five or eight to my total. But I am unsure how to count these. Going by the Wikipedia list, which is how I made my list (I didn't begin keeping track until earlier this year...I make the joke about catching them all like Pokemon), I see that MoMa has 5 pieces listed, but three of those are part of a triptych.

So I am not sure whether to count the triptych as one piece or three. I saw on the list that Cleveland, St. Louis and Kansas City each have a piece of a triptych, but I wouldn't call the one I saw this week in Cleveland 1/3 of a Waterlilies, either.

Anyone else counting their Waterlilies and how do you count them?

The irrational dislike for b741...

...kinda bothers me a bit. I'm honestly not a huge fan of the album (I think I listened to it once or twice when it first came out...I had just fallen down the rabbit hole at that point, and all the older stuff was WAY more interesting to me), though the very rare times I pull it out to listen to, I have an appreciation for the songs that I didn't have before the couch tour.

If you don't like the album and call it "Dad rock," that's one thing. Calling Phantom Island "Dad rock" rankles me, but that's a different topic. But to say that they sold out to an American audience (and I have seen this posted numerous times) is ridiculous.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember Stu mentioning in an interview that the reason they chose the "classic rock, blues-based format" was that the concept (some may say gimmick) for the album is to have every member write songs for it, and sing on some of the tracks. Personally, I think this was aimed at Lucas and Cavs (for vocals) to allow them to contribute more to the creative process, and the basic classic rock framework was the easiest in which to make that happen.

I just don't feel like having to type that explanation out every time I see the, "They just want more money from Americans/selling out to Americans/trying to expand their fanbase in America and capitalize on their popularity with much more accessible songs" nonsense.

If you don't like the album, that is fine. But to accuse the band of something, that if you take Stu at his word, that is completely untrue, it bothers me a bit. Not because of the hatred directed at entitled Americans. That I understand. But to pull the band down because you don't like something (the album or Americans) is kinda not cool. End of rant.

The Met to Forest Hills

I am flying in the morning of the show early (as in, a few hours before the museum opens). How long does it take to get to The Met from La Guardia (should I take a Lyft, or is there easy to access public transit nearby?), and how long from The Met to Forest Hills, also wondering public transit vs Lyft?

Basically, if I can get to The Met when it opens, how many hours do you think I am good for before I need to leave to get to the rave show? I have a GA ticket, and I don't *need* to get there immediately at doors to be on the rail, but I would like to be close to the front.

I am thinking about six hours would take me to 4 pm, which would leave time for transportation, getting something to eat near the venue, and getting a decent spot.

To quote Joey, thoughts?

The most unsettling/haunting song in the catalog is...

Personally, The Wheel is my choice. I first heard it at the acoustic Caverns show, and due to...not being sober, it had this slightly chilling, unsettling effect on me.

Having heard it many times afterwards on album, it still has that same feeling...the recording itself is very warm-sounding, but very sparse and cold musically and thematically. It's foreboding and vaguely threatening. It's also one of my top five bleakest GIzz songs...the existential dread is strong with this one.

Runner-up is Straws in the Wind. Very raw-sounding and immediate in the recording, which enhances how bleak it is.

I saw this in r/Community...

I mean, it's not just me, right? It's a trio of Han-Tyumis, right?

I need help with enemies for my game

If anyone is keeping up, my King Gizzard RPG proof of concept is coming along nicely, but I keep putting off one important aspect of the game, namely enemy design.

I have a bunch of placeholders to test the combat balancing right now, and that is pretty squared away. Character select/gear/skills/classes/elements are all also done. But trying to read through all the lyrics to find good enemies is a daunting task. So I am gonna leave it open to the community...

PLEASE help me come up with enemy ideas from songs. Bonus points for suggesting a skill or attack type as well. If used, I'll put your name in the credits.

I have already made:

Evil Man

Evilest Man

Big Fig Wasp

Set

Kraken from Open Water

Predator X

Altered Beast

People - Vultures (along with enemies mentioned in the lyrics, Headless Guru and Wild Dogs escaping from their cage)

Ganymede Princess

Queen of Ice

Rats (Infestation)

Butterfly (not sure if you should be fighting one, though...)

Sadie Sorceress

Lord of Lightning

Dragon

I still need nine individual, single enemies; and four groups of related enemies (I am using rats as A, B and C variations, as an example).

Minibosses are done, but I am also needing suggestions for final boss ideas. There will be a boss room/area with multiple related battles, including the final boss. Meaning, it's more than just the boss itself. I am looking for multiple boss-level enemies with "adds" mentioned in the same song's lyrics.

So far, I have Ganymede Princess and Queen of Ice as one boss room, so more in this vein are needed. I hope to have five such rooms, and the princess/queen mentioned are one, so I still am looking for four more.

Thanks ahead of time to anyone who chooses to make suggestions, and if you have an idea that I use, I will add your name to the credits.

[I ate] Pork n' Green- Alabama Barbecue/Soul food

My first post...hope I'm doing this right.

I got this to go, so I heated it up back at the hotel (the gentleman packaged each ingredient separately).

Pulled pork, breaded fried onions, greens (the most delicious greens I have ever eaten) and red sauce over cheesy grits.

A guy online swore by this dish at a place called Saw's Soul Kitchen in Birmingham, so I wanted to try it. It was really good, but it was weird (in a good way)...I have never in my life tasted anything like this.

And before anyone asks, I asked for white sauce on the side, so I also used some of that as seen in the picture.

Edit : the title is supposed to say, "Greens"

Microtonal KEXP

I dunno why it took me this long to watch it (yay Sleep Drifter and Billabong Valley!), but why is the audio so echo-ey and boomy? I don't remember any other KEXP sessions that had that sound. Was that purposefully done? I would guess it would have to have been, but it sounded kinda...hollow is the wrong word, but...you know what I mean?

I have four.

- Searching...

- Gliese 710

- Exploding Suns

- Evilest Man

And you?

Edit : I meant songs that have never been played, period, like they debuted Candles or Hell's Itch on Nathan.
