Theory about Pitfalls
In Kane’s short film Pitfalls, which I consider to be one of my favorite pieces of horror ever made, we see the horrifying and distorted monster that is making human noises. It seems that the monster is making these noises to lure Marv closer so it can kill him, but I actually don’t think this is the case. We see the monster move around in place, but not actually run forward. Marv trips when he starts running, turns back multiple times, and even waits a while for the other scientists to drop the rope and we still never even see the monster again. Either it moves very slowly or it wasn’t actually chasing him.
My theory is that the monster previously killed multiple people (hence the “help us” and conversation with itself). After it killed these people, it began mimicking what it heard them saying. Since the backrooms is constantly absorbing information from the people/objects in the null zones and whoever enters it, it makes sense that the entity would absorb these noises. It simply is mindlessly making these noises because this is the information it has absorbed. Once Marv comes in contact with the entity , it starts screaming and squirming. I believe this is the entity mimicking the reaction the people it killed had when they came in contact. It essentially is living out the experience of those people, and Marv is to the entity what the entity was to those people.
I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts, do you think this is a good theory or am I way overthinking things
You will spend eternity in a cave eating clay regardless of how you lived your life
Struggling to find a new job
The teaching market right now is so awful, last year when I applied to schools I found out pretty quickly from all of them and got a job after only applying to a few. This year I’ve applied to new schools every day and I am hearing nothing back outside of one interview. Maybe i’m just being impatient but its such a difficult time right now in New Jersey with all the mass layoffs
