The patriarchy doesn’t exist
I recognise it existed in the past. I do not recognise that it exists today.
Sociologist Raewyn Connell explained how the common man benefit from the patriarchy through “patriarchal dividends” meaning presumed professional competence, freedom from the disproportionate burden of uncompensated domestic labour, and freedom of movement in public spaces.
Historically these things are not what defined a patriarchy. When an actual patriarchy existed women couldn’t work, have their own bank account, get an education and so forth.
The “patriachal dividends” that the average man receive aren’t from a systematic oppression. It’s people entering agreements with obligations that they do not like.
If you feel like you do more around the house, and you’re unhappy: Leave.
If your employer views you as stupid: Leave.
The patriarchy is an invisible bogey-man for women that like to feel bad about themselves.
