Anyone else have their VGLI allotment randomly missing from their retired pay (RAS) recently?
If you have VGLI, you are probably familiar with the option to have premiums automatically deducted from military retired pay.
I've been enrolled in this type of VGLI allotment for a long time. The allotment suddenly disappeared from my September 2026 RAS. I did not make any changes with DFAS or the VGLI servicer (Prudential).

What to do with 4 points that I can't bank? Expire November 30, 2026. This is my first year that I ever haven't used all of my points (my contract is 130 points per use year). Thanks in advance.
reddit.comBefore 9/11, did most Americans recognize and associate the phrase "World Trade Center" with the twin towers in NYC? So if they heard the WTC was hit by a plane but didn't see it on TV yet, would they generally know what was being referenced?
reddit.comNorth Orange County. How much should I expect to pay at a local mechanic (not a dealership) for a timing belt package (including water pump and spark plugs) on a 2017 Honda Pilot? Approaching 90,000 miles, never had the timing belt done before. (Owner's manual recommends 7 years or 100,000 miles)
reddit.comIn a battle with my wife. Need suggestions. What's the best tune to whistle after a satisfying burp? She's currently doing "Killer Tofu" by the Beets (from the TV show Doug), which honestly is pretty good. All I can come up with is the "Trololo" song or "allllll aboard" like I'm a train conductor.
reddit.comThe poorest in the US can't find housing even as low-income units sit empty
apnews.comCan't decide if we should move to a new state. Currently in a VHCOL area (Orange County, CA).
I work from home and could do it from anywhere, but we'd prefer to stay in the continental U.S. - somewhere with either mild winters or mild summers.
Wife is SAHM. My annual gross income is $240,000, but it would probably go down a little in a smaller market, probably not lower than $200k.
3 kids, but multigenerational household (mom age 75 lives with us now that my dad has passed away). So we really need 4 bedrooms, preferably 5.
Owe about $800k on the mortgage. No other debts. Comps selling in our neighborhood for about $1.2 million. Feeling squeezed out and don't see ourselves here long term.
Can't afford to buy a 5 bed anywhere in Orange County anymore. Suggestions on where to look outside of California?
Other factors: prior military, so I'd consider veterans benefits at the state level (college tuition discounts for kids, property tax breaks, etc) to be a favorable factor.
California SB-296 (property tax bill) has been presented to the Governor. Finished the "engrossing and enrolling" stage and sent to the governor at 4:30pm yesterday (Aug. 27) according to the tracking site (link below)

To your knowledge, in the 1940s were there events or sermons in reformed churches commemorating the 300th anniversary of the Westminster Confession of Faith? Do you think there will be such events in the 2040s for the 400th?
I've seen some "Reformation Sunday" sermons before, talking about specific reformers. But I don't think I've seen one about the Westminster Confession of Faith as a whole.
There are only 4 cities in Orange County that do not have a freeway within city limits: Cypress, La Habra, Laguna Beach, and Stanton. Three cities have more than 3 freeways within city limits: Anaheim (6), Irvine (7), and Orange (4).
Note: in some cities, the freeway forms part of the city limit, for example in southeast Yorba Linda, where the city limit goes right down the middle of the 91 freeway.
[Fullerton] AC broke yesterday. Unit has been repaired several times in the last 3 years and is almost 20 years old now. Probably time for a new one. Anyone have any recommendations for HVAC companies that won't charge a bajillion dollars to replace it? 1650 sq ft single family home. Thanks.
PS - definitely not going to use Service Champions lol
