As A Canadian Living In The States ...

this whole Flo nonsense has got me wanting to cheer for Belgium during tonight's match.

Under normal circumstances, I would like to see the USMNT get a little payback on Belgium for us but I'm not sure that I can do that.

Anyone else feeling this way?

Accident @ Commodore Barry Park This Evening

Does anyone have any more details about the accident?

Considering that the park is going to be shut down for a year, it's pretty wild timing

Travel on I-280 Prior to WC Match @ Let Life Stadium

Does anyone have any recent experience with traffic volume and/or delays on I-280 prior to World Cup games at Met Life?

We're scheduled to travel back to Brooklyn from CNY on Saturday and there's a match at Met Life (Panama vs England) that kicks off at 5:00 PM.

I'm wondering how early the traffic situation will start getting crazy, like it's ever not crazy trying to get back into the city, and whether we should plan an alternate route that would take us through Staten Island instead of the Holland Tunnel.

We could avoid it by waiting until Sunday but then there's the Pride Parade, something that will also disrupt traffic in lower Manhattan.

Platner - For Those Who Are Opposed, What Now?

Not a Maine voter, so feel free to disregard, but for those on the left who are opposed to the nomination of Graham Platner what's your solution to the perceived problem of his nomination?

I've been seeing so much fucking kvetching about Platner's win but I really haven't seen any real world solutions. I mean, he's now the Democrats nominee for Senate.

What are people proposing?

Cheap Old House on Pine Street

I saw this house listed on the Cheap Old Houses IG account.

In the comments section, people are really dissing Johnstown.

Is there a reason for optimism when it comes to the town? Or are those naysayers right?

Men's Fashion - Why Is The Bar So Low?

Spent the afternoon on 2nd Avenue and surrounding area today.

Saw lots of fabulous looking and well dressed women out and about but I can't say the same for many of the males that I saw.

It seems like the bar for men's fashion, white males in particular, is pretty low and it's really depressing. I feel for the women of NYC.

Surely I'm not the only one who thinks this?

Canadian Soccer WC Podcasts?

What are you some of the better quality podcasts that cover Canadian soccer? 🇨🇦

Last WC I listened to something that I think was called "Walking The Red" but I can't seem to find that this go round.

Of course, it could be that I have the name completely wrong, which would explain why I can't find it.

Looking forward to seeing what people suggest.

S4:E15 - What's The Attraction?

That's Lisbon's question to Van Pelt about Erica Flynn?

So with that in mind, who's team are you on - Team Lisbon or Team Flynn?

I'm firmly on Team Lisbon.

P.S. Sorry, I don't have the Reddit app on my phone so I'm unable to create a real poll.

Neighbor Adding Fence To Roof Of Building

Two questions.

First, does our neighbor need to have a valid DOB permit in order to add a 6' high chain link fence to the top of the parapet on their building?

I'm thinking, "yes". (They do not.)

Second, how likely is it that the DOB would issue a stop work order for work being done without a valid permit?

Before you answer, our neighbor is the United Talmudical Academy.

In-House Super - How Does It Work In Your Building?

As the title says, if your building has an in-house superintendent, how does it work in terms of when they're on the clock?

We live in a 123-unit building that is, unfortunately, managed by WorstService Residential. The building's super lives in a 2-bedroom unit that StreetEasy says rented for $5K/month in 2023.

Our super seems to feel that his hours are 9-5 (M-F), even though we all know that breakdowns and issues happen at all hours of the day, including weekends. I'm not saying that a super should be on call 24/7 but for months tenants have been feeling that our building is pretty much abandoned by management on weekends. (The building's propaganda says that residents of the building "enjoy unparalleled service and meticulous attention to detail".)

How does it work for other people who live in buildings with an in-house super?

FWIW, we've been in the building for 20 years and the building has a mix of RS units (20%) and market-rate units (80%).

Edit: Having to bold a part of my post because some people have poor reading comprehension skills.

The Team's Office Space @ CBI Headquarters

Has anyone else wondered, or has it ever been explained, who all of the other people are in the office area where Lisbon's, and occasionally Cho's, team have their desks?

I get that they're only one team in the whole CBI apparatus but it just seems strange that Van Pelt, for example, will face a fellow CBI officer that they never interact with.

The Cult of Hockey's Assessment of Coach Knoblauch

Not sure how many people listen to the podcast, not sure how many people like the podcast but I thought I'd bring up something that they mentioned on their most recent episode.

Before they got into their 13 reasons why Kris Knoblauch was doomed this year and fired they talked about whether they thought he would get another HC position in the NHL. (They think he will.)

One of the things that they lauded him for was his development of younger players, they think he might be a good fit in Toronto, but then they unknowingly went on to offer evidence that he wasn't very good at developing younger players.

Personally, I don't think Coach K was very good at that. The CofH guys talked about how Holloway and Broberg were pissed about their lack of ice time, the way Noah Philip was taken out of the lineup after being named the 1st star plus other examples. Based on my limited observation, it seems like he had very little patience with younger players and the mistakes that they made and would often bench them instead of letting them work through things.

What do others think?

Security of Interrogation Rooms

I used to watch the show back in the day and I just started watching again after I saw that it was on Hulu. (Currently on S2:E18)

Something that's been bugging me, what's with the lack of security on the interrogation rooms where they hold suspects? I mean, the doors don't seem to lock. Or at least they never seem to lock a suspect in them when they're in the middle of questioning them. There really seems to be nothing stopping a suspect from getting up and walking out.

Does that bother anyone else?

24/7 Elevator Repair Companies

In a city the size of NYC, and with as many high-rises as NYC, I would think that there are elevator repair companies that work 24/7. Am I crazy to think that?

I have to ask because, once again, one of the elevators in our FirstService Residential managed building has gone out and, once again, we're having to wait over 12 hours before a technician can come out and service the elevator. That makes no sense to me.

Sure, our building is only 7-stories tall and only has 123 units but why would you have a contract with an elevator maintenance company that doesn't make service calls outside of regular work hours?

To top it off, building management still hasn't informed tenants that one of the elevators isn't working. A neighbor drew an excellent "Our of Service" sign, wish I could share it, and posted it outside the elevators in the lobby.

Weekend Construction Work Without An AHV Permit

Has anyone else experienced construction work being done in their building after 6:00 PM and/or on a weekend without the contractor having an After Hours Variance (AHV) Permit?

If so, how did you deal with it?

Vacant units in our building are being renovated and, for at least the last month, the construction crew has been regularly working past 6:00 PM as well as on Saturdays.

I've emailed our Building Manager and the Owner's Representative but they don't respond. In addition, I've also filed 311 complaints but I'm not really optimistic about an inspector stopping by and catching them in the act.

For those that don't know:

An After Hours Variance (AHV) is required if you are seeking to perform construction activity before 7:00 am, after 6:00 pm, or on a Saturday or Sunday.
