What's a car feature (or accessory) most cars need but don't have?

I want to know a car feature or an accessory that you think people should have with their car. Either to make it a better driving experience or simply make the car better then it is without it. I think the car having cooling seats in both the front and rear should be an option we can.

If you could only drive cars from one decade for the rest of your life, which decade would you choose and why?

You need to consider the reliability, fuel consumption, style, performance, and everything in between. As an example, 2000s is what I would go for since its in this decade that the Bugatti Veyron and Porsche Carrera GT where first made.

What car would you never buy again no matter the amazing deal it has?

I wanna know what car people have bought expecting it to be fun or low maintenance, only to find out it was an absolute nightmare to own. It may be for maintenance reasons, terrible dealer issues, or anything else that made it a bad experience.

Goodyear extends European Le Mans Series supply deal through 2029

Goodyear renewed its partnership with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, keeping it as a tire supplier in the European Le Mans Series through 2029. Motorsport tire news can be useful because racing often becomes a testing ground for compounds, durability, heat management, and wet-weather performance.

But the question remains, do motorsport tires actually influence the tires we buy, or is it mostly branding?

Hankook Tire Highlights Off-Road, EV Fitments

Hankook recently highlighted its Dynapro off-road tires and iON EV tires at Overland Expo and dealer demo events. That’s a good consumer-facing trend: tire brands are clearly splitting product development around two fast-growing areas, EV-specific tires and adventure/off-road tires.

Are smart tires the next big safety feature, or just another expensive tech gimmick?

Pirelli’s Cyber Tire uses sensors inside the tire to collect real-time data about the tire and the road. That information can then be sent to the vehicle, cloud systems, and potentially even nearby cars.

The interesting part is what this could mean for safety. In theory, your tires could help warn you about potholes, standing water, snow, ice, or poor road conditions before you actually reach them.

Pirelli also recently invested in RIDEsense, a company focused on AI and virtual sensor technology, which makes it pretty clear where the industry is heading: tires are becoming data sources.

It’s a cool idea, but it also raises a question: "Would you want “smart tires” on your vehicle, or do you think this is just another expensive piece of tech that most drivers don’t really need?"

You can only buy cars from one country for the rest of your life. Which country are you choosing and why?

Ok so if you had to choose one country to buy cars from for the rest of your life which one would it be and why? Mind you the car brand has to have been created in this country so for example Ferrari is Italy, Ford is USA, and Nissan is Japan. I personally would go with Germany since I love Audi's and BMW.

How to properly maintain alloy wheels

A lot of people focus on tire care, but your wheels need maintenance too, especially if they’re painted or alloy wheels.

The biggest thing to remember is that wheels should be treated more like your car’s paint than a rough metal part. Harsh cleaners, abrasive brushes, polishing compounds, and cleaning them while they’re hot can damage the finish over time.

A simple routine goes a long way:

Before installing new wheels, apply a coat of non-abrasive automotive wax. This helps protect the finish and makes future cleaning easier.

When washing them, make sure the wheels are cool first. Start with the wheels before washing the rest of the vehicle, since brake dust and road grime can be messy.

Use water, mild automotive soap, and a soft sponge, wash mitt, or microfiber cloth. Avoid aggressive wheel cleaners unless you really need them, especially on painted finishes.

Re-wax the exposed areas at least once per season. If you want to keep them looking new for longer, waxing three to four times a year is even better.

What to avoid:

  • Don’t wash wheels when they’re hot
  • Don’t use abrasive pads or stiff brushes
  • Don’t use polishing compounds on painted wheels
  • Don’t rely on harsh chemical cleaners if mild soap does the job

Basically, keep it gentle and consistent. Regular cleaning with mild products is much better than waiting until the wheels are covered in brake dust and then trying to fix it with strong chemicals.

Why the DOT Number Matters More Than Most Drivers Think?

Most drivers never look at the DOT code on their tires, but it's one of the most important pieces of information on the sidewall.

The last four digits tell you when the tire was manufactured.

For example:

3224

  • 32 = the 32nd week of the year
  • 24 = 2024

This means the tire was manufactured in August 2024.

Why does this matter?

Rubber naturally ages over time. Even if a tire has plenty of tread left, its performance can decline as it gets older.

A newer tire isn't always automatically better, but knowing the manufacturing date helps you make informed decisions when buying, inspecting, or replacing tires.

The Moon Will Have Goodyear Tires!

Most people probably don’t think about tires when they think about space exploration.

Usually, tires make us think of asphalt, potholes, rain, gravel roads, or parking lots. But Goodyear just reminded everyone that even on the Moon, tires matter.

Goodyear will be supplying advanced lunar tires for Lunar Outpost’s Pegasus Lunar Terrain Vehicle, which is part of NASA’s Artemis program. The vehicle is expected to help astronauts move around the lunar surface during future missions starting in 2028.

And this is where things get really interesting.

On Earth, tires already deal with a lot: weight, heat, speed, water, impacts, friction, and wear. On the Moon, the conditions are even more extreme. These tires will need to handle rocky terrain, sharp surfaces, abrasive lunar dust, huge temperature changes, and much lower gravity.

It is a good reminder that a tire is not just “rubber on a wheel.” It is a seriously engineered part of the vehicle. It has to support the load, maintain grip, resist damage, and keep the vehicle moving safely.

And on the Moon, there is obviously no roadside assistance.

What I find cool about this is that the same basic idea applies everywhere. Whether it is a car on the highway, an EV in the city, an SUV on gravel, or a lunar rover in space, mobility always depends on the contact point with the surface.

On Earth, good tires can improve safety, comfort, efficiency, and confidence behind the wheel.

On the Moon, they can help an entire mission move forward.

Pretty wild to think that something as everyday as a tire can still be one of the most important parts of exploring another world.

AI Makes Its Way Into Yokohama Tire Mold Design

Tire development starts way before a tire ever hits the road.

One part people rarely think about is the mold. It gives the tire its shape, tread pattern, and plays a big role in how the final tire performs.

Yokohama recently announced a new tire mold design system that uses AI to help engineers develop better molds faster. The goal is not to replace human experts, but to support them by making the design process quicker, more consistent, and less expensive.

Instead of relying only on physical prototypes and repeated testing, the system can create many virtual tire models with different mold shapes. It then uses simulations to predict how those changes could affect things like handling, wear, noise, comfort, and efficiency.

What makes it interesting is that the AI does not just give a final recommendation. It also helps explain which design factors matter most and how they influence performance. That means engineers can better understand why certain mold changes work.

It is part of Yokohama’s “Humans and AI Collaborate” approach, where AI is treated as a tool to support expert decision-making, not replace it.

It is a good reminder that modern tires are much more advanced than they look. Even the mold, which drivers never see, can have a real impact on how a tire performs on the road.

What’s something people do to cars that feels personally offensive?

We have all seen a mod on a car that just doesn't look like it should be there. Either it looks too ugly or is just straight up out of place. I wanna know the things that people do to their cars that make the r/askcarguys cringe.

What’s the “cheap little thing” most people ignore that ends up costing them a fortune later?

I’m trying to get better about basic car maintenance instead of waiting until something breaks and costs a ton to fix.

Could be a part, a sound, a fluid, a habit, or something you see all the time that regular drivers don’t think about until it’s too late.

Better to buy tires ONLINE or IN PERSON?

I want to know what the car guy community believes is the best place to buy tires. Buying them in person was the method back in the day but now with so many different brands being offered online why would you not just buy them online. Plus when buying online you can get discounts and sometimes even extra services like delivery at your house or at a garage of your choice. So debate which is better and why.
