GW seeks new leadership for three key Warhammer spin-off games

GW is searching for new Product Developers for Blood Bowl, Kill Team, and Warhammer Quest, the people who create the briefs and set the goals for the major products in the lines - and since these are boxed games, that gives them a lot of influence over the games as a whole.

All the rules, tactical cards, and more pics of the new units

All in here. Need to see points costs but once again I'm stuck thinking "I want to play all three factions". Zeratul and the Nerazim look like absolute jesters with the amount of Hidden they can play with.

I went behind the scenes at Slitherine and spoke to Mathieu Valero from Cyanide Studio to learn more about the next digital edition of Blood Bowl

Mathieu had a lot of interesting stuff to say which I'll write up into a feature, particularly about how and why the Blood Bowl 3 launch was so rough - but this is the key stuff about the new features coming for the upcoming new digital edition.

I found a steampunk tank RTS that's wildly Astra Militarum coded

I write for the site Wargamer, and I'm also really into finding weird indie games, and occasionally they overlap when I find something that isn't an official Warhammer 40k game, but totally could be. Here's 'Veil of Ashes', an upcoming steampunk RTS with powerful Imperial Guard energy. Like, I watch the trailer footage, and I'm just imagining a Capitol Imperialis in there.

Homebrew narrative detachment for looted vehicles - Looted Motorcade

https://www.wargamer.com/warhammer-40k/unofficial-detachment-looted-motorpool

I think the detachment system for 11th edition is a pretty cool tool for making narrative-first content, and I decided to use it as a tool to represent looted vehicles. The short version is that you get to take a vehicle, nerf its BS to 5+, and then choose an upgrade package to Orkify it.

You can loot any (non-walker) vehicle you want, and the rules fit on one side of A4 - so you can probably guess that this won't be the most balanced detachment.

All feedback is welcome, particularly if you actually get it to the table, doubly so if you discover a true beast of a combo.

The Witcher: No Man's Land is back on track to release this year

I received a press release about The Witcher: No Man's Land, an upcoming skirmish wargame from Monster Fight Club set in the world of The Witcher, on Friday, announcing that it was due to go on pre-order "soon". I reached back out to the PR to ask when "soon" was, since the game had been announced in 2025 and I couldn't see anything new in the announcement.

I got a straight answer - the game is releasing this Fall. And I'd apparently overlooked some details on one of the pages - the contents of some of the character packs that will be available after the starter set.

If you're interested in learning more, here's my write-up:

https://www.wargamer.com/the-witcher-no-mans-land/miniature-wargame-release-date

The game is based on the same rules engine as Cyberpunk RED: Combat Zone: does anyone have experience with that system?

Infinity: Operation Mazebreaker review

Thanks to a free copy of the set provided by Corvus Belli, I've been testing Operation Mazebreaker, the latest two player starter set for Infinity. It's a well-established game, and the main question I set out to answer in the review was "How good is Mazebreaker for new players who want to learn to play the game?"

Is there potential in 1,850 points 11th edition as a standalone format?

Obviously it's all up in the air until we get Codexes, but a lot of the 3DP detachments are also the "take anything" detachments, because go figure, a buff that applies to any and all units in a list is also a detachment where you can max out the good stuff. Which means most of the 2DP detachments are thematic detachments.

I can see some parallels with how MtG handles formats, where deck-building restrictions result in formats with extremely different playstyles and metas. I've written up my thoughts here: https://www.wargamer.com/warhammer-40k/detachment-rules-1000-points though they basically amount to "I'm eager to see how this turns out".

But I like thematic lists and smaller games, so you can probably tell I'm not a competitive player. I'm intrigued what people here think the meta would be like: would players being incentivized by their detachments to take skew lists result in spikier matches with more stat checks?

Warhammer 40k Masters - Andy Quas-Cohen breaks down the Necrons for 11th edition.

Another interview from the Masters' Series, this time with the wonderful Andy QC talking about Necrons. Andy's given some great answers that will be interesting if you're an existing tournament player who wants to understand his theory of how the 'crons win, and super useful if you're new to competitive 40k or considering picking up the army for the first time.

Interviews with Innes Wilson and Richard Siegler, delving into the Genestealer Cults and Adeptus Mechanicus

Wargamer's Warhammer 40k masters series continues, with interviews with world class players discussing the factions they've truly mastered -

Innes Wilson with Genestealer Cults

https://www.wargamer.com/warhammer-40k/genestealer-cults

Richard Siegler with Adeptus Mechanicus

https://www.wargamer.com/warhammer-40k/adeptus-mechanicus

The goal with each of these interviews is to get the best possible answers to a seemingly simple question - "No seriously, how does your faction play?" The masters series will be very useful for newcomers to competitive 40k trying to settle on a faction, and anyone who just wants to learn how the masters think.

A "rigorous" new history book tells the story of how Warhammer 40k, Fantasy, and WFRP developed

I'm very excited by this. Awesome Lies Blog is working on a history of early Warhammer, specifically how the game developed, and it is apparently "academically rigorous" - something that no existing history of the game or of GW (that I know of) actually is.

Warhammer 40k masters - Liam VSL breaks down Chaos Space Marines for 11th Edition

I'm happy to share the first of Wargamer's Warhammer 40k masters interviews, talking to players at the top of the game about a faction they've built a reputation as a master of. I owe a big thanks to everyone in this forum for suggesting players I should talk to, and thanks to the mods for letting me share the post.

First up is Liam VSL, captain of team Belgium and multi-army threat, talking about Chaos Space Marines - the army he's used to win the 1,000 player London GT for the last three years.

I've asked fairly fundamental, basic questions in the interviews; the goal is to find the heart of what it's like to play the faction. I think there's real value - particularly for players taking their first steps into competitive 40k - in getting the most authoritative possible answers to seemingly simple questions.

There's a real good Humble Bundle for fantasy minis if you've got a 3D printer

Humble Bundle currently is currently running the "Dungeon Masters Role-playing Essentials" bundle, full of STLs from Hayward Terrain and Warp Miniatures. I've written about it for work here (mostly just waxing lyrical about Warp Miniatures):
https://www.wargamer.com/dnd/3d-printer-bundle-minis

The name is kind of misleading, because yes, you can use these for DnD, but there are a lot of miniatures that are really well suited for miniature wargames. Multipart kits for Dwarf miners, Zombies, and pirates; Lizardmen units; pig-faced Orcs; units that are battlefield role equivalents (but aesthetically quite distinct from) the various Chaos daemons.

Here's a direct link to the bundle, with no affiliate code in it:

Interview with Dave Lewis about Dropzone Commander third edition - he's back in charge of the rules as well as the minis

Dave Lewis is one of the few games designers who's also a miniature designer, having created the entirety of the first edition of Dropzone Commander, from rules to miniatures. Though he sold his original studio, Hawk Wargames, to TTCombat in 2017, he's remained active working on the games. And for third edition he's back at it again, working on a revamped plastic miniature range as well as the revised third edition rules. I had a chance to interview him at Adepticon at the end of March - lovely guy!

Nail art stamping plates as painting tools - my thoughts

I received a whole bunch of sample stamping plates from Goblin Hobbies, and I've started to incorporate them into my painting regime. My top level takeaways are:

  • This is a tool that needs to be mastered, and I'm not there yet.
  • It definitely has some very good applications, and for certain purposes I think it's going to be better than waterslide transfers.
  • It's incredibly satisfying to get right, and I'd recommend giving it (or an equivalent nail art stamping system) a try just for that reason.

Further thoughts in the linked article.

A short article write up from an interview with Tuomas Pirinen, talking about the motivation behind some of the designs in Trench Crusade. I was genuinely delighted when I first tested the TC rules and discovered that I really liked them, and Pirinen had some very interesting stuff to say - all very quickly and concisely, which fitted with the rules he'd written pretty well!

Or maybe another way to put it, does each faction have its own celebrity player?
I can think of some YouTubers who are known as tournament diehards with specific factions (for example, Lawrence from Tabletop Tactics with Drukhari, Hellstorm Mikey with Blood Ravens) - but I'm wondering about players who are famous as the most skilled and experienced players within a faction community.

I'm using a Neptune 4 Pro. I'm having issues with persistent clogging in my extruder, and they all seem to be forming above the throat pipe, squeezing in under the PTFE tube. I'm using genetic PLA that I've dehydrated, and slicing with Orca.

Is this something that other people have experienced? Is it something that can be fixed by replacing the PTFE tube? Or are my print settings also likely to be a cause?

I've noticed the problem occur between prints a couple of times - a print goes fine, then it's followed up immediately by a clog.

One other thing - these problems have all started since I started using the machine in much more suitable surroundings. I used to keep it in a cold outbuilding, but since moving house I have it in my office. I'm wondering if it's possible that it being much more accessible is an issue. Previously I'd only get to remove a finished print when I was finished with my day job, usually hours after the print had finished. So the head fans got left on until well after all heat had dissipated. Now I'm able to peel a print and set up a new one immediately, but that means there's an interval where there's still heat in the heating element and heat block, but no active fans.
