Why did the Nepali revolution fail?
So as I understand it, by the 2000s, Nepal's monarchy was on the backfoot against the Nepali Maoists. Much of the countryside was against the government which was behind many abuses against civilians, and in favour of the land reform and policies carried out by the Maoists. But in 2006, the Maoists surrendered, dissolved their parallel administration, and became political parties which quickly dropped Maoism from their politics and practice.
So what was the reason for this? Why didn't the revolution in Nepal succeed?
Is there a policy against people in the same family/household working on Outlier?
My mother has expressed interest in joining Outlier. But I already have an account. I wonder if there's some policy against multiple people in the same IP address from using the site? Anyone know if that's okay?

nytimes.comAether is in project queue, but doesn't come out of said queue on the mainpage.
So the mainpage just doesnt have the "start tasking" option for Aether, but it still appears in the Project Queue. Will this come back on its own, or does this mean Ive been removed?
My ranking of (most of) the Steely Dan discog (excluding most of 2AN and EMG)
Anyone else having this problem with the tasks?
Basically, whenever I try and do the task where you talk with the AI and rate two of their responses, when I press the button to start talking, it shows the recording circle for a frame and then defaults to "A" again, without recording.
Other jobs seem to work fine. Any idea why?

There are two meanings behind the ending (and why one of the criticisms of the ending makes no sense)
One criticism I keep seeing around on social media is that Jax is kept after his abstraction as a "pet" by the circus and everyone forgets about him, and that's bad because it's disrespectful to him. This is such an insane idea, and I have no idea where it comes from. Jax is not a pet of the circus. The tent that he is kept in has two meanings, that I believe in turn are two different meanings of the movie.
Abstraction is a metaphor for suicide. Jax is still around in the form of this abstraction only because that is how the medium of the show chooses to represent a form of afterlife. But Jax has for all intents and purposes chosen to kill himself. Yes, he did regret it in the scene with the lampost where he made it clear he didn't want to go, but by that point it was too late. Not too dissimilar to the "view from halfway down" scene from Bojack Horseman. The tent is now a grave for Jax. Something for him to be remembered by, for people to come back and pay their respects so he isn't forgotten. This understanding of the ending gels with how Gooseworx has previously (3 years ago) said that abstraction is permanent.
But one thing didn't sit right with me. Notice how when Pomni is trying to save Jax, she gets roped out by everyone saying "You didn't think we'd let you save him without us, did you?" (paraphrasing of course). Now, this line doesn't make any sense if abstraction is permanent. Which lends itself to the 2nd intrepretation of the ending. Abstraction is not a metaphor for suicide. The tent is a safe space for Jax. A place where he can rest and introspect. An allegory for being there for someone who is mentally unwell, but there isn't anything you can do for them. With this interpretation, the tent is not a grave either, but a place for Jax to be safe, to have space from the rest of the circus, so that when he recovers he can come back and the circus will be there for him, ready to take him back.
One might ask why this hasn't ever happened before for the abstractions. And I think it's quite clear why. None of them ever had the ability to do so, because Caine just put them in a cellar and forgot about them. Now, in their tanks/tent they are at peace, so who knows what might happen?
I'm quite torn between these two interpretations, and I'm curious what everyone here thinks about these options? Which interpretation makes more sense to you?
Does anyone think if there is any inspiration for the charachter of Zampano and Bolano's Archimboldi from 2666?
Both are authors, though in different ways, both are extremely mysterious and both are the subject of some of the main character's passions. I would be extremely surprised if Danielewski has not read 2666
Whatever happened to the Kan Daunt Police Station?
I know the PLA took it in June of last year, but Irradaway reported that the Tatmadaw tried to take it in August. Did they succeed or were they repulsed, as I haven't heard any news after that point.

bbc.co.ukIs it at all possible for the revolution to succeed without a proper urban strategy?
Something like 30% of the country lives in cities, so obviously a rural strategy is needed. But having read more on the CPB's insurgency in the 60s and 70s, its commitment to the countryside at the expense of the cities was a double-edged sword.
Yes, the CPB was able to seize all of the North-East, but it was alienated from the base of the 8888 Uprising in the cities as a result as it did not have as strong as an urban base.
Unless the junta is forced to fight in the cities, it will have a secure grasp on the key area of Central Burma, and how can anyone win like that?
So what steps could the PDF or PLA or anyone else take in this regard?
God Damn the Sun is such a sad song
I chose to listen to it a few minutes ago and as I really read the lyrics, the line "I've got one thing to say Before I am drunk again: God damn the sun" brought me to the brink of tears.
I think there's some oomph that's added to it by how, in a way, unexpected it is the guy in the song hates the sun. It's not what we would expect someone who is grieving to say. Which in turn reflects just how crushing this loss was for them that they turned to hate everything about the world. Not just earth, but all of the universe. I feel like there's more to it than just that, but I can't quite put it into words.
It made me want to get up and hug my mother. Your loved ones are unlikely to always be with you while you're here
