So I’m fairly new to the whole Xbox thing, got one recently after giving up on my PlayStation (say what you will, controversy aside I just really don’t like the direction that the company is going) and am unsure how backwards compatibility works.

I’d like to play the final fantasy trilogy, and I see the 360 versions of the game listed in the Microsoft store, but if I buy the games as used Xbox 360 disks can I just stick them in the console and they will just.. work?

This might sound like a stupid question but as someone who has been on PlayStation most of their life, and Nintendo before that, generally speaking you had to hold onto your old hardware if you wanted to play old games, like there is 0 way to play ff13 on PlayStation unless you have a ps3.

Not sure why or what’s going on here but my series x won’t go above 149 mbps while my ps5 hits 700, my pc will hit 980, my phone 900, my sisters ps5 700, pretty much every single device in my network hits above 500 on my gigabyte connection except the Xbox which has been downloading call of duty for almost 3 hours now which would have been done in 45 minutes or less on any of my other devices.

It’s connected to 5ghz, it’s no further from my router than anything else would be, there is no games running in the background, I’ve tried confusing the port and dns, makes 0 difference, nat type is open.

I can’t for the life of me figure out why its like this and it’s always been like this and it’s part of the reason I rarely use it.

I’m not sure why people keep saying this kills competition.. the digital store front was never competing with physical retail sales. Both of these things have sales that are set under different circumstances.

Physical stores generally will set a sale on a physical product when it is not selling or moving. They will also set a sale with a competing physical store if they have a price drop. Many physical stores don’t make much profit if any of physical sales of games and use them as an avenue to sell them things you will need along with it. A new controller? Snacks for your gaming session? A new headset? Those all are money makers for physical stores. When we see games on sale in physical stores for 19$ it’s because no one is buying them and the retailer would rather lose money and reclaim shelf space to put something on the shelf that will actually sell rather than just sit on dead stock.

Game prices on the psn ARE set by the publisher. The sales? Publishers set them. The starting price? Publishers set them. Publishers don’t have a floating agreement with retailers that allow them to vary in the amount they make on the physical sale at the time of sale.. the physical disks were bought for a predetermined price either directly from the publisher or through whoever their distributer was. When retail stores have their big sales during certain times of the year and physical games are then bought at a renegotiated rate from publishers or distributers in hopes of a. The publisher selling a bulk product at a lower profit but higher volume. And b the store that’s making little to no money off the sale will be getting sales in other areas because you didn’t go there for just that.

Digital sales get discounted for various reasons, slow sales, upcoming dlcs and sequels, or a fully profitable game that stagnated just to push a bit of extra profit.

Sony stopped retailers from selling digital game codes, that would be the only way the psn was competing with store fronts. This has nothing to do with completion. It has everything to do with 1. Publishers and Sony both want to end disks because if you buy sell or trade a physical game they no longer get a cut of that. You can sell and trade a disk 50 times but Sony only gets the initial cut of the original sale as does the publisher. Publishers are all for ending physical sales because the distribution and printing of disks cuts into profits.

I’m not saying this to piss people off even though most of you probably wont read past the title before you down vote, I’m telling you so you can be upset in the right way. So many people are blindly mad about reasons that just don’t make sense.

You’re allowed to be mad, you’re allowed to boycott, but be informed. If Sony wouldn’t have been allowed to stop the sale of digital codes to store fronts and pre set up their own store fronts monopoly we wouldn’t have been here. Sony has been planning this for a long time and no matter how upset we get they aren’t going to just change their mind. We need regulations put into place to make it so retailers can purchase digital keys from publishers for the PlayStation network and that’s the only way we will actually have completion for prices on psn. Right now psn has absolutely 0 way to be competed with because the unfortunate truth is the bulk majority of users are buying things digitally, largely because a huge chunk of people buy mtx in f2p games and Sony counts that as a digital sale.

Now maybe this is a “steak too juicy lobster too buttery” moment but I built a pretty nice pc with a 7800x3d a ryzen 9070gre 32gb of ddr5 6000mhz ram and have a nice 1440p 200hz monitor and for the life of me I just don’t enjoy playing games on pc and I can’t figure out what my problem is.

I can play the exact same games I play on my ps5 and I just don’t enjoy it, and I mean I’m playing it at the same desk, in the same chair, and on the same monitor with the same games and something about it just doesn’t hit the same.

I’ve tried my usual game apex legends and.. it just doesn’t seem the same. I’ve tried my favorite stories that I regularly enjoy playing and doing challenges in like resident evil 4 and nier automata and.. it just doesn’t give the same feeling. I’ve even tried several other “the experience is next level on pc games” like cyberpunk and the Witcher and it was more fun on console. I’ve tried the big gachas that the world loves to be addicted to (I do admit I play zenless zone zero pretty regularly) and they were just more enjoyable on my iPad or my PlayStation.

I really can’t even place my finger on why I’m not having fun with my pc.. by every means of the imagination I should be having a blast, graphics are better than my ps5, my controllers work and I have the option for kbm, frames are higher and better, I’ve had really no issues with games not working outside of changing 1 or 2 settings that took me a whole of maybe 30 seconds to do, but I just can’t seem to enjoy it and I’m at a loss. Obviously this is a me problem but it’s so disappointing to have decided to treat myself and then realizing it did nothing for me after spending 1800 bucks.

I preface this by, I welcome any and all suggestions but this was more or less just me venting and wondering if anyone experienced something similar and figured out what the mental block is, or just to have a discussion among like minded individuals since I don’t really know anyone irl that’s a gamer.

I have a ryzen 5 5600x and a 2x8 3200mhz cl16 ram kit. Should I buy a b550 motherboard for like 100$ and then get something like a 9070xt or 9070 or even 9070 gre, or should I spend the extra money and just build on am5?

For context the cpu and ram came from an attempted build a couple years ago where I got a few parts on prime day and never actually did anything with them.

I mainly play.. well random stuff I get on sale during steam sales and apex legends. Right now I’m using a pretty mid gaming laptop that has a 2050 and a ryzen 5.

So I have a series x and it never a single time will go over 150 mbps download speeds. I know the console has to be capable of faster speeds than that. My ps5 gets 500-600, mt switch 2 gets 350-400, my damn phone gets 600, my pc gets between 500-600, the only thing that doesn’t even come close to getting the correct wifi speeds over 5ghz is my series x. What could possibly be the issue? I have gigabyte internet. Yes it’s on wifi, no Ethernet is not possible.

For reference I can turn each device off and run the test on the exactly same spot in my desk, the Xbox series x will never download above 149.9 mbps while the other devices will regularly get well above that, to the point of if I download a 90gb game on my Xbox it takes an hour and a half where as on my PlayStation, switch or pc it would take 25-30 mins. It’s really killing me and makes me not even want to download stuff on my Xbox anymore.

So a few weeks ago I purchased a ps plus premium upgrade.. my partner that is on the card with me saw the charge and thought it was a mistake and we were double charged (since I got essential and upgraded to premium shortly after) so she disputed the charge.. obviously sony suspended the account, I got into contact with sony and said I had already contacted the credit card company to reverse the charge back. Which my credit card company a couple of days later did. The issue is Sony unsuspended the account, got their money, I was charged.. but they didn’t give me my ps plus premium back. I’ve been trying for days to get into contact with someone but the live chat is broken I guess because itll say estimated wait time is 30 minutes and then just disconnect and say sorry we were having a problem connecting you to someone try again in 24 hours.

I’ve tried all hours of the day every day this week and still can’t get a hold of someone and honestly I’m starting to get pissed because it’s ridiculous that Sony got their 77$ premium upgrade and my account is showing that all I have is essential and I can’t get a hold of anyone to get the problem fixed. What can I do here because I’m at a loss.

I can grab a brand new rx 6800xt for 400$, I have a 200hx 1440p monitor and currently use a RTX 4060. Is it worth 400$?

So right now I have a 2021 ram 1500 classic (single cab 8 foot bed v6) that’s currently in the shop getting repaired because some impatient moron couldn’t wait 2 seconds behind me and ran into the back corner of it trying to pass at a busy intersection.

I was already planning to get rid of it because I moved further away from work recently to a nice neighborhood and the thing was killing me on gas. Driving about 40 mins each way to work. In the morning I go the highway and on the way home to avoid traffic I go down the back roads.

I currently owe right around 7k on it and I’ve gotten appraisals for it between 17k to 19k to sell/ trade it. I don’t foresee the accident killing its value since it was purely cosmetic damage, no structural damage, it’s just getting the side panel of the bed replaced.

I’m not really sure what to buy though, I’d love something that’s more fuel efficient since I’m driving further for work, and I’d also love to lower my payment a bit. Was originally planning to keep it until I paid it off but gas is now 4.60 a gallon where I live and that thing cost 120$ to fill the tank once a week.

My mind defaulted to something like a Toyota Corolla for fuel efficiency and reliability but I’m 6’4” tall and I don’t think that’ll work out. I currently have a Malibu as a rental car and I barely fit in it leg room wise. Seat all the way down and back and my knees still damn near hit the steering wheel.

I want something that’s going to be fuel efficient, and reliable.

I’m thinking of just buying something new again since my intentions are to keep it for 10 years. The maintenance part of it isn’t really an issue because I’m a mechanic and do my own maintenance (unless it’s brand new I do work right down the street from a auto mall so dropping it off for service in the morning and picking it up on the way home is no big deal either). I preface that with I’m not an auto mechanic though I’m a diesel mechanic, not exactly the same but a lot of it translates over for basic preventive maintenance.

Budget 30k. I don’t plan on putting all of the equity of the trade into a down payment as I just had to spend 5 grand in moving cost so I’m probably going to use about 4-5k down and hope to walk away with a check for 4-5k.

Suggest away, my current considerations are a Chevy trax and a Mazda cx50. Although the Mazda is really pushing the budget, they are really nice cars though.
