Is it just me, or has ChatGPT become incredibly condescending and argumentative lately?

Lately, ChatGPT has been shutting me down for anything even mildly problematic in the most condescending way possible.

I was asking it to help draft an email today. For context, it wasn't anything toxic—I literally just included a single "🙄" emoji in the text. But the AI immediately went into preachy mode, lecturing me to soften my tone so I wouldn't "rub off as emotional."

I repeatedly told it that this was just a casual, non-professional email written for a friend, but it completely ignored my explanation and kept preaching at me anyway.

To make things worse, it started accusing me of saying things I never actually wrote. When I called it out, it literally replied: "Yes, but you implied it indirectly." Genuinely, what is that even supposed to add to a conversation?

After reminding it multiple times that its role is to be helpful, not argumentative, it responded with: "Let me set things straight: my role is not to agree with everything you say."

I feel completely gaslit. I remember paying for an assistant, not a defensive teenager.

Western/Ivey social life for introverts (honest experiences wanted)

This is a question for other introverts, preferably those going to or already in the Ivey program.

I’m a grade 12 student who’s going to Western for BMOS + Ivey AEO in September. While I enjoy the 2+2 learning style and London as a city overall, I’m worried about the student body. I’ve heard Western is an extremely extroverted and somewhat elitist school, especially in the Ivey program.

Meanwhile, I’m pretty neurotic, skittish, and my interests are quite niche :( I’ve struggled to feel like I belong for most of my life. Also, I'm not big on partying or drinking, and I want to be authentic, not performative.

To other fellow introverts: is Western a welcoming school?

Do you feel like you don’t belong, or is finding your people possible? I had trouble integrating in high school, so I’m worried it might be worse for me at Western. Should I consider switching to my local university instead?

What's your experience with racism and nepotism at Queen's?

I'm a second-generation East Asian student thinking about going into Smith School of Business at Queen's University, and I've heard the school is mostly white and pretty clique-y.

While my Asian friend who goes to Queen's says she hasn't experienced any racism, I've heard a lot of horror stories online. Therefore, I'm curious to hear perspectives from other people of colour at Queen's.

When I say “racism,” I don't just mean blatant hate speech or assault. I also mean things like discrimination, social segregation, feeling excluded, or feeling like you don't share the same values or background as a lot of the student body. Also, are there many people of colour—especially East Asians—in the Commerce program?

I also have a more general question for all Queen's students: what has your experience with classism been like? Is there nepotism involved when it comes to clubs and opportunities, or is that exaggerated?

an UPDATE on my dog

Original Post

SO, some of you might recognize me, but my parents FINALLY took our Havanese to a dental specialist. Apparently, his condition has massively worsened, and he now needs to have over a dozen teeth extracted.

I was obviously upset and called my parents out, saying that if they had gotten him help earlier, he would have only needed about six teeth removed. My mom then insisted that he always needed over a dozen extractions and completely denied what I had been told before.

I confronted her with the previous vet records, and she said she has the right to lie because she doesn’t like my attitude. We ended up getting into a screaming match, and now she says she won’t get him medical care in the future! 😀

His condition will continue to worsen and that he may not have much time left.

I’m heading off to college soon and was already planning to distance myself from both of my parents, as they’ve effectively disowned me for advocating for my dog.

And to address a couple of things: I’m a teenager with no financial freedom (no job and no access to my own bank account), and I also can’t drive. I don’t have any other relatives in this city, and I don’t have any trusted adults or friends I can turn to.

Even if I were able to get my dog help directly, I wouldn’t be able to pay any of the costs at all.

Queen’s Commerce vs Western BMOS + Ivey for someone interested in marketing/management

As the title suggests, I’m not planning on going into Wall Street/Bay Street or pursuing more quantitative business fields like accounting or finance. Numbers don’t really interest me.

Instead, I’m interested in marketing, management, or possibly law school in the future. Given that, which school would be a better fit?

Hi Western students,

I got into BMOS + Ivey AEO recently and I’m debating between it and McGill’s Desautels. I have a couple of questions:

  • Is Calculus (MATH 1000) a prerequisite course, or is it an elective? I’ve heard conflicting accounts that Statistics and Vectors are alternate options for math, but I’m not sure if that’s true. Please let me know.
  • Is BMOS competitive or more chill? I’m expected to maintain an 80+ average to keep my AEO status, and I’m wondering if that’s reasonably achievable.
  • How are courses structured, and what courses are mandatory in first and second year?
  • Is Western a major party school? I’ve heard conflicting opinions, but I’m an introvert who prefers to keep to myself. I’d like to make friends without feeling pressured to go to parties or step too far outside my comfort zone.
  • How is the London music scene? I’m an avid music enthusiast and would love to attend concerts and do record thrifting. Also, does UWO have a student radio? I’d definitely be interested in joining and potentially becoming an executive in a club.

Thank you so much in advance! :D

I have had my Havanese since I was nine and we're nine and eighteen right now. He's my best friend, and ever since he was four (and I was thirteen), I've felt extreme, unbearable anticipatory grief toward him and worry for his health.

A year ago, when he was eight, our vet reported he needs six of his teeth extracted ASAP as they were wobbly/rotten (he also had tendon problems; couldn't walk for a bit, but that seems to have resolved).

My parents didn't take the vet seriously and refuse to take her seriously even today. I've been worried for the past year, especially since they initially decided to get him a follow-up appointment in January, and then delayed indefinitely, before claiming he's a dog and he'll be fine without dental hygiene. (They claim the surgery's too expensive, yada, yada...before blowing a lot of money on vacation).

I have no say financially in the household since I'm an unemployed teen but I'm fearing the worst, since my dog seems more lethargic recently and I noticed he's been drinking water excessively, which can signify that the bacteria spread to his kidneys and he's slowly dying...Also can feel his ribs/seems to have lost some weight.

sorry for the downer + long rant, but I genuinely feel so much distress and grief right now and I don't know how to cope. he's my best friend and I don't know how long he has left and how to make my parents take his health seriously. no, I don't have any other family or close friends to help fund for his surgeries, or even another follow-up to see if he's doing OK.

I don't know if I'm being overdramatic either (and went down a rabbit role from my own research) and he's actually OK despite having six+ rotting teeth for over a year that have not been extracted or treated. sorry.

Edit: I talked my parents and they shouted and me and called me an "ungrateful" and "overdramatic" child who is pulling problems from her ass to complain about.

My dad says the dog's a wild animal who doesn't deserve medical treatment 💀. I'd also like to mention I have very little financial autonomy in this household and I cannot drive, so no, bringing my dog to a "low-income" vet or humane society is not a solution.
