How to add more eldritch horror elements to my story

I have a character who's supposed to be a descendant of an Eldritch alien. Her true form is a giant black blob with 6 yellow eyes, that's it. Her human form is that of a normal teenage girl. The only non-human things about her are that she looks like a cartoon come to life, her eyes are a dark blue and seem dead despite her hyper attitude, and her hair kinda moves. Her whole thing is that she feels more like a living cartoon. Heck, everything she creates is either super childish or extremely grandiose. She doesn't feel eldritch at all. Now, she's been around humans all her life, so she's fine internally, but externally, she feels generic. Blob body, lots of eyes, it feels too cartoony and not haunting, you know. I have some ideas, but if anyone wants to contribute, that would be nice.

Help with my framing device

So in my story, my characters are viewed by the general population as a TV show. My characters live in a pocket dimension, with the characters life being broadcasted by the eldritch entity in charge affecting earth's channels and using "metaphysical cameras" to record the characters. What I'm unsure of is how the show is formatted

The show is basically a reality show that shows all the characters' situations

The show is completely scripted, with some reality coming when a character breaks

It's mostly just the characters' real lives, but when it gets boring, my characters will get prompts for episodes/adventures

I have a big thing with my story where the in-universe audience and the real-life audience know different things, which number 2 would be the best at. The entity is called Grandpa by the characters and both runs the show and produces it. He can view the pocket dimension through a peek through the cosmic veil and he can hide things from the camera if he wants.

Advice for how to tackle my religious character

Ok, this is gonna be really long, but please bear with me. I'm trying to write a religious character (either Catholic or Protestant Christian), but I'm also worried I'm sending the wrong message with how her character development is going. My character has some very extreme beliefs that get deconstructed in the story. When I say that, I don't mean she's a bigot (love thy neighbor is very important to her), or that she's against medicine (in her eyes, if God didn't want people to use medicine, why could the human body be understood medically), or even thinking "rock and roll is the devil's music". Here is a list of some of her extreme beliefs:

  • She and her mom are thoroughly convinced that a demon is constantly possessing her and has been since her first baptism (or christening, again depends)
  • Genuinely believes that self-flagellation or flailing is a reasonable punishment for "fighting off the demon inside her"
  • She should avoid any sort of friendship with others since she could be led astray. And I don't mean like vagrants, literally even other kids at church who are just like watching normal YouTube videos, are bad because it would distract her from reading her bible.
  • She avoids all guys since it could lead her to temptation
  • She avoids anything that she could enjoy, like soft stuff, pink girly things, and writing stories, since it could distract her from her faith in her eyes
  • She actually avoids all general entertainment or fun, since again, she could be distracted
  • She believes that if what she writes doesn't involve God, it's not something she should do
  • She avoids general physical contact to avoid being distracted
  • She thinks psychiatrists are the same as psychics

I think there are some more, but this is it for now. The point is that she's very self isolated and is constantly scared of the possibility of her eternal damnation if she lets sin in. She a huge battle tale since in her eyes it's better the person gets taught is better than her turning a blind eye.

Her character arc is her learning to let herself enjoy things without panicking, and that theologically she's not possessed but she probably has some mental issues her passed down to her. But my main worry is that I'll accidentally say with her arc "you don't need to worry about the media and influences you consume and just have fun" with as a religious person I want to avoid. Her interests are mostly just wierd stories she made up and a western story she's writing. So any religious people or people in general with advice or just a general rating would be great, Thanks.

What was marketable in the early 90's

I'm trying to design a character who's supposed to be the embodiment of the "Cousin Oliver" trope. But more importantly, she's supposed to have a big space theme, and when I think of her, I imagine those glow-in-the-dark stars.

Would you change if you already learned your fate

Let's say one day you were told by whatever higher power or force of nature that you were predestined for heaven or hell (or whatever kind of afterlife you believe in if you do). Would you still try to be a good person if you're told you're predestined for hell, would you bother doing good if you know your heaven bound? And neither is it by anything theological, it's just arbitrary and just is. Or if you're not religious or would prefer a non-religious version, you're told by an official court of law that no matter what you do, you'll either be sent to jail (not forever) or always get away with it. Please, no religious arguments.

[TOMT] Help me find a youtube video

The video is an animated video that has a African-American little girl that grows to a teenager during the video. She lives in a liminal space as her home with other beings that are just shadows and the apparent mother figure is a real person but pixelated. Scenes that I can remember are: the main character crying in the car with her parents as a toddler, her playing with the shadow kids in the void with then changes to her arguing with those same kids as teenagers, her reaching for something. And there was no talking at all and it might have been a trailer.

Are my characters too unsympathetic/ too unempathetic

Ok, so this has been a problem with how I feel others will view my characters for a hot minute. My characters, especially my non-human characters, don't really care about how people feel. Especially not helping that the non-human characters are basically kids. The kids are also very prone to violence and/or very passive towards violence. The kids also don't really take any consideration towards death or people dying. Though this isn't meant to just be shock value. The kids don't have good authority figures for decades, with the figures either being passive in general, actively encouraging the kids' worst traits, or happily doing cruel things to the kids for entertainment or knowledge, so the kids' morals are a bit skewed. Though that isn't to say the kids have no morals, it's just that the kids gain an "if you're not family, I don't really care about you" mindset. And now, getting into the human characters, I have one girl who, during an emotional outburst, has her ice powers go haywire and accidentally kills some people, including her own parents. And yet she doesn't really dwell on it, mostly because right after she was taken by a secret government organization, she didn't really have time to grieve. And another who was raised in an alien-worshipping cult, and the people in the cult got taken by the aliens except for his parents, who organized the whole thing, and himself because the aliens weren't interested in him, and yet all he thinks about is how his whole life is a lie. The human characters aren't meant to be heartless, just focused on other things. But is this too much?

Is my character doing too much

I have a character whose catholic, who has a mother who heavily scarred her body as punishments/ to get her to fear Hell/ avoid sins. She has the following injuries

  • Heavy burns on her hands and part of her arms so bad it's blistering
  • Her tongue is completely burned to the point she can't taste anything
  • Her teeth have been removed as to not harm anyone when she gets in one of her frenzied states (long story)
  • Her eyes are sewn shut because her mother believes she doesn't deserve to see "the beauty that God created"
  • Several scars from her mother flailing her

And others have been to her to avoid sins like wearing unflattering clothes to not become vain, her hair is shaved off because she's a redhead and her mom believes that means she has no soul, and she wears thick gloves to not be distracted by material things.

So is this too edgy or are there ways to make it tragic with being too much, or is it fine.

Should I heal my characters disabilities

I have 3 characters who are disabled in some way

  • One girl is blind due to her mother taking the bible verse "If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell." way too literally
  • One boy has severe brain damage from his father's abuse. He's also dyslexic but that won't be removed
  • And one boy has a unnatural illness that's causing his everything to melt in a green goo

All three of these kids get healed the same way, via being transomed into a new being and the woman whose doing it is "being nice"

The first girl gets new eyes to see her friends, the second now can at least remember things better, has better emotional regulation, and fewer headaches. And the last is still crippled since he bones are too weak but the woman says it's because since his illness is anomalous she "can't do much"

So is all this offensive please let me know

Which choice should I make for my characters backstory

Ok, so this is gonna be a pseudo poll. I have three ways I could do my character's backstory. I have a character who blames herself for accidentally killing her brother, but I have it going three different ways.

  1. She actually does kill her brother by eating him
  2. Her brother died, but not by her own hands, and she woke up in the aftermath with his body and assumed the worst
  3. Her brother is still alive, but her parents lied to her

All of them involve her processing it and letting go since she wasn't in control.

Number 1 worries that it would be too gory

Number 2 seems fine, I guess

Number 3 is the one I wanna do, but it involves a kinda contrived moment of her mom faking her brother's bones to "teach her a lesson"

Why are people getting upset over people liking really sweet coffee

I'm if this is not what this subreddit is about, but please hear me out. Sometimes when I'm on YouTube, I'll see people making videos criticizing people who like those lots of caramel, vanilla pump and loads of whipped cream drinks, and people in the comments going "admit it, you don't like coffee, you just like sugar". First off, SO. Sometimes people prefer things sweet, and that's not a crime. I feel like an argument could be made for anyone altering the taste of food, like seasoning or dipping vegetables in sauces, but no one says anything about that. Honestly, I just feel as long as no one's forcing it on you, it's a non-issue

How to help disprove someones extreme beliefs (Not anti Catholic)

Ok, just to be clear, this is not an anti-Catholicism rant. Nor is this my story or a real story, but I just wanted some advice/ specific verses if anyone has any. Ok, so let's say there's a girl who was brought up by her mother to be extremely zealous towards her faith, or else she will be condemned to hell for all eternity. Now, when I say she (the girl) is zealous, I don't mean she's gonna yell that you're going to hell if you don't convert or hates anyone that isn't Catholic (love thy neighbor, of course).

What I mean is she has a lot of internalized issues and thinks the only genuine way to be a proper Catholic is to do nothing but read the Bible (and any other Catholic literature that you're supposed to, but mostly the Bible) and go to church. She avoids any sort of relationship except with her close family, not to be led astray, and I don't just mean with non-Catholics. She's heavily physically scarred and burned, and has no due to being a redhead.

But more importantly, she pushes her mind and body to the limit so as to be keeping with the 7 virtues , especially avoiding a boy she likes and refusing to allow herself to enjoy things. She self-isolates and harshly "corrects" herself and says that "no one in the Bible has friends so I shouldn't either"

So I'm super sorry if this an inappropriate thing to ask but if someone were try and rebuttal her views especially with verses what ones would be used. And I'm will to add more details if anyone wants.

To what extent is "Honor thy mother and father" if the parents are abusive

This is a mix of a hypothetical and also something that's been on my mind for a bit. Let's say someone has an abusive mother both physically and emotionally constantly claiming her daughter is the antichrist (sorry if you guys don't believe in that I'm not that well versed in Catholicism) and harms her severly. And her father is very passive and neglectful. Her mother genuinely beliefs she's in the right and even years after her daughter is taken away from her and the two talk again, she is in no way apologizing to her daughter. But the daughter is conflicted on weather to forgivebher mother or not. This isn't about me just so no one is concerned.

Pt.1 Noelle Character Development Help Please

Hello, sorry if the title is weird, but I would really like some feed back/criticisms of my character Noelle, as well as help with her character.

Now what I was going for is someone who, despite her privileged upbringing, hates injustice and stands up for others, but knows, due to a past failure, she needs to fight it from the inside out. Get concrete info first, and make sure the people you're showing it to are on your side and don't let your emotions overwhelm you.

But what I have instead is that she's very passive, mostly in the background, and her character is mostly revolved around being the sane best friend to my punk character (who she sometimes uses her music to convey a message) and having a crush on her male mirror world self (long story).

Her personality is

  • Aloof
  • Emotional
  • Sarcastic

And it's not like the story is lacking opportunity for her to do it, but it's usually very basic, or someone else takes the lead.

Now her lack of taking action could be a tragic portrayal of her losing her ideals, but I'm not sure.

Symbolism with my character design

I have a character who an anthropomorphic wolf. But it's never really utilized and doesn't really fit her elements. She can creates spores that can do different things, she has a theme of sleep, both filming and being filmed, and in some way feeling seperated from her sibling and peers. I think I should make her more like those dogs that are more for accessory then existing. But what do you all think.

I need assistence deciding my characters backstory

I have a character who is, let's just say for simplicity, and alien. Her origins is that she was part of a bigger hive mind that, through reasons that correspond with my different backstory ideas, she detacted from and is now living in a pocket dimension with humans. I have a few ideas for her back story but I'm not sure which works best.

  1. She was accidentally summoned by a cult and after running off and possessed a little girl whose body she found floating in an abandoned lake. She was eventually picked up by a secret government facility and eventually placed with a group of characters and get sent into the pocket dimension with everyone
  2. Instead of taking over the girls body she simply copied the girls appearance and used it to work her way into getting a home until she got caught.
  3. She was brought in actively by the pocket dimension by it's "director" in order to be a character
  4. She kinda wanders into the pocket dimension and infects everyone's memories to think she's always been around and is one of the character's half sister
  5. She still wanders in but instead shes kinda just excepted as the new girl in town and isn't questioned until a bit later in the story (the other characters are kinda passive to newbies)
  6. She was used as a vessels by one of the characters parents for a cult sacrifice (the same one she pretended to be the half sister of) but he ends up saving her

Two things that are gonna be consistent bo matter what is that A.her powers eventually get out of control due to some reason and her friends have to stop her and B. she has identity issues, though how prevalent it is to her varies. Backstories involving cults would probably have a better reason why it happens especially sine she has symbolism to red. And while her whole thing is that she can't feel emotions and she's super aloof, just shoving her in there doesn't feel right. And because she's meant to have a pseudo- sibling in one of my characters so there should be something with him but I'm not sure.

I often avoid videos talking about problems in the world or if I come across it I will immediately delete it and try and distract myself. Am I a bad person

I have a consistent habit where if I see something that upsets me (usually involving politics or general bad things in the world) I delete it and try to take my mind off of it with the internet or YouTube or my story writing. But I feel awful with certain topics since it feels like I'm saying I don't care which I'm not. My main reason is that when I see stuff that upsets me it sticks in my head and I can't get rid of it. Look I very much do care and I hate what certain people do and society at large, but I also know that I can't do anything or change anything about it. And because when I hear something bad I can't get it out an depending on what it is I can start crying. My main thought process that it's not good to dwell on things that will just upset you and to avoid it. But I also feel like I'm being obtuse by actively avoid certain things and then that thing is still on my mind when I'm trying to do something else. So am I bad person and doing something bad or am I over thinking it.

OC Redesign Help Pt.2

This is part 2 of my redesign series, this time with another OC, Cindy Warbler. Here are some traits I'm trying to do

  • She's a punk kinda girl
  • Wears a lot of dark colors, but also doesn't mind a good variety
  • Is trying to stand out and doesn't mind looking a bit extra
  • She is an anthropomorphic bird who has a body more akin to a plush doll (What bird species specifically, I'm not sure, but if anyone here has any good ideas, that would be great, preferably either a mockingbird or one with a horrible chirp/cry.)
  • One thing I'm having the hardest time with showing is that she's from the 90s/ early 2003's, specifically up to 2003, and her clothes don't look at all period accurate, and I also don't know which is more accurate to the times, punk (Pic #1) or grunge (Pic #2).
  • She's supposed to be more reminiscent of Avril Lavigne if that helps
  • This is the code: OR1JPLF2X, so you can edit her and if you show me a redesign, that would be great for some help. I'm so sorry if I'm doing this wrong or asking too much, but some visual aids would be very nice.

OC Redesign

Here is my redesign of my OC, Noelle. Thank you to everyone who gave me some ideas. I went much darker for her color palette since darker colors trap in more heat than light-colored clothes (I think). The original design is the first slide, with the redesign on the second, and the third is still the redesign with more noticeable features.

Oc redesign help

I really would like some advice/help with redesigning my oc Noelle. Here are some traits I'm trying to do

Always freezing so she wears heavy winter clothes

Is still trying to be feminine and adds a skirt

Has an affluent upbringing but her clothes here feel to plain

She an anthropomorphic sheep who has a body more akin to a plush doll (the second picture shows it more clearly I think

I don't HATE it but I don't love it either and I think it could be better and less mushed together so if any one has any advice I would love it.

This is the code:Z1R6Y53PQ so you can edit her and if you show me a redesign that would be great for some help. I'm so sorry if I'm doing this wrong or asking to much but some visual aids would be very nice.
