I finished it! - Don’t do what I did though 💀

Completed my first ever marathon yesterday! 42.2km completed in 4hrs38mins.

DONT DO WHAT I DID - I planned my marathon prep to be a total of 16 weeks. The first 8 weeks I smashed it and didn’t miss a single session. Then I missed an entire week due to unforeseen circumstances and from there I missed another 2 weeks from just not getting back into routine. I tried to do get back into the swing of things and pick up where I left off in week 12. Got that done but then got lazy again and just didn’t run a single run until race day.

This race at about the 30km mark absolutely murdered me! I was on track to finish around the 4 hour mark until my body just began to tell me how badly it hurt. Muscles were flirting with the idea of cramping the entire time from 33km right up until 38km before I just mentally dug in and ran the rest of the way to the finish line. I managed to run the whole way but my pace seriously dropped off during these 5km of hell.

I am convinced I was only able to finish this race due to a solid base of fitness from years of competitive sports. If I had not of had that base I would NOT have finished this race without the proper training. I am paying the price for the lack of training body wise today.

Beginner fiction reader needs a new book

For context new to reading and about to finish my first ever fiction book! Reading The Hike by Drew Magary.

Read this book because I was told it was an easy way to get into reading. I am not a fantasy kind of guy but I have definitely come around to this book.

Thinking maybe going down the crime path for the second one? Or if anyone thinks of another book a beginner reader should pick up let me know.

Thank you all in advance.

Need to dress in suits more often!

Scared that when my hair finally leaves my head I’ll be stuck without being able to grow a solid beard..

Will the moustache hold up in replace of a beard!?

Tips to enjoy reading?

Hi everyone!

I have a partner who loves to read. Every night she can’t wait to climb into bed and pick up where she left off the night before in her book.

I was thinking that might be a way to enjoy doing something she likes to do with her.

I have a hard time getting into books, my mind wanders and I can’t read unless there’s absolute silence.

Any tips or tricks to make reading more enjoyable? Or any tricks to read for greater lengths of time?

Had 3 weeks off in a row - Am I cooked?

For context marathon prep is 16 weeks in length

I got up to week 8 before unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances had to take a week off training which then lead to another 2 weeks of being lazy and not training at all. So 3 weeks in a row I hadn’t ran.

Last weekend I checked the program and I had a 30km long run. Previously the longest run I had completed was 22km

So I have ran the 30km non stop on the weekend, granted I felt like I had been hit by a truck the next day. 5 weeks until the marathon am I cooked or should be back on track if I complete all runs within the next 5 weeks?

Future plans to be comfortable in life

Hi all,

I (29M) have a young family at home these days and we are about to sell a unit I bought back in 2020 and move us into a well needed bigger home.

This has got me thinking about the future of my family and the steps to now take to ensure we are comfortable throughout life.

For context I come from a family who has never invested in property or shares but have been good with their saving and spendings. My parents have paid off their home and now retired. So I have never had an issue with saving ect but never put any plans in place to become “wealthy” if that makes sense.

I earn 110k a year and my partner around 85k. Currently I am salary sacrificing $300 a fortnight into my super. My partner intends to go to part time work once child 2 comes along hopefully some time next year.

So with that all being said my question is: What steps should I take going forward to ensure my family is financially stable their whole lives? I’m not looking to have a portfolio that’s millions of dollars but I just want to be able to give them everything they need whilst still thinking about later in life.

- Continue salary sacrificing
- Make extra mortgage repayments
- Build an emergency fund

Is there anything else? I just don’t have the financial savviness to know what else I can be doing.

Thank you for your time!

Might be a bit biased but a suit and stash combo works well every time!

22M from Australia looking to make new long term mates!

Hey everyone!

Would love to make some new friends online, I have quite a bit of time on my hands whilst at working during the week and well it’s kind of fun meeting strangers on the internet and talking to them.

I am a quick replier, can keep a conversation going about most topics and I’ve been told I’m quite easy to talk to which is a great compliment.

Don’t by shy! Everyone is welcome to shoot me a message 💪🏼

Open face helmet options

Hi everyone!

I am looking to see what open face helmets everyone uses that don’t have that mushroom head look.

Currently rocking the M2R prime Helmet from AMX but as you can guess it’s not the slim looking I was after unfortunately.

22M - Got way too much time on my hands today!

I’ve got an easy day at work on my hands which means I’ll be found doom scrolling on my phone unless someone reaches out for a chat!

I’m easy going and very easy to talk to, I can keep a conversation going to problem or if you just need someone to vent to I’m a great listener..

Anything and everything welcome, just come and say hello 👋🏼

Practicing carb loading

For reference I am training for my marathon using the Hal Higdon Novice 2 plan.

I have never carb loaded before so that’s something I want to practice before race week. I’ll be doing a 3 day carb load starting Thursday for a Sunday race day.

My question: At what distance long runs should I start practicing the carb loading? My 29km, 31km and 33km long runs? Those will be my longest 3 runs.

Forerunner music 245 upgraded to..?

I have had my forerunner music 245 since the beginning of time, I have started prepping for an ultra marathon and I am wondering is there much perks to upgrading to something else?

I must admit I haven’t really dived into the capabilities of this Garmin watch other than recording runs, walks, strength training and uploading a few run workouts.

Do I just save my money and keep this watch or is the upgrade going to be worth it?

My partner and I are going to be starting the pre approval process shortly to move out of my 2 bedroom unit and into something bigger now we have a little one running around.

Future plans sound like a second child is to come and my partner is wanting to go to part time work until both kids are off to primary school.

My question is around planning for the future, buying a property that we can afford once we go from two full time incomes to one and half.

- How can I find out what we can afford when that scenario comes into play?
- Ideally I’d love to keep the unit and rent it out if affordable, are these things doable with one income?

Apologies if this is the wrong chat to ask these sorts of questions!

Am I bent over enough to be hitting my back efficiently? Limited to squat rack, barbells and adjustable dumbbells so bent over rows seem like a good choice for a back exercise.
