The last level sucks

I just finished the non-vr version of the game for the second time, and I love it, it’s the most innovative shooter ive seen in years. that being said the last part of the last level is hot garbage. the first second or two is interesting and fun to figure out, but after that its just a total clusterfuck and not fun at all. the difficulty mostly comes from getting shot in the back 900 times until you memorize the order of enemy spawns, because they’re constantly coming from both directions and their gunshot sounds are usually masked by the constant shooting you have to be doing and that glass shattering sound. its the only level that took me continued attempts, and also the only one that actively pissed me off. it feels like they really dropped the ball for whats supposed to be the climax, more enemies doesn’t mean more fun, and it seriously drags on.
idk if this is a hot take, but if it is please be chill 🙏

I hate this guy’s videos.

This is a tough one for me because i enjoy the stuff he used to do like in the video pictured, just simple breakdowns of embarrassing mistakes done by a withering company (bethesda). but as time has gone on he seems to have gained confidence and that confidence has translated to conservative-slop jokes about California and overweight women, or just insanely stupid comments upon balancing or actual game design, subjects he clearly doesn’t understand. bethesda’s balancing is absolutely terrible, but his solutions are equally awful. no brandy, it wouldn’t be balanced if every single gun functioned exactly as it does in real life, and killed every enemy in 1-2 hits, with the same ammo type it has in real life even when that would make gathering ammunition 10 times harder and more annoying to find. no brandy, explosive weapons shouldn’t have the blast radius of two entire rooms, with extremely high velocity and enough damage to instantly obliterate enemies like they do in real life, they should just do more damage and enemies in general should have less health. his ideas are just what this one guy who seems to like guns more than he likes video games thinks, and its so annoying how confidently wrong he is when he acts like the fun nitpicking he does constitutes actual, deep flaws in the games he talks about. it is funny and extremely embarrassing that bethesda cant even manage to make coherent animations for a shotgun after a decade of designing guns, but that doesn’t mean they’re a cabal of “liberal californians” who dont know how to design games at all.

19tf looking for someone to play ffXIV with

I know this might be a little too specific for this sub, but to explain, all of my friends are fem or gay or both, and they all hate mmos. so im looking for ppl who are fem & gay and *love* mmos. i really wanna learn this game and get into it, but i also have the regrettable habit of convincing myself something will become my entire personality, and then quickly losing interest. so in case that happens! here are some other at least partly online games i play a lot to see if we’ll line up anyways: elden ring, nightreign, helldivers, cod, bg3, mgsV (UNDERRATED ONLINE MODE) ac6 and of course my beloved concord and highguard 🥹 ok ty please comment!!

edit: i will also need much teaching about how the game works. just the server/world system made my brain hurt 😔

Where do I start in practicing/learning to shade in this style?

this first pic is a piece i saw on tiktok (@spider_artz) so I’m just using this as an example, as seeing it reminded me of how long I’ve wanted to learn this sort of thing. I’m specifically looking for tips on shading using only two tones in this thick, heavy manner. I’ve always loved how it looks in comics and ttrpg rulebooks from the 90s and 00s. the thing is, im mostly used to shading with a wide spectrum of values, and i find it so difficult to block out where shadows go when i have to fully commit to either black or white. The second picture is an attempt i made a while ago, just testing out how it felt and it was… awkward. any tips would be appreciated.

How would you design Sapient species developed from creatures other than apes?

So im doing some early concept stuff right now, and part of my concept for this setting is slightly grounding the traditional ideas of elves, humans and orcs. im planning for there to be these three species originating in different landmasses that appear and communicate similarly due to convergent evolution. my “elf” species is to be evolved from creatures similar to deer, or cervidae in general. and there’s another im currently thinking of as developed from something similar to short faced bears. the thing is, i want all three to be bipedal, at least partly furless, with opposable thumbs and vocal capabilities similar enough to speak one another’s languages. im not looking for a way to make this make more sense scientifically, im aware convergent evolution at this size and scale is extremely unlikely. what im looking for is tips for designing these features while retaining those qualities that make them visibly unique. i was thinking the elves could still have thick keratin on their hands, with three fingers on each including thumbs. ideas like that or tips on my process would be great.

Is this different than silicon dreams? if so, what is it?

I’ve been looking for a name to put to this stuff, after searching the sub I found the term silicon dreams, but to me it’s just not quite what im looking for. most of the examples of that aesthetic i can find are very surreal and bright, i know the actual definition is simply early 2000s/90s 3d graphics, but to me its just too broad. i think old isometric or point and click games from this period had a specific feel to them that’s much more focused. They’re grim, heavy and sort of industrial. included are pictures from the games Harvester, Fallout 2, The Desolate Hope, and fnaf 1. obviously scott cawthon’s games are much more recent, but i feel they fit the criteria, lots of bleak red and purple skies, giant structures of humanoid or mechanical forms, and of course that low res quality to all these early 3d models.

When am I supposed to start understanding the plot?

I know that this game is supposed to be very mysterious, and a big part of the story is the fact you have to figure out who you are and whats going on, but i keep worrying i may have passed the point in the story where im supposed to “get it”. right now artemis is having me build signal boosters so i can keep searching for them, but i still dont really know why im doing that, or who they are. i’m also often confused by the people on the anomaly, some of them reference this “crimson liar” thing, does that have anything to do with the under a rebel star questline? am i supposed to know any of this information yet or am i ruining the game for myself by asking too early?

Where do people find ships like this?

I was really proud of my custom built starship until i came back to the anomaly and saw what other players have. where do they get these? they look so different from most of the ships npcs have (3rd picture is my own)

So im going to be placing this game in the late medieval period, around the middle of the hundred years war, in england. (i haven’t decided on a specific year yet.) I want this to be somewhat historically accurate, but the thing I’ve been struggling with is that while its easy to find tons of information on political events and major conflicts, the smaller details are harder to find. I hate the idea of prominently including something that hasnt been invented/concieved of yet, and im not sure how people of the time would talk and interact. So to anyone who’s done this before, how did you get the information to properly build up your setting?

im not good with this stuff, so there’s probably something obvious im missing here, but i seriously dont get why this is happening, none of the reasons i could find online for something like this seem to apply.

asking on here since i don’t know how a bruise could be straight in the middle like that. searched the subreddit and couldn’t find an example quite like this.
