1. Mixing was a racist policy, not proof of harmony. Argentina's blanqueamiento (whitening) project used miscegenation as a tool to eliminate Indigenous and Black populations through assimilation. It was explicitly eugenic, designed to "improve" the citizenry by eliminating "inferior" populations.

2. The 44% of European-descended Argentines are not innocent. Section 25 of the Argentine Constitution states: "The Federal Government shall foster European immigration; and may not restrict, limit or burden with any tax whatsoever, the entry into the Argentine territory of foreigners who arrive for the purpose of tilling the soil, improving industries, and introducing and teaching arts and sciences."

3. The "Conquest of the Desert" (1878-1885) was a genocide. It was an "attempt to exterminate and relocate" Indigenous peoples. White immigrants benefited from land stolen from Indigenous peoples.

4. The Black population didn't just "mix away." They were erased. In the early 19th century, Afro-descendants made up a third of Buenos Aires' population. They were used as cannon fodder in wars like the War of the Triple Alliance, decimated by disease like yellow fever in 1871, and subjected to a "discursive genocide." They were erased from censuses with no racial categories from 1895 to 2010, from textbooks, and from national memory.

As one academic source puts it:

"No cabe duda de que una parte de aquel proceso pueden haber sido las malas condiciones de vida, la participación en las guerras, el mestizaje, la baja fecundidad y alta mortalidad, etc., pero pensamos que una buena parte corresponde, tal como postuló Andrews (1989) a los cambios producidos en las categorías censales hasta que ellas dejan de consignarse, 'blanqueando' progresivamente la población de castas."

Translation: "There is no doubt that part of that process may have been poor living conditions, participation in wars, miscegenation, low fertility and high mortality, etc., but we think that a good part corresponds, as Andrews (1989) postulated, to the changes produced in the census categories until they ceased to be recorded, progressively 'whitening' the population of castes."
