Viral ‘Neil the seal’ faces potential euthanasia amid public safety concerns

Why do authorities (rightfully) protect sharks from being culled despite them actually killing people from time to time but Neil doesn’t get that treatment.

Redirecting Tiger Sharks in the event of one attacking you is not going to help.

Most of the time these videos have taken place in the very controlled environments with multiple other divers and of course trained professionals and the shark being quite docile.

In the event of an attack or bite you’ll most likely be alone and not even see the shark even coming even if it’s for a test bite. A Tiger Shark doing a full on ambush attack even if you see it coming is not gonna be affected by a redirection on the nose, its going at most of its speed and power, its impossible to do that.

These Tik Tok and instagram videos showing divers do this alongside some peaceful or playful background music promote harmful expectations and realities of sharks and their relationship with humans. We should all collectively these videos out NOT JUST THE OFEAN RAMSAY ONES all of them.

Why is there such a double standard with Norways and Icelands whaling program compared to Japan?

On the surface I can understand, Japan has a more illegal way of doing and they do hunt considerably more endangered species.

But on the other hand, in Norway and Iceland whaling is staunchly defended as ethical practice and minke whales are incredibly abundant despite the strong potential long consequences of that with killing more whales in total than Japan and concentrated on one species.

What are the consequences that Australia could face if we sanction Israel?

Like think about it, I’m against Israel too but, do you think it’s a bit risky to outright sanction Israel? Hows the United States gonna respond? Will we get the New Zealand treatment of being militarily and diplomatically sanctioned for nearly 20 years? Or will we get the French treatment after opposing the Iraq War suffering only a minor diplomatic fallout for a few years with the US.

What are the underlying consequences of Australia taking a huge step like this?

What is going on with NSW police?

Like seriously why are standing for these guys? For months these guys have been engaging in over the top enforcement against protesters, petty offences and generally just being also ineffective against domestic violence issues.

Why I enjoyed Urbanspooks The Painter and why I think its controversial

I’m a guy who likes morbid stuff, I listen and play brutal slamming death metal on guitar, i like a bit of black comedy here and there and I generally also like a lot of splatter punk or extreme horror. And I gotta say, when I checked out the Painter for the first time, it absolutely terrified me, from the storyline, the sound design, the paintings themselves and the overall concept. I had sleep paralysis for months because of it, because i was so scared that mona and bill was gonna come ‘tickle’ me at night. Overall meaning, that Urbanspook, got me, meaning I liked it.

Besides some of urbans tweets which tbf probably was for rage baiting purposes, i honestly feel like the painter was meant for an audience who was more used to extreme splatter punk horror. There hasn’t really been a lot of ‘serial killer’ analog horror apart from a few small projects and if u count fnaf vhs and later foxymations.

Alongside lesser extreme material like the walten files or gemini home entertainment who focused more on an engaging story and nuance rather than pure scariness didn’t really prepare a lot of people for something like the painter. Even to the point of comparing it to Megan is missing (comparing it to a literal exploitation film)

It’s kind of similar to twelvemanops FNAF vhs and that famous intro involving…well a deep fryer. A lot of fnaf vhs material at that point when it came to for example depicting the missing children’s incident used very vague or implied representations of the murders rather than outright showing them and even worse showing it at such an extreme face value.

I don’t really understand why in visual media and especially within the general horror community about wanting to shoe horn nuance into darker subjects when so many other art forms use things like blunt force shock value as apart of its identity. So much of extreme horror and the lyrics and artwork of Brutal or Slam Death Metal uses that as apart of its identity because it embraces the chaos and absurdity of the whole thing and again is meant to disturb and act as counter culture

And according to urbanspook himself, most of the whole purpose of the painter was to be counter culture and to disturb audiences, and overall, he got the job done, he made one of the most polarising but famous analog horrors on the internet, like it or not thats a big achievement.

I don’t really understand why in visual media and especially within the general horror community about wanting to shoe horn nuance into darker subjects when so many other art forms use things like blunt force shock value as apart of its identity. So much of extreme horror and Brutal Death Metal uses that as apart of its identity because it embraces the chaos and absurdity of the whole thing and again is meant to disturb and act as counter culture.

Overall my point is that analog horrors like urbanspooks the painter was polarising because at the time most analog horrors didn’t engage in that much extreme/splatter or true crime material, therefore reaching an audience who was just not used to that alongside highly publicised and outrage over a few rage baiting tweets and urban being a bit of douche.

The Old Bridge was a good episode

I think this episode was a very mature depiction of trauma and no matter how wise we are, trauma can affect anybody. I don’t even think it was a mischaracterisation of skarloey as again, trauma can affect anybody no matter how wise we are.

Do the lightning strike, cows and coconut death statistics compared with shark attacks per capita count?

Ive seen these thrown around a lot when discussing shark attacks, I don’t think they reassure a lot since we live on land.

But I’m wondering for any statistics experts here do these actually add up per capita and what not when it comes human exposure.

Is a general fear of sharks really as irrational as we like to make it out to be?

Think about it for a second, if you are physically next to a White Shark in South Australia, one wrong move could easily be fatal or cause massive injury. A shark attack is very rare but the chances of it increases once you enter the water and even more so if you swim further out.

Why can’t we promote a healthy fear of larger shark species and protect them at the same time. I think shark environmentalism especially in australia would be less polarising to some people if we focused less on downplaying the obvious danger large sharks can be to humans and more about shark attack and show that despite all of that, they deserve to be protected just like Lions, tigers and other predatory animals around the world.

Is the idea that sharks are ‘man eaters’ really as persistent of a narrative we like to make it out to be?

I think partly yes, but partly no. I think most news media does a pretty bad job with portraying sharks objectively in terms of making them look like man eaters or why we should cull them. I also see this demographic a lot on social media platforms such as facebook with a dominant right wing boomer adjacent demographic. Most right wing politicians right here in Australia such as Bob Katter call for these type of culls too.

But i also think it swings the other way to some shark environmentalists in depicting sharks as cute puppies on most social media which outright downplays the danger of large shark species such as, bull, tiger or white sharks. And also perpetuating statistics surrounding shark attack risk to lightning or car crash which per capita just doesn’t add up to anything.

Why are shark attacks on spear fisherman usually considered provoked? And is it justified?

I think it’s a bit vague to call all spear fisherman attacks provoked as it doesn’t take into account wherever or not they actually have a fish on them or not.
