Jacy Sheldon

10.8 points, 3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 50/38.5/100 split.

I got bashed for calling it a stupid trade. I thought it would've been good to start her and bring Georgia along slowly.

Think the Sky would take the trade back?

Aces and Carter

Can't get an objective opinion on the Aces board so curious if anyone here has thoughts.

Even when Jackie Young is shooting 0-11, she stays on the court 34 minutes while Carter gets 21 minutes while shooting 7-14. Carter clearly should be the starter at this point.

It's almost like the Aces need to make sure they get the benefit of having her on the team without drawing attention to the unfair advantage it gave them to sign a player the teams seemed to blacklist last year. As though the fact that it's a new year excuses the action.

It wouldn't be a good look if the only reason they repeat is because they did what other teams avoided doing for the benefit of the league, because the other teams weren't being selfish.

Is the team rebuilt?

This was difficult to convey during the off-season so I wonder if it's easier to see now. We tend to get caught up in semantics like rebuilding and lose track of the actual process and milestones.

This team was already rebuilt before the draft and before free agency began. They had two young all stars, and Shakira and Georgia. I'm not sure why so many couldn't see it then. How do you define a rebuilding team? A team without at least one all star? A team with glaring holes in at least two positions? The Mystics didn't fit any definition of a rebuilding team, plus they had 3 first round picks, plus they had more cap space than anyone in the league.

The draft hadn't occurred yet but the chronology simply didn't matter. The draft wasn't going anywhere, they were guaranteed to add more talent to the rebuilt roster they already had. We just didn't know exactly who. The team was not still rebuilding.

Take away Onyenwere's roster spot and the team would have $2.5 million in cap space. Imagine if they went hard at Gabby Williams, who took so long to sign with a team that she clearly was waiting for the best offer. Her defense probably would've made a difference against the Liberty.

And the final rub is that it wouldn't have impacted the teams ability to make more moves this year, next year or the year after. Even if they had signed Gabby to a max instead of Onyenwere for 700k, they would still be sitting on $1.5 million in cap space now.

The team is rebuilt and is a playoff contender. If I had the foresight to see this team could already be a title contender with Sonia and Kiki in just the second year of cheap rookie contracts, there's no excuse for management to not have seen it.

Maybe some if you still aren't getting this. But for those of you who were rude as puck and do get it now, I hope you learn to consider that maybe sometimes you're the ones not getting the concept. it was a mistake to not be active in free agency.

Watching Mystics blow 14 point lead

Makes me realize how much they have in common with the Wings. Enough talent to take a big lead against any team, enough inexperience to blow it.

I think both teams will be .500 at mid season and then blast into the playoffs.

Play Li

When Paige is active and defenders are gravitating to her, there never seems to be anyone she can lob the ball into inside. She's always stuck looking around the perimeter.

Anyone know why Li isn't even getting a chance?

A Paige out of Mabrey's book

Marina Mabrey just chucked up 11 3-pointers, some of them absolute chucks, and the Toronto Tempo are now 1-1. They lost their opener by 3 points and Mabrey is averaging 27 points.

Paige > Marina. Dallas won't reach their potential until Paige gets more aggressive. Arike actually looks like she's trying to play team ball but no one else wants to take the shot.

Have to agree with Caitlin. Any competent team would kill to have her. Mystics are still way under the minimum spending requirement.

She's only making 650k on a one year deal and she's spoken out about her contract. I can't imagine she wouldn't have come to DC for a fully guaranteed two year contract at 1 million per year. She's exactly what the team needs.

I know most of you still won't understand but giving her a contact like that wouldn't impact the team this year or next. They have to spend the money anyways so right now they're paying Onyenwere more than Sophie and they'll have to do one or two more moves like that.
