Carfdarko's Chiptune Contest #02 - Racing!
Gentleman, start your engines!
As the theme for this month is:
Racing!
Time to hit the road, bring me the most epic song to race, drift, cruise, no matter what, as long as it helps setting a better lap time or enhance the road trip it's vibe!
We're riding with the following rules:
- Two weeks for each contest (14 days)
- This contest runs from June 29th until the 12th of July.
- Followed by Lap 2 with 6 days to bring out your vote so I can announce the contest winner on Sunday 19th of July
- The submission has to be chiptune but like before that is vaguely defined, I don't care what you use and how you use it*, as long as it makes me want to dust off that good ol' classic system because your epic music is giving me an urge to kill something pixelated!!
- Only one submission per artist name.
Submissions can be dropped here:
This contest is just for fun only, besides a badge of honor there are no other prizes to win, but ending up with a fresh track with your name on it is always an achievement in itself!
And to end this announcement I just drop the most amazing arcade driving game ever:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELUl-cAtUIE
*We're not a fan of AI over here, if in doubt I WILL ask you for proof that the song truly has been created with any of the known tools to create those good ol' vibes the good ol' ways.
[Weekly!] What is the favorite part you ever wrote?
I would love to have some more conversation going on on this sub, there is so much creativity and knowledge to be shared!
So, I will try to drop a question every Wednesday that hopefully can lead to fun discussions and maybe some discoveries!
For this week the question is: What is the favorite part you ever wrote in a song?
Hard question, I know, especially for those who have been writing since ages but sometimes you write a song that just have THAT ONE AMAZING PART that truly ties the room together!
I would love to hear your favorite part of one of your own tracks! It's not about the whole song, it's just about that little part that MADE the song for you personally!
[CONTEST]Monthly contest results are in!
With 11 points Blippydoo is leaving behind everyone, kicking the boss out of this realm, once and for all!
zlhdbg managed to give a final blow with 6 points!
Phoenix Down didn't need any Phoenix Down at all to stay in the game and takes third place with 5 points.
PCREMA and CarfDarko share the 4th place and are saluting the winners from a distance with both 4 points each.
Frédéric Guigand was disqualified for use of AI, a thing that won't be tolerated at all in the future but was discovered a bit too late.
Now turn up your speakers and celebrate Blippydoo's track one more time!
Next contest starting in two weeks!
For now, keep up the creativity and stay awesome!
What is your personal chiptune origin story?
I'm always interested in people's background and how they got into what they do.
For me the first time it hit me was the Outrun arcade game and Space Harrier (they where both in the same arcade).
Both games had something... Different, it was Synthy, a thing I already admired back then but it did something extra, it helped to make the game I was playing more FUN and motivated me as a player to absolutely do my best to try and stay around in that world as long as I could.
The introduction of even being able to write music myself digitally was when I discovered Pro-Tracker on the Amiga500. It was halfway '90s, no internet with youtube tutorials, kinda trying to find my way blindly but the curiosity helped me keep on going until things finally started to make sense.
It still took another 10 year before I finally started to release music on Newgrounds and another 10 before I finally landed on chiptunes itself but when it did... I was kinda like, why didn't I start writing this sooner?
So tell me, what brought you to this place?
Hi I'm Carf Darko, your new friendly neighbourhood mod!
Sup world!
Long time visitor and long/part-time music creator (and other things related), you know... Creative dude like a lot of other awesome creators around here!
Today I was asked to become one of the new mods to keep things cool around here, although I know that in general things already go smoothly, it's always nice to have people around to make sure it stay that way.
Now that the formalities are out of the way, I'm excited to dive a bit deeper into the world I have been part of for a long time but never truly dived into the community.
Right now the first thing I would love to put my time and effort in is the monthly contest.
Started by the awesome u/MrKathooloo a few years ago and who I haven't seen around for a while, I wanted to bring new life into this event and I dare everyone in this sub to participate!!
For me personally contest like these always motivates me write things I would not have written otherwise and it's always great to be challenged on a creative level. It also helps me to do more with what I always love to play around with, my little playground in RPGMaker, where my creative alter-ego lives in his own realm and shares projects with the world, like my latest project where I played the six songs for this months contest in my pixelated club, and I hope to make a lot more of them, hoping to also make this a monthly thing :)
For now keep up the creativity, I love being around creative like minded people with a love for everything oldschool.
Feel free to drop me a line, a listen to whatever, tech support... Mod stuff...
But never forget:
Retro never gets old <3

CarfDarko's Chiptune Contest #1: Submit Here!
Wazzup awesome people, it has been a while since the last contest and it seems MrKathooloo has been on a hiatus regarding the event so... I felt like why not try and kick start this lovely event myself?
For my first edition of the contest I like to start out wild:
Epic Boss Battle
These kind of contest always make me write things I would not have written otherwise and it's just fun to hear the different ideas regarding the prompt.
I am going to keep the rules (mostly) the same:
Two weeks for each contest (14 days)
This contest runs from 18 until 31 of May.
6 days for voting so I can announce the contest winner on Sunday.
The submission has to be chiptune but like before that is vagualy defined, I don't care what you use and how you use it, aslong as it makes me want to dust off that good ol' classic system because your epic music is giving me an urge to kill something pixelated!!
Only one submission per artist name.

Inspiration on how not to prepare for battle:
Growing up in the 80's I was always more of a PC and SEGA kid myself.
Got to give the little man his well deserved credits for helping ME out many times lol!
The first games that come up are TMNT 1 and Ninja Gaiden on NES but I am sure there is more out there which truly has that DON'T GIVE UP hardcore vibe the tribulation mode offers.
