Help! Off centre wall hanging (on wallpaper)

Help! Off centre wall hanging (on wallpaper)

I’ve had a hollow iron wall hanging placed over my bed and I’ve realised even though it’s centered on the wall, where I place the bed it’s off centre to it.

I can’t move the bed further to the left as there is a large chest of drawers not pictured and it would take up too much space.

The problem of course is we can’t simply re do the hanging to the right and patch the holes because I have wallpaper underneath.

How hard is it to saw / cut through hollow iron? I’m trying to figure out if trimming a bit off the end of the left side might be the ‘easiest’ fix.

EDIT:

We’ve centered the bed as much as we can (maybe 95% of the way there) while retaining enough room to get to the en-suite.

Now that everything else is in, it doesn’t look as bad - see pics in comments.

On the upside, it means that when we have a baby, we now have room to fit a cot on the right side.

Lower abdomen pain and flu like symptoms?

I started feeling sick yesterday initially with flu like symptoms. I had a fever (at first), body aches, heavy headed and run down etc. I also have discomfort in my lower abdomen.

Saw the GP and my urine test came back as positive for a UTI.

I’ve never had a UTI like this. Usually I have an incessant need to pee (not this time, I would’ve never guessed UTI) but the physical pain and discomfort is driving me up the walls.

I got an ultrasound done to rule out other possibilities (ie appendicitis, ovarian torsion etc).

Anyone have a UTI like this and have any tips on what helped you?

Cleaning tile stains (bathroom)

My shower times have this milky white staining. I think they might be natural stone perhaps.

Any tips how to get rid of the staining?

Help! How bad did I screw up plaster sanding?

I sanded down some plaster I had repaired and evidently went down a bit too much because you can see a bit of the angle trim.

I’m very short on time in that I have flooring people coming in less than 12 hours and painters the next day.

Am I screwed or will this not be an issue once painted?

Can the OC force renovations?

I have a relative who had their bathroom renovated probably 20+ years ago and their trades never put in a waste drain in the bathroom floor. At the time of the renovation, approval was given without any mention or requirement for a by-law.

Their strata has now asked them to reinstate the waste drain and from what I understand, it's not the easiest fix in that the whole floor would need to be re-tiled, and likely then some - probably a minimum of a few thousand to do.

Can this actually be forced on them to undertake the repair?

Developing strength pre-baby: gym or pilates?

Likely I will start TTC next year and I’m hearing from friends of mine with new babies that they’d wished they’d invested in their strength and fitness before welcoming baby – whether due to ab muscle separation, the weight of holding a baby in your arms for prolonged periods etc.

I don’t know that any one is ‘better’ than the other but would be keen to hear from you Mamas – what worked better for you both in terms of strength and ease of exercising once you had a baby between independent exercise at the gym or pilates classes?

Repairing damaged plaster?

We’re having our built in robe replaced and when a panel of wood from the old cabinetry was removed, it damaged the plasterboard wall as it had previously been glued down.

Am I right in my understanding that we fix this by sanding it down to smooth the surface / remove the remaining backing from the panel, then fix it up with some plaster and sand again before painting?

Or is there some better way or a step I’m missing?

Thanks!

Fix gap between wall and wardrobe frame?

We’re replacing our wardrobe due to water damage (amongst other repairs) but only the joinery as the frame and doors were suitable to reuse.

Now that the frame has been reinstalled, it’s not sitting flush against the wall.

What can we do to conceal the gap and make it less of an eyesore?

Do I say something? Feel like I was prioritised less as a long distance friend.

'Matt' and I have been friends since meeting at university but Matt relocated cities a few years back so our friendship is now long distance. We see each other maybe 1-2 times a year, sometimes less, so our friendship is predominantly telephone and message based.

He's been under a bit of stress lately and somewhat MIA. I've called a few times and tried to check in knowing he's got a bit on his plate, and it hasn't been total radio silence, but Matt himself has told me he's only really around in person at the moment.

I see on his social media that he's going out with friends and living what I know to be his usual lifestyle.

I don't know if I say anything.

On one hand I understand he's had a bit to deal with, but then it also feels unfair to me that I'm the one who he's not interacting with, not because anything happened between us, but rather, he'd rather hang out in person, and obviously we can't exactly go and catch up when we're long distance friends now.

Help with pickled onions?

I made balsamic pickled onions at the start of the month.

I followed this recipe except placed the jars in the fridge since I did not ‘can’ them with heat.

2 weeks later and they’ve barely changed colour.

What am I doing wrong?

Folding laundry racks instead of freestanding rack?

https://preview.redd.it/4hx1rhokkl7h1.jpg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=13c4e2e90adb209276e0f32b31fa04923ca1ec60

We currently dry our laundry on a freestanding clothes rack (like this) but are thinking to switch to foldable racks mounted on the walls.

I'm mindful people tend to use foldable racks more so for laundry rooms or to mount on caravans so not quite the swap for usual laundering at home.

Only downside I can think of is these racks have less hanging space so I'd need a few of them.

Before I go buying some and drilling into my concrete walls, has anyone done this and regretted it? Don't want to hate the idea afterwards and have a wall that needs patching up.

Foldable Drying Rack - Hills or Vendline?

Looking to get some foldable drying racks for our home.

Currently eyeing the Hills version since it's the widest (1.05m to the usual 1.00m) and has the most rods. Bonus it has integrated sock holders which is an extra upgrade with the others.

I'm pretty set on the Hills but the other options which are pretty on par is Vendline and The Clothesline Store.

Has anyone got any feedback on the Hills v Vendline drying racks? The one thing the Hills version loses out on is it has the lowest weight rating of the 3.

What finally got you your diagnosis?

I've suspected having costo for a while now as a larger busted lady but in the past my pain has come and go, such as in the evening while braless I'll feel aches that go by the next morning.

However, going on 11 days now, I've had pain in my chest that is gradually worsening. It's centralised down my sternum (slight spread across my breast bone) and originally was a dull ache but is a bit more pronounced now.

I went to the doctors and then at their recommendation to the emergency department. I've had 2 ECGs, blood tests and an x-ray and they think it's secondary to a viral illness I had around the time the chest pain started, albeit I wasn't really that unwell and it was very brief.

I was basically sent home from the ED being told to come back if the pain worsens but no indication when it'll go away.

I suspect it might be costo and am unsure at what point to investigate further.

Bed linen to go with wallpaper?

This is an AI mockup of our bedroom once we add wallpaper on the back wall plus a wall hanging to break it up.

I need to get some new linen but to avoid overdoing it I’m thinking something white that’s textured or patterned.

They’re only subtle differences but I can’t tell which looks best and completes the look without being too busy.

Thoughts?

  1. textured stripes
  2. satin stripes
  3. textured/satin pattern

Mount TV on steel stud or add timber stud?

(Deleted my prior post and reposting a more logical question)!

We have a 50” TV we want to mount on our wall. It’s plasterboard with steel studs.

Original contractor we had said we’d need a timber stud put in but would be very tricky in our space due to plumbing near the stud.

Is mounting on steel studs ok long term or are we better spending a bit more to open the wall and put a timber stud in? I’ve already had to cut the wall open for some other repairs anyway.

Lot owner refusing to allow works

My grandmother’s block of townhouses needed repairs to both common and lot property.

One of the lot owners is a chaos agent and has refused to allow works and done everything in his power to delay works. I wish I was exaggerating when saying this person would rather see his townhouse decay than allow works to go on.

It’s gotten to the point where after months of works, the builders have walked off the job.

Is there anything that can be done via NCAT to prevent this pest from disrupting any further?

Parental Leave: How did your budget change?

Hubby and I are thinking to start TTC. What is holding us back is making sure we have enough $ saved as I’d like 12 months off work.

I’m budgeting to save enough needed to reflect 12 months of living costs based on our current expenses. It does include discretionary things like going out to the movies or for dinner but we are pretty modest with those so it’s mostly just our usual expenses.

I’d be curious for those of you who have taken parental leave, did your budget change while on parental leave or did you spend the same amount and had it covered by work or savings?

Update: challenged my committee and got a desirable outcome

I posted the other day but panic deleted my post. I have a positive update to share so will re-tell this one!

Background:

I applied for approval for a 'double decker' storage cabinet to put at the rear of my 2nd car space (I have 2 car spaces in a tandem layout but only 1 car with no plans for a 2nd).

The committee denied the request because though ok in my circumstances, they didn't want to set a precedent since most other car spaces had an over-bonnet style storage cage instead.

A key fact is my car space layout is fairly unique. Most other car spaces are single space with people owning 1 or 2 side by side so the only storage option to fit a car into a space that's used is an over bonnet style.

Update:

I challenged the committee saying they did not withhold their consent reasonably because they (1) failed to consider my application on its own merits (and the unique circumstances) and (2) my proposal did not infringe any other lot owner's property or common property. I also found tribunal decisions that supported this position.

I requested the committee reconsider and proposed some conditions to address their concerns, such as that the car space housing the storage unit would no longer be used as a car space, and I would need to get rid of it if intending to use it as a car space again in future.

After a bit of to and fro and the committee seemingly trying to find excuses to throw at me, common sense prevailed and my request has been approved!
