We pay more for the auto to the station than the actual train journey?

I was looking at my recent train ticket to Pune and noticed this line at the bottom: "IR recovers only 57% of cost of travel on an average."

It made me realize how insanely cheap our train travel actually is. Look at my ticket in the image. The base fare for a 150 km journey was just ₹115 (total ₹133 with fees).

But to get to my nearest railway station—which is just 5 km away—the local autorickshaw charged me ₹110!

Think about it. A massive train network moving you across cities costs almost the same as a 10-minute auto ride.

Now, we all know the daily struggles of train travel. We’ve all dealt with dirty toilets, annoying delays, and heavily crowded coaches. It is completely natural to want better, cleaner, and more reliable journeys.

But running a massive railway infrastructure across the country costs a huge amount of money.

If the government is already absorbing heavy losses to keep travel accessible, funding those massive upgrades becomes a huge puzzle. What if, instead of keeping fares rock-bottom and settling for average facilities, we gradually pay a little bit more?

If we contribute a fair price, we can rightfully demand airport-like cleanliness, sparkling toilets, and strict punctuality. Our citizens and our hard-working railway staff both deserve that level of world-class comfort.

I’m definitely not saying we should make tickets unaffordable for families who rely on them. But for those of us who can afford it, wouldn't it be great to pay a small, reasonable premium if it enables a cleaner, faster, and better travel experience?

Why have ₹10 packs completely vanished from cities and quick-commerce?

On a recent rural road trip, I noticed ₹10 pocket-friendly packs everywhere—like 200ml Campa and Ras Rik bottles. They are incredibly convenient, yet completely missing from tier-1 and tier-2 cities.

It’s a broader trend. The ₹10 packs of Haldiram salted peanuts have vanished from urban kirana stores, and quick-commerce apps like Zepto, Blinkit, and BigBasket only stock larger, pricier sizes.

Even urban ₹10 experiments, like Bisleri Pop or Rev, frequently get pulled over corporate margin disputes.

Wildest of all? Reliance owns Campa, but you won't find these ₹10 bottles in urban Reliance Smart Bazaar hypermarkets.

This isn’t a city vs. rural debate, just a supply chain curiosity.

A few quick theories:

. High city rents force shopkeepers to prioritize higher-value inventory over low-margin items.

. Delivering a ₹10 item doesn't cover the cost of rider payouts and dark store operations.

. Brands push ultra-cheap SKUs to rural areas to fight local, unbranded competition while protecting high margins in cities.

It feels like city folks are trapped in a "Large Pack Conspiracy." If you want a cheap ₹10 drink, the universe expects you to drive 50km out onto a highway to get it! Anyone in FMCG or retail know the real operational secret behind this?

First time taking the Hazira-Ghogha ferry, and I’m never driving that route again.

Instead of dealing with hours of highway traffic and road fatigue, we just drove the car onto the ferry and chilled out on deck. The ship is modern, clean, and well-maintained.

It is easily one of the coolest infrastructure upgrades in Gujarat!

🎂 🎉 Happy 70th to Vividh Bharati !!! Before Spotify and YouTube, we had postcards, Hawa Mahal, and Jaimala

Today marks 70 years since the launch of Vividh Bharati on October 3, 1957. For decades, it truly lived up to its tagline—Desh Ki Sureeli Dhadkan —uniting a diverse country through a shared love for music and stories.

The service was conceptualized by legendary figures like poet Pandit Narendra Sharma and Girija Kumar Mathur. It was explicitly created as an entertainment service to counter the massive popularity of Radio Ceylon. At the time, the Indian government had banned film songs on its primary stations, accidentally driving everyone to tune in across the border. Vividh Bharati was brought in to win the airwaves back!

It gave us generation-defining programming like Hawa Mahal, Vishesh Jaimala (dedicated to the Armed Forces), Binaca Geetmala, Aaj Ke Fankar, and Chhayageet.

Long before internet viral trends, there was the ultimate fan-mail phenomenon. Places like Jhumri Telaiya (and Bhilaigarh) became legendary household names purely because of the sheer volume of postcard requests people sent in to hear their names read out on air.

Today, it houses the largest Hindi music library in the country and has successfully transitioned from short-wave radio to FM, DTH, and global streaming apps.

How carbon tariffs and 'climate funds' became a multi-billion dollar geopolitical extortion racket

Everyone talks about global climate cooperation, but the reality inside the recent BRICS summit was pure theater.

When called out on heavy emissions, developing manufacturing giants hit back with a bizarre logic: “You ruined the classroom yesterday, so it's my turn to trash it today.”

The underlying subtext of modern environmental policy has become incredibly cynical. It is no longer about saving the planet; it is an international shakedown where countries demand billions of dollars in "climate alms" just to keep their coal plants turned off.

I have written a three-minute read dissecting the absolute absurdity and hypocrisy of modern global climate negotiations.

The Q-Commerce Expansion: How hyper-local logistics are quietly rewriting India’s environmental packaging problem.

Online shopping and quick-commerce are rapidly expanding from mega-cities into Tier-B and Tier-C towns across India. Beyond the convenience of saving traffic and reliable quality, this massive logistical shift is quietly delivering an infrastructure-led environmental solution: fully functional, free compostable bioplastic bags.

It shatters the old urban dilemma of choosing between a flimsy paper bag and environmental guilt. Large-scale corporate supply chains are proving they can absorb the cost and scale green tech significantly faster than individual moral policing can.

I wrote a quick, 3-minute analysis on this shift in urban Indian consumer behavior. Read the full piece here:
