Memory Card Help

Okay this is going to be a long one. But your help is appreciated.

The issue is with a Lexar Professional 256 GB V90 SDXC Card. I was offloading footage from my camera, a Canon C80, and I went to eject the card when it was finished but by accident I ejected the subfolder that contains the footage, subfolder was titled "Reel_0008". Card was titled "CanonA_0008". Thought it was just an oops and ejected the primary folder of the card and then went and shot more footage on the card today. Went to offload that footage and found that the camera renamed the card "CanonA_0009" and the folder that contains the footage from today is called "Reel_0009". I can see the storage capacity of the card still reflects that the other footage is there, but it's not visible.

I've tried running Disk Utility (on a Mac) and doing first aid on both the card and the subsequent volume inside of the card "CanonA_0009" and the other folder won't come back. I've tried revealing hidden files, I've tried restarting the computer, I've tried renaming the card back to "CanonA_0008" and then ejecting it and plugging it back in and nothing has worked yet.

The footage from the first day is offloaded and on 2 separate drives, so I should be fine, but I just want to ensure that if something goes wrong with my computer before that project is done that I still have the original files.

It seems that the pathway to the files is what's broken, so if someone is smarter than me and knows how to fix that I would appreciate it!

Confused on State Farm Personal Property Coverage

Hello, had a sump pump failure in my basement during a recent storm. Got it remediated, contractor quoted rebuild and all that has been approved so I understand all that. The personal property part is what is confusing me and my adjuster is clearly swamped and hasn't been very helpful (I don't think intentionally).

We inventoried everything that got wet. Submitted it with photos and model numbers, ages, quality, etc. Total was just about $40k. State Farm issued a payment a few days ago for $24k and then told us "we are covered up to $40k total" and once we start submitting receipts for replacing the items we will get the remainder of the money.

This is the part that is really confusing to me and I want to make sure I am not misunderstanding or misusing the funds. What is the difference between the two payments and can someone please explain the process a little more clearly?

Thanks!

Corrugated Pipe v. PVC for Sump drainage

I know this isn't 100% landscaping related but it has to do with drainage so wondered if there was good overlap for you all's thoughts.

I live outside Chicago, we got slammed this week with rain. Sump pump failed because French drain backed up because water had nowhere to go. Sump ejects into a basin that I think is integrated into the french drain system and then runs to the drainage ditch out front of our home. Had to detach the connection from Sump to basin and use corrugated pipe to have it drain to somewhere else in the yard so the system could get water out of the basement. Now that part of the yard is soaked so I am wanting to temporarily/semi permanently reroute it to the drainage ditch. The sump comes out of the house about 3 feet above the ground, then the run to the ditch would be 100 feet or so. Wondering if corrugated pipe is overkill for this and if 1.5 inch PVC would be the better move as it's easier to maintain a downward pitch and thus will drain better and not have water stop in the middle of a very long run.

Our home has drainage problems in this area even before this so those issues will need to be fixed soon, which is why this fix is both temporary and possibly permanent. In the short term it will be above ground and just ensure that the same backup issue doesn't happen again and flood our basement again. But if it works well then when we address drainage issues I may just bury the line and make it permanent.

Red circles are two downspouts that are part of the drainage issue. Wondering if I can tie those into the line so those don't spit out right at the base of our house. Blue is sump pump and exterior basin. Pink is the run that I need to make with either the pipe or PVC.

This is a long post but I appreciate any insight. Been an unfortunate weekend.

Need help with Burning DVDs. Nothing illegal.

Hello, Not sure this is the right place to post this so if there's a better place to do this please let me know!

I am a videographer. And I have one project every year that I sell DVD's of it to parents (School play, don't ask lol). Every year without fail there are 2 or 3 people that come back and say the DVD doesn't work in their player. They try it in their home player, then they try it on their laptop and in their minivan and it doesn't work. I take it back and it plays on my computer just fine.

Is there an "end all be all" file or DVD format that will play on 99% of players. Age of the parent's player does seem to be a factor but the last person who had the issue said theirs is 3-4 years old. I currently compress the export file into .mp4, (ends up between 6-8 GB) and burn it onto DVD+R's. In the past I've tried DVD-R's, and DVD+R DL. And someone always has an issue. I offer and highly encourage flash drives instead but either a parent is old fashioned or a grandparent wants a copy, etc. So just trying to see if there's a way to solve this issue that happens every year or if I just tell people DVD's aren't an option going forward and they just have to live with it.

Thanks!

Hello All!

A couple of weeks ago I came downstairs to our laundry room to a fairly strong burning smell. Deduced pretty quickly it came from our dryer. Had never had the vent cleaned since moving in so had that professionally done, it was fairly full but not entirely blocked. Ran the dryer again and got the same smell, definitely from inside the dryer. Took to google and found I can remove the vent pipe in the back and shop vac inside as there is likely build up of lint in there too. Did so and the inside was surprisingly clean except for this dark substance on the floor.

Any thoughts on what it could be/if it's the cause of the smell? I did a test run of the dryer (empty load on high heat for 5 or so minutes) after finding this substance and didn't smell anything. But just wanted to get some second advice before running the dryer as normal again.

Thanks!

Hello! Considering upgrading my video set up from my R5 as there have been many great improvements since the creation of the R5 that I would love to utilize.

Debating between the C50 and the R6III. This would be almost exclusively for video work so I feel it's really coming down to IBIS (R6III) v. Lens IS (C50). I use the camera on a Ronin 4 pro almost all the time, tripods during interviews otherwise. And all of my lenses have stabilization.

Wondering if anyone has been in this similar situation and have thoughts on which way they went and if they are happy with it or not?

Definitely ready to pull the trigger as I have lots of video work coming in the next few months just can't find a good answer for this internal debate!
