MV Black Marlin to enter port of Hobart next week

This will be (one of) the largest ships to ever enter Tasmanian waters. I imagine it will be a massive spectacle. Heads up to all photographers, drone pilots* and ship enthusiasts!

It will happen in the harbour between Tranmere and Lower Sandy Bay.

It will be here to collect the Incat built fully electric ferry China Zorilla to deliver it to its owner in South America.

The ship will lower its entire deck below water level, the ferry will then manoeuvre itself above it and then the heavy lift ship will raise itself again. It should be here for a few days (Tuesday to Thursday is the schedule).

(*Do not fly over or near the ship obviously!)

[Edit: OK, not the biggest. They were originally planning a different ship but plans changed between when they said that and now!]

Thought: Allow marshals to complete the course and claim a run/walk credit

An idea to increase the number of people volunteering for marshal positions:

Allow the marshal to head out early, run/walk the course up until their marshal position, then once the tailwalker passes them, run/walk to the finish line, receive a token and scan for their 5k.

Their time would be irrelevant (not much faster than the tailwalker) so they're not going to set any records.

Obviously for some layouts (e.g. multi-lap courses) there is going to be some level of trust involved. It would be at the RD's discretion. To be honest, there may be some RDs allowing this now.

So long as the marshal is in position before the event starts and does not leave until the last participant has passed, it wouldn't affect anyone else at all, and would reduce pressure on finding volunteers.

Question for Medibank Private members in Australia

(For those in other countries - Medibank Private is a health insurer in Australia who sponsor parkrun)

MBP members get 500 points for attending parkrun each month - very cool! (wish I got it every week!) Points are redeemable for various health things (shoes, trackers, nutrition, etc)

I was looking in my points history, and as well as "parkrun visit" for 500 points in the first week of each month, I noticed a couple of extra ones - "parkrun boost" for an additional 500 points just after the usual one in October, and "parkrun bonus" on 30 December for 2500 extra points!

There's no further description with either of these, or on their website, or in the T&Cs. Just wondering if anyone else has received these and knows what they are for? Obviously if they're things I did unknowingly I'd like to repeat them!

My guess would be the 2500 might be for attending a parkrun in every month of the year, but no clue about the October one. My attendance has been completely consistent.

For any MBP members who didn't know about this, you link your account via the parkrun website here - https://www.parkrun.com/profile/medibank/
