Poor Kenzie

How does Kenzie's mom say she thinks Maddie's tap dance should have won over Kenzie's dance? Let me repeat... tap dance. How often does a *tap* dance win at comps?

How can a mother constantly glaze one kid and treat the other so poorly?

How does Kenzie still talk to her mother? My heart breaks for her.

To top if all off, Maddie truly isn't all that. She is given the winning dances. Proof here: Kenzie was given the winning dance, so she won.

Math???

I am changing my mind last minute on math and got to wondering... there was a math that keeps getting recommended that I'm told is similar to the old Saxxon Math (not that I'd know what that is, as we haven't used it), but is Christian-based. Does anyone remember what this math is called?

Also, how does one make math religious? I am highly perplexed by this. Are we algebraically solving for number of mangers? lol

ETA 1: While we attend church, we're not looking for a Christian-based math, so I'm wondering if we can overlook the faith portion of the curriculum. But I'm mostly perplexed how one can make something like math bible-based in the first place. Science I can see, but math?

ETA 2: I think it was Shormann Math that was recommended to me that's religious. How are they making math religious?

Curriculum recommendations for 7th/8th grades - Eek!

I keep flip-flopping on curriculum. Help!

He's a college-bound, high achieving rising 7th grader with an interest in STEM/med-tech who wants to be challenged.

He completed some 7th grade last year during 6th grade at public school. He intends to complete 7th and 8th grades this year, so resources for both would be helpful, but right now we need to make immediate decisions on 7th grade. Eeek!

MATH -- What would you suggest for a 7th grader who has completed 6th and part of 7th grade math in school (before homeschool), with an interest in STEM, and he loves math (so he wants something challenging)? I read an old thread and changed my mind again. lol

ENGLISH -- I think we're settling on EIW since they have the grading option, however, when I spoke with them, she said they don't do spelling, so when they mark up documents, what are they marking up, just punctuation and grammar? He completed Advanced English 6 in school with straight A's, but the school allowed autocorrect (what the heck, right?!!), so his writing has regressed since 5th grade when he last had a teacher marking up his work. So we need to do damage control, IMO, in addition to 7th grade English. We need extra help here as I'm a math person, so English is not my strength.

SCIENCE -- Suggestions for a free, low-text option for Science 7 (bio)? We were looking at the Stanford free option, but it doesn't appear to be a full school year worth of material.

HISTORY -- Any suggestions for History 7?

HEALTH -- ??

TECHNOLOGY -- He needs more help with Python. Are there any free/low-cost resources? He's already done Coddy and a few others.

Thank you in advance for the advice from more experienced parents.

Ceiling camera?

Does anyone know of a brand of security cameras that are circular and hang pretty flush to the ceiling with a frosted white cover? I ask because we're trying to determine the device in the ceiling which we're pretty confident is a camera, but can't locate one online. TYIA

Bunkbed Safety Inspectors

These girls came to my door offering bunk bed inspections. They said since they're twins, they're equally calibrated and, therefore, can detect any irregularities from one level of a bunkbed to another. Reluctantly I let them in and agreed to pay them half up front but half upon completion. As they're working, I proceed to finish the dishes, only to come back and find that BOTH sisters were completely asleep on the bunk bed. They only woke when I snapped this photo to report them to their supervisor. I won't be using this company again. Unreliable. 2/5 stars

To the guy who told us to buy these...

My son and I were at the local grocery store looking for my son's favorite pretzel. Unable to find it, the guy standing next to my son says, "try these, they're the best."

My son hates them, I have bought a bag every week since. You, sir, are a drug dealer and should be reported.

Any kids born at UCSD also with wrong birthday on birth certificate?

I met someone who also used to live in San Diego who delivered at UCSD and, just like my child, their birth certificate had the wrong date because the birth wasn't recorded when it happened. Has anyone else experienced this?
