My dog ate Radigan 😢

The book is one of my favorites and so is the cover art. I have been to the area in the story several times and it’s exactly as Louis L’Amour describes. This book was printed in 1977. It only cost $1.50. It’s just another of my favorites that will be taped back together.

Celestial Planisphere, Ravensburger, 1000 pieces

I love this puzzle. It wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. I don’t usually sort but I did on this. Maybe that’s why it wasn’t so challenging. But it was really fun. And it glows in the dark!

Downsizing to a smaller house Part 2, thanks for your help

Thanks to everyone who responded and gave suggestions to my previous post. Most people said to let the books go. I took it to heart and purged over half. What I have left will fit easily on one bookshelf with room left over. I am keeping the DVDs because there is room for them in the new place and yes I really do watch them. I’m going to go through them and be brutal about letting some go though. The thrift store truck just left with the furniture, books, craft stuff, clothes and lots of miscellaneous stuff that had to go. I’m sure as I’m packing to move that I will come across more things to let go of. It really feels good to let stuff go. Others can now use them, they aren’t in a landfill and all sale proceeds go to the local Animal Humane. Today was a good day. Thanks again fellow Redditors for all the encouragement. 👍🏻❤️

Here’s the link to the original post if anyone is interested.

Downsizing to a smaller house

I (67F) have lived in my 2 story townhouse for 37 years. I now have arthritis in both knees and the stairs have become very difficult. I put an offer on a one story townhouse in my community and they accepted it yesterday. Yay! I’m going from 1300 sf to just over 700 sf. So almost half the size of my current home. I’m faced with letting go of half of my possessions. Most of my craft stuff will go. But that’s ok. Arthritis prevents me from doing much crocheting and I don’t sew anywhere near as much as I used too. I have a good sized DVD collection that I want to keep. My sister suggested that I get rid of the cases and put the discs in storage sleeves. Then there’s my books. I have an emotional attachment to them and I’m finding it difficult to let go. There’s a storage shed in the back yard. Should I put my books in plastic bins and store them in the shed? I live in a very hot/dry climate. Will the books get damaged stored this way? I’ve already given some furniture away to family members and a few more pieces are ready to go. Some will get donated next week. We close in 30 days so I’ll be moving soon after that. Then comes the work of preparing my house for sale. I haven’t been this stressed out in years. Any suggestions for making this undertaking easier?

Edit: Everyone has great ideas and suggestions. Thank you all for sharing.

OK I’m listening. Most of you are saying to let the books go. I just did a fast purge and came up with four groups. 1) keep. 2) donate. 3) sell to a local used book shop (or maybe just donate) 4) sell on eBay. The keep pile is about half of everything I have. It will fit on one bookshelf with some room to spare. I will probably pare it down some more and as I read/reread them, I’ll donate as I go.

I just talked with my niece and she and her husband want some antiques that were my mom’s. I’ve gotten rid of all the furniture I don’t want/need. What I have left will fit comfortably into the new place. I downsized my clothes, shoes etc. years ago when I retired. I just have jeans, tops, a couple of jackets and a few pairs of shoes and one purse. I did a kitchen purge years ago so that is done too. I’ve even purged most of my garden stuff. The hardest part is my books and DVDs. The storage shed in the back yard is well built. I inspected it and didn’t see any signs of rodent activity. I’m going to put some things in there until I can get everything organized and will probably have some stuff to donate still.

Animal Humane thrift store is coming to pick up the furniture donations and everything else including the books on Tuesday.

Great Smokey Mountains National Park, Ceaco-National Parks, 750 pieces

This is from a multi-puzzle box. There are eight puzzles of different sizes. This puzzle was really fun. The quality was good too.

Route 66, Kodak, 1000 pieces

Lots of fun. Good quality with no missing pieces, no bent or peeling pieces. Mostly easy except for the stars.

Today is Jazzy’s adoption day!

I adopted my angel five years ago today. The first picture is what she looked like at the pound. She was picked up as a stray. She was dirty, matted and covered in goat heads. I took her to the groomer immediately. Second pic is first day home and the rest are jazzy through the years.

Dogs ands Flowers, Galison, 500 pieces

Super easy but fun. This has been in my stash for a couple of years. It’s time to get it done and pass it on.
