How do you deal with awkwardness as an immigrant?

As a first gen immigrant , I was pretty much bullied through high school for saying/ doing the wrong things socially. Everyday, I felt more alone and isolated to a point that when I tried to be social, it just got more awkward. I got to a point that I would just not even speak to anyone anymore.

Now as an adult that in the workforce, I still find myself battling these same issues. It’s so hard for me to connect with people. I feel like I should do the most to be relatable which back fires and comes off as more awkward.

I’m so over it and the only people I can really talk to about this is my family. Is this something I need therapy for?

Work in B/D as POC

Hey all,

I wanted to share my experience to get some perspective. I joined a broker dealer about 3 years ago as an advisor. I am one of the few POCs in the complex. Ever since I joined, I felt a bit out of place.

There has been some comments made by a few colleagues that all I could say is that they would never made those comments if I wasn’t POC.

Context matters and for the sake of keeping this post short, I digress.

Ever since then, I’ve been overthinking about myself, ethnicity and it’s taking a toll on my self-esteem.

As we all know, HR or management won’t do much. If anything, would create more animosity

I’m not here to loathe but I’m really thinking about a change because no one should feel this way. However, I enjoy the role itself, there are some nice and helpful people at work and the comp is great.

I guess I’m here to ask is what exactly do I need to assess prior to making a rational decision ?

Sings a client will likely fire you prematurely

I’m working with a couple and we’ve gone through 2 rounds of discovery, our offerings, fees, and etc.

They are still reaching out to me that they want more information even though earlier today they said they are ready to move forward. Most of their additional questions still revolve around the fees. We’ve been fully transparent about the process and all the fees involved..

Based on my experience, I feel that they’ll either fire us earlier than expected or will nickel and dime the entirety of the process. What are your thoughts?

Mouse in the car!

Found a mouse in my car yesterday and after I cleaned the car, noticed it chew this side of my passenger window.

My question is…how!?? How common is this? Never in my life had this happened

Pantry room and garage roof leaking

New built home. Owned 1.5 years. Did laundry today and this is what I see! Laundry room is on third floor, pantry is on second level and underneath is garage. Roof of pantry and garage is leaking. Is this my laundry’s fault or the home’s plumbing?

First two pics are the pantry roof and last 2 is garage

Sophia Transfer

I am currently in the processing of taking a single course and transferring some old credits to WGU. I also hear I can transfer from Sophia but I am completely out of the loop on it so I had a few questions:

Can I start WGU and take Sophia at the same time and transfer credits while enrolled in WGU? If so, in how many cadences?

Where exactly do I go to cross reference the course on Sophia to the specific courses eligible for my major?

And lastly, why Sophia? Is it cheaper or easier to pass classes? No proctor exam?

Two years in the industry and still have imposter syndrome

I’m doing well in my role, exceeding my annual goals, yet still nervous around my senior colleagues and some clients. Maybe I’m reading too much into this but at times I believe it impacts my relationships with peers and clients.

For context, I’m not a CFP yet and almost always assume peers know more than I do or that the clients can see right through me.

Does this ever go away?

L theanine Zombie like state?

Anyone else feels like a zombie for at least the first few hours of taking it? I feel kind of the same way when I take magnesium but I usually take that at night and fall asleep like a baby.

I only take 100 mg of L theanine with coffee from NOW supplements

B/D Prospects

Work at a large BD and every now and then I come across clients that we do a plan and they agree they could benefit from our services and then poof. Gone.

How do you re-engage these clients or follow up in a way that’s efficient but doesn’t seem like you are bothered by the situation?

I recently messed up during a conference call and froze and ever since then, one of my co workers now says “bud” whenever we wrap up a conversation. The tone seems friendly but I can’t tell if they’re being condescending or pity me that I wasn’t feeling confident in the meeting.

For context, we’re around the same age.

What do you ya’ll think ?

I’ve seen so many opening for WF and JPM recently and I just can’t think of how those positions will last where they charge 100 bps, barely any planing and want to sell clients annuities where boutique and discount brokerage firms exist.

Any thoughts ?

Male in 30’s. I noticed myself to be much more manlier, confident, assertive and overall a better man when my dad comes to visit me.

When he’s gone, I feel the brain fog, unmotivated, anxious and unworthy almost.

Is this some sort of trauma ? I was way more confident and sure of myself in my 20’s but somehow it’s switched and I hate it . Any advice?
