This is a great time to mention that this sub is now without moderation... the last remaining unbanned moderator u/CoolOnAir has been banned (several weeks ago).
Someone should step up and claim the sub for moderation on r/redditrequest, and there we can have a good debate on the history of the sub and the direction we would like it to take.
Bella is a stray that wandered into our lives on Monday. She went from being a scared stray to a loving and loved member of our 3 cat (including Gavin!), 2 kid home.
We took her to our vet to be scanned and we have reached out to the owners by phone and email to reclaim her but so far nobody has responded.
Already we are ready to make her a part of our family if she is not claimed. Her version of 3/3/3 acclimation plan is 3 minutes, 3 hours, 3 days. 🤣
Unprompted last night and just having met our twin 8-year-olds earlier in the day, Bella decided she wanted to sleep at the foot of our daughter's bed where she stayed until 3:00 a.m.! We are already so comfortable with her presence in our house that we had no concern at all with it.
This beautiful pup Bella showed up at my fiance's place of work, lost and scared, and she sat under her desk all day with her tail between her legs before coming home two days ago. We took her to our vet and determined she is chipped, but so far there has been no response from her registered owners.
Here she is two days later enjoying rough and tumble with Rosie. So far she has been absolutely perfect in our home with Rosie, with our three cats, and now with our two 8-year-olds. If these owners don't reclaim her, we will definitely grow our pack by one!
Yet another stray dog has wandered into our lives, this time she showed up at my fiance's work, and she kept her there until time to come home whereupon we took her to the vet and found she was chipped, her name is Bella and she's a three year old pitty mix. The phone number is disconnected and we've sent an email to the registered owner in the hopes they will call us back.
As we were doing our best to keep them separated, Gavin defeated the cat door and came out to meet Bella and introduce himself! Not a care in the world! I think he's half dog.
We bought this bowl to always have fruit on the dining table, turns out it only holds one orange.
Did it choke? Bought and potted at the end of April. We were surprised it produced right away.
So I added sparkolloid 5 days ago, and I've seen a very dramatic increase in the clarity, but I have this cloud of whitish haze (over an inch deep) at the bottom that does not seem to be compressing down. There is a definite line below that with dead yeast. Will this reduce height with more time? This is a 1gal carboy, so I would hate to leave that much behind.
This is a white mulberry wine.
A lovely family that had recently lost their GSD has stepped up and adopted Leo. I was there to see him go, and am happy top report his hair is growing back FAST!
There was another couple that was also there to adopt Leo first, but they gave the grieving family first option and they wanted him and adopted him, so thank you to you too for also stepping up to save this great dog!
So I've been harvesting fruit from four trees in public park near us, and harvested 25 pounds of fruit which is currently in second fermentation for wine! Three of the trees are now completely bare of fruit, but this particular tree seems to have a large amount of immature fruit on branches that I have already harvested. I see that a second harvest is possible on new growth, but that doesn't seem to be the case for this tree. Climate is 9c
Are there certain species that produce two rounds of fruit on old growth?
A little over a month ago my fiancee was leaving to go to work and as she was about to get in her car she noticed this big dog walking up to her. She opened the car door as a potential escape route and he squeezed past her and jumped in! She had to leave, so I took over his care.
He clearly had a skin issue and was pretty bald on his lower half... I immediately named him Leo. He was quite fearful, tail down, looking around, but he seemed to relax as soon as his body was touching my legs. We spent the morning together including a long walk while I looked for options to care for him.
We have a dog of our own and three cats and 2 kids, so I did not have the option to bring him into the home, and in the end I did have to take him to Bradshaw for his safe keeping. He was great in the car and definitely seemed to remember this activity.
Fast forward a month, and despite having a positive interaction report at the shelter he has now been scheduled for euthanasia on 5/27. Due to the crowding and his need to medicated bathing and a dental cleaning, he is bottom of the list and the scheduled to die on Wednesday. I am gutted that this is now his future. He was chipped, but I guess his owners did not want him any more. With no diagnosis on his skin condition, it's likely he licked all the fur off he could reach as a stress response.
If you are looking for a sweet dog that needs a 2nd chance at life, please consider visiting Leo this weekend (the shelter gave him the name I picked for him).
If you read this and are a registered dog rescue, please contact me here and I will donate to cover all Leo's medical needs for 6 months and his feed.
If he is not adopted, I will have to go and adopt him Wednesday despite the concerns for the cats, but I hope someone will see him and take him first.

My dad (RIP) used to make all kinds of wild berry wine and jams, and as I age I find myself doing many of the things he did. 3 years ago I discovered a mulberry tree that I could harvest and made nearly 5 lb of jam. This year I've decided to do wine I managed to harvest 10 lb of red and 10 lb of White from our local park. Just got the primary ferment going on the second batch, the reds, and everything is looking good so far. White will be around 11% ABV, and the red may be as high as 14%. Edit: Oops, recipe is mulberries, acid blend, sugar and red star yeast, nutrient and pectic
Gavin and Rosie are always entertaining as we drink our morning coffee!
Got rid of the shower, 42" bathtub and wasted-space box between. Added privacy walls so the toilet is not visible from the window. Added in-floor heating, receptacle for bidet, ceiling spot, extractor fan and sloped floor to accommodate curbless shower with drain flange on slab. Barn door replaced inswing door that limited bathtub access when open, and standing in front of right sink perilous with the door closed. The countertop slab, bench cap and window sill were fabricated by a stone shop, all else was DIY.
My dear fiancee waited a whole year since we moved into the house for her Master Bath to be completed, and I am glad I can check that off.
Got rid of the huge 42" tub, the unnecessary tub box and the corroded shower enclosure and in-swing door. Added the walls so you have privacy on the toilet from the window and from the door. First time doing Kerdi.
I took guidance from the sub on how to work with the variation in length on the mosaics, came up with a great method which worked out great for my horizontal grout lines.

In-floor heating, wash and dry bidet, curbless walk-in and a soaking tub. She is thrilled.

Edit: someone commented I should have taken the tile to the ceiling, then deleted it. To you I say, fuck! I absolutely should have! 🤫
Didn't have enough pieces of jolly to finish, so have the last 7 sticks to set.
For setting them, should I pack with thinset and pick it out of the grout lines, or use a mastic? A couple that I had set I later removed at the 4 hour mark after I noticed they weren't fully bonded.
Change of plane says caulk rather than grout, but not for jolly? Should these be grouted? Mapei Ultracolor Plus FA.
