My current small but curated collection.

I apologize if they're poor quality, and if the protective sleeves get in the way of the spines. Just ask if you can't make something out. Perhaps one day I'll take pictures of the front covers but I'm stuck for time right now.

Can't seem to progress past liberating drezen, always making new characters.

I'm sure I'm not alone, but does anyone else seemingly have a point where they just can't progress any further for various reasons?

I've done a couple of random runs, liberated drezen and then I'm like "welp, new character time". My latest run I decided to go with something traditional and just use oracle/angel, figured this would be the one I would stick with.... But nope. Now I wanna see everything that happened prior but from an evil perspective (I don't tend to play evil characters) so I'm back to the character creator. It's like no matter what I do, I can't stick with anything 😂

Do you run multiple characters at any given time or are you a "stick with one and see everything you can" type person?

My Tull album rankings

I've been going through each CD I own and giving them marks out of ten. The first ones I started with are my Jethro Tull albums.

These are just the ones I own, I've heard the rest on streaming platforms but they're not part of the scope.

I drop my youngest daughter at school, come back, make a coffee, and listen to one album uninterrupted, then give it a mark based on how much I enjoyed the experience.

With Tull it's pretty damn difficult and there's a lot of context to be had, for example just because an album has lower marks doesn't necessarily mean I think it's crap, but by comparison to the previous album or the overall catalogue, or what it means to me, it may receive higher or lower scores.

There could be a couple of "hot takes" here also, so please remember this is a subjective list meant for discussion. Anyway, on with the show:

Stand up 8/10

Benefit 7/10

Aqualung 10/10

Thick as a brick 9.5/10

A passion play 9/10

War child 8.5/10

Minstrel in the gallery 10/10

Songs from the wood 9/10

Heavy horses 10/10

Stormwatch 9.5/10

A 7/10

Broadsword and the beast 9.5

Crest of a knave 6/10

Rock island 7/10

J tull dot com 5/10

Rokflote 6.5/10

Curious ruminant 7/10

So From top to bottom:

Minstrel

Heavy horses

Aqualung

TAAB

Stormwatch

Broadsword

Passion play

Songs from the wood

War child

Stand up

Benefit

A

Curious ruminant

Rock island

Rokflote

Crest

Jtull.com

All in all this list surprised me too, because Warchild is actually one of my favourites and I truly feel that it and passion play should've been re-released as one cohesive unit. I LOVE TAAB and thought it would take the top spot tbh but I found in parts it could get really repetitive and it brought the ranking down just a smidge.

Storm watch is one of my favourites overall even though it's quite mid on my ranking, it's the album that got me into Tull, and I feel it has some amazing highs but is let down a little by a lack of consistency as a whole product.

I'm quite picky about my music, so even jtull.com getting a 5/10 means I'd still rather listen to it than a vast majority of other music.

I do own bursting out, which I really love, some of the songs on there really get an extra level of energy added to them and it's great, but I don't tend to enjoy putting live albums in rankings.

I also have nightcap and several booksets/standalone SW remix albums but chose not to include any associated/bonus tracks whatsoever. This is based purely on the flow of the original track listings.

Thanks for reading my wall of nonsense 😂

Could anyone help me understand some lore?

Anyone know the lore reason horses don't get dizzy in Pathfinder? Are they born with an innate resistance to spinning around on the spot in random parts of houses and dungeons or is it a skill they develop? Is there a tactical purpose to this? Do they feel it confuses enemies?

Cheers

Looking for recommendations based on my tastes

Hi all, I'm middle aged and always had a soft spot for a bit of prog but never got into it until recently. However, I'm quite picky with my tastes, and can safely say I prefer a more "pop" orientated prog styling over the more "jazz" style that is commonly associated with the genre.

Now, when I say "pop" I don't mean "owner of a lonely heart" or "invisible touch" or whatever, I mean more riff based, more grooves and straight drumming, more "solid". I like drums that play a beat rather than almost constant fills, I like melody rather than noodling, and I enjoy a more "folk" sensibility (you'll see in a sec). These are the albums I know and love:

Genesis - SEBTP

Jethro Tull - .... All Tull 😂

Nektar - ATITO, RTF

VDGG - pawn hearts

Cardiacs - .... All cardiacs

I do enjoy others, but these were just a quick mention. I'm also not overly keen on anything modern, I spent years listening to metal/rock and I'm fed up of the loudness wars, overly compressed drums, modern guitar tones and whatnot.

What do you reckon I'd enjoy based on these albums?

Cheers

Could do with help on how to approach deadfire

I'm just wondering what to do to get the most enjoyment out of the game. Should I make a char with a specific faction in mind (or none at all) and ONLY do quests for that faction? Should I do everything I can, or really limit myself based on choices? Like there's an island you have to visit (was it tikawara?) and you're greeted by a VTC guy (right?). If I was really leaning Into the principi side of things could I just walk away from him and not bother with what he has to say?

What I struggle with (perhaps my brain is too smooth) is the length of the main quest, and feeling railroaded into it. Is it better to approach the game like a sandbox and put the MQ off until much later? Even after the dlcs? I haven't got a clue.

Bruce dropping his influences into his work, can you think of more?

So, here's a couple of times Bruce has referenced his influences in various songs and things:

The album "Accident of birth" comes from the lyrics to Jethro tull's "wind up". The lyrics are "How do you dare tell me that I'm my Father's son? When that was just an accident of birth.

While introducing the clairvoyant on the somewhere back in time tour (I think) he says: "I prophesy disaster, and then I count the cost" which are lyrics to Van der graaf generator's "a plague of lighthouse keepers"

On his song "solar confinement" from skunkworks, he mentions "H to HE" which is the first VDGG album.

Can anyone think of others? I'm sure there will be more.

I'm playing a male character, and it seems I can't be friendly to the other males without it becoming sexually tense or being suddenly put in a situation where we would kiss?

I just went to chat with gale, and I wanted to spend some friendly time with him (as opposed to seemingly being real mean to him), yet that platonic friendliness got real close to kissing. I don't want that for my char (in fact, I don't particularly want any romance, it's not my interest) but it felt like my choices were really severe in nature, either tell gale I'm not interested in his nonsense, or get gay. Can't I just be friendly with these guys?

I'm used to bg1 and 2 where certain races couldn't be certain classes, but in bg3 I can be a half orc bard? Cool!

I'd like him to be a lovable brute really, a bit artsy but when all else fails just smash shit up.

Could I push strength and bring dex down? Also which is more important for a bard in 5e, int or cha?

Cheers

So uhhhh my last post talked about how much I've fallen in love with the game, and while that's true for the most part I'm also already incredibly fatigued from the crusade. I was thinking it would be similar to act 2 throughout and that was fair enough but I'm constantly being beaten over the head by new stuff. There's the main story, side quests, timed stuff, crusade movement and fighting and resource management, building, decrees, outposts, people wanting to talk to me about seemingly inconsequential stuff, and so on.

Perhaps it's my room temperature IQ, or perhaps owlcat didn't do a good job of explaining... Maybe it's both? I dunno, but all I know is; if it gets worse than act 3 then I don't think I'll be able to cope.

I would put it on auto mode, but I've heard that even with auto mode it can still be pretty annoying to deal with.

Martin Barre's comments on the subject were "It's important that people realize there will never be a Jethro Tull again. There will be two solo bands, the Ian Anderson Band and the Martin Barre Band, and long may they exist, and long may they enjoy playing music."

If this is correct then really the last Tull record should be the Christmas album (or j Tull dot com) but it really depends on who you think is the most integral part of Tull right? Is it solely Anderson? Mostly Barre? A mix of both? Was Palmer more important? And so on.

Are the last 3 records worthy of carrying the Tull name as far as you're concerned, or do you feel they should've been released under a different moniker?

Ultimately, what creates the Jethro Tull sound to you? Because they've been playing "straighter" ever since Broadsword and many people consider that to be classic Tull right? So it can't be purely based on style.

For me personally I feel the change begins with A, but don't get me wrong, I do enjoy that album and a lot of the subsequent releases (with broadsword being in my top 5), but it feels like A started the whole "Ian Anderson's Jethro Tull" due to it starting as a solo album for him.

It's not an important discussion or anything, but what are your thoughts?

This game man, it's taken me so many attempts to get I to it but now I have I'm completely enamoured! I'm not very far but I can already see how other playthroughs will pan out. However....

Anyone else find it a little ironic that a game called "Pathfinder" has some of the worst pathfinding to ever exist?! 😂 It's SO SO terrible I swear. From characters spinning on the spot, running off to a different section of the map, walking into whatever trap they can see, going to a different room when fighting, walking off when the party is trying to exit/enter a building, and so on. It's hilariously bad.

Do owlcat tend to not fix these kinds of things? I'm on ps5 so I don't know if there are mods for it, but it would be nice if there was an update.

Overall though, so far at least, excellent game
