Just heard KOD for the first time

Been listening to Cole since come up. He Been my favorite rapper since Warm Up

I just heard KOD for the first time. I lowkeye refused to listen because I had a disdain for SoundCloud type rap and songs with chanting hooks like “count it up count it up”. I heard motivate and the count it up song and checked out. Said it was bad album and overrated AF. Especially with people saying it’s his best album

But I GET IT NOW. It took me a minute to catch on while listening, but I see why he made the album sound that way. He stuck to the subject at hand and executed damn near flawlessly for what he was trying to do. It’s so much more I’m missing. Like the lil baby talking on the interludes and stuff. And how upbringing can cause drug habits or lead to bad decision in general. He was reaching out to people it seems that don’t typically like J. Cole type music and it’s beautiful that he did that. If that’s actually what he did. I’m going back today to see what I missed. It feels like a brand new J. Cole album

Quick Stop Hidden Gem

Just ran across this video of J Cole presenting Nas with an impact award

If you go to “05:55” second mark, J Cole tells a story about how when he was at The Quick Stop Gas Station, his friend convinced him to listen to Nas for the first time. He then went to get “it was written” and “I am”
